Corwin Morningsword |

Corwin nods. "Caltrops, assuming they're visible to the enemy, can also be used to funnel opponents onto a desired path. We might consider using them that way depending on where we and the residents hide. Khal, what are our magical options to conceal our presence?

Khal Ridder |

"A simple illusion should provide something to hide behind or inside, but other then that our options are limited. We could also place caltrops and hide them - or dig pit-traps if we had the time." Khal offers.

Corwin Morningsword |

"Perhaps we could have the laborers dig a pit overnight and then you could hide it with your illusion in the morn? With luck one or two of the bandits may fall into the pit and then we attack."

Alluria Shadowtouched |

"Place the tripwire in plain view in front of the pit, will cause them to jump over and into the pit. But do we have enough time to dig one?

Riku Silverwing |

"We could also make it so that when everyone of them is inside, we bar their escape? " she adds her voice to the discussion. The plan so far was sound. A little extra insurance to prevent them getting away would be welcomed.

Alluria Shadowtouched |

"Then we should hide along the wall near the gate to close it or attack the bandits once they are roughly in the middel of the open area. I say we just attack them once all are in, surround them and you on the wall/roof to make pincusions of any stragglers should surfice to win the day." Alluria says in responds to Riku's suggestion

Khal Ridder |

"I'd be hesitant to employ tripwire - they'll know something is up. But on the other hand, once they see it it might already be too late ... Baring the gate is an excellent idea, if we can. Hmm. We could just dig a very shallow pit and line it with sharp sticks or caltrops to save time?"

Alluria Shadowtouched |

"Might be true then perhaps we should just place some caltrops in a shallow pit, maybe hear Oleg if he has some kind of animal traps to hide in there aswell?"

Sorry everyone, my week : Monday, break fix all day. Tuesday, Sick, missed work. Wednesday, Sick, missed work. Thursday, Sick, Worked over time to make up for earlier. Friday, worked 2/3rds of a day, got off early due to holiday, went to sleep. Saturday, spent day car shopping with wife for her new truck. Sunday, slept in and rested, went shopping got groceries, took a 4 hour nap.
The next morning, at dawn, four horsemen appear at the edge of the forest, and begin riding out to the Fort, following a lazy winding path that seems relatively random, no straight line. They lead a pair of mules with empty pack saddles.
As the four wind their way up to the old Fort, Alluria realizes she may have made a fatal mistake. If they ride through the fort doors, they will be sitting high enough to see her as they enter, as their heads will be above the level of the walkway!
Alluria has 3 rounds before they reach the gate, by the time she realizes this. She'll need to make stealth checks if she wants to move and not be seen.

Alluria Shadowtouched |

I'll make the stealth check but I did write I was under thewalkway ready to close the door behind them but I'll work with this for some more fun.
Alluria curses herself for thinking she had time to take a peak from the walkway to see if anyone was approaching. As she realize she is out of her position she quickly hides by jumping down and get in behind the open gate. "Riku they are coming get low untill they are inside the fort. she says as she jumps down.
stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Riku Silverwing |

Riku nods and goes flat on her back. Waiting and staying very still. Holding her breath

With the delay we had from my work and being sick, I wanted to make sure people were here before I continued. :) If Corwin doesn't post by tonight I'll move forward and ping him offline.

mdt |

Should I assume you moved the wagon, even though nobody covered it up?
The bandits ride up, with the two leader's stopping inside the gate, and the next two in the gateway itself. Behind them, two mules on lead ropes stop and begin to chew at the grass by the side of the trail.
The bandit on the right watches two of the followers scurry into the main office, and stands up in his saddle. "Yo! Oleg, ye olde goat! Get your ass out here and load up our asses!"
The other bandits snigger at the joke.

Stealth checks folks if you're hiding somewhere other than the other side of a building

Corwin Morningsword |

Yep. I would have moved it if it were a movable object and not part of the background. Also, Oleg and his wife's instructions are to remain inside the building.

Alluria Shadowtouched |

Alluria is still behind the gate door with her weapon ready. stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

The guy that spoke suddenly looks up and to the right, and the crossbow he'd been negligently holding is brought up to bear on Riku! To the Tengu, the bolt head suddenly looks impossibly sharp and huge and as if it's pointed at her nostril! "Hey! YOU! Get down off that roof! Very slowly!"
Sorry, even with the cover bonuses, he noticed Riku after that roll
Covered: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
If combat starts, there won't really be a surprise round now, since he saw Riku and his shout warned his friends. Benefit, full round actions first round of combat. Downside, no one is flat footed.

Riku Silverwing |

oh well
She bobs her head up
"Cant a girl catch some sun in this area...?" she caws at them

One of the riders (upper left) can draw a line to the 5ft square Corwin is in. I need a stealth check. You get cover bonuses though.
"Damn, that's the biggest crow I ever saw..." The woman in the back says, shaking her head.
The man with the crossbow shakes his head. "Nah, I seen one bigger. And no, you can't get sun around here. Now get down or we'll see if oversized crow tastes like regular crow if you spitroast it." His eyes do not leave Riku.
"I don't like this, first those strangers were at the table and ran when we came in like scalded dogs. Then this bird thing on the roof. And that damn Oleg isn't out here glaring and muttering at us like he usually is. This smells..." The man next to the man with the crossbow says, spitting on the ground.

Riku Silverwing |

She gets up and shows them her hands, leaving her bow on the ground, out of sight
"See? Here I am. Please dont hurt me"
She looks around, wanting to see who is leading the lot

Riku wanted to know who was the leader, that requires a SM check
Riku isn't sure, the one with the crossbow pointed at her seems to be nominally in charge, but it feels like a fluid type situation. Either there's no set leader, or there's internal conflict over who should be the leader, or the leader isn't secure in his position, Riku isn't sure which.

Riku Silverwing |

"Okay okay. Im coming down. But to who do I need to surrender? " she replies
-Posted with Wayfinder

mdt |

They did say that every time it's been a different group
Nobody else has done anything, so my assumption is you're not interrupting Riku
The man with the crossbow laughs. "You can surrender to anyone you want, don't nobody care..."
The woman laughs. "Or my horse!"
The man next to the crossbowman snorts. "Hell, surrender to the damn mules, I'd pay to see that."

They would have, if the hirelings hadn't run off yelling in a panic, and if they hadn't noticed Riku. Both of those together got them nervous, and they're being cautious, so they stopped moving forward. Granted it was mostly spotting Riku. 80/20

Khal Ridder |

Aye. Things are dicey - but they *need* to go inside after all if they want to pillage, loot or steal :P
Additionally I noticed the mules appears to be at the rear which puts Riku in a good spot to flank or a bad spot to be trampled!

Corwin Morningsword |

After hearing Riku jump off the roof, Corwin holds up his palm to the guards beside him indicating that they should stay put for the moment.
With sword and shield in hand, Corwin strides into view and stops on the opposite side of the magically-concealed pit from the bandits.
"Enough. You will no longer torment the Tengu or the residents of this post. Step forward and face me if you dare, but you will take nothing from this place."

Riku Silverwing |

sorry for long delay. Long day. And now this day also started early

No surprise round, as nobody is really surprised. Moving this to combat mode because I suspect combat will break out suddenly. Corwin's action occurs on this round.
Flat footedness against enemies can still be achieved with a stealth roll before an attack is made, if you are fully hidden
Init, Alluria: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Init, Corwin: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Init, Riku: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Init, Bandits: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Since Corwin initiates by stepping out and making a statement on 2, everyone has an action that goes off simultaneously, but in order... So, need to know what Alluria and Riku and Khal do when Corwin shouts. Remember, Khal and Alluria can't see what's going on, and thus have no way of knowing what the situation is beyond what they can hear, and there has not yet been a signal from Corwin to attack. For Riku, remember, the crossbow guy has been keeping his crossbow aimed at Riku's head the entire time.

Crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
A crossbow bolt slams into the wall near Riku but otherwise she is fine.
"Kill the idiot..." The man with the crossbow growls.
The woman in the back immediately draws two daggers nearly as fast as someone can blink and throws them at Corwin!
Dagger 1: 1d20 + 4 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 - 2 - 2 = 2
Dagger 2: 1d20 + 4 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 4 - 2 - 2 = 13
One misses, and the other clangs off his armor.
The man in the front next to the cross-bowman draws a short bow and fires at Corwin in one smooth motion.
Bow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

The arrow slams into his shoulder!
The man in the back, behind the crossbow wielder, draws a flask and throws it at Corwin!

There's a burst and a sudden hissing sound as acid splatters over Corwin's armor and skin!
