I raised this in the Book 1 thread but can anyone help me further with these guys?
Who are they? Why are they monks?
I assume it is the church they work for?
There are no higher level “sergeant” ones. And they disappear after book 1. Is their mission over or failed? It seems like a loose end...
They appear on the random encounter table but it doesn’t seem like they have authority to be patrolling the streets
What have people done with these guys ?
They're weird for sure. The fact they're monks doesn't make a ton of sense. Inquisitors might have been a better class choice.
Personally I've got a memory devil (with class levels) as the head of the local order, headquartered in the temple of Asmodeus.
But yeah they totally show up at random and then disappear.
In the book 1 thread I mused that they are perhaps monks because of them being like the anti-Irori . But that still doesn’t quite track
What does hand to hand combat have to do with finding and deleting history
As you mention inquisitor is an option. Or rogue or archivist bard (but a perversion of archivist)
They appear again as a troop in the Song of Silver in the Records Hall.

That's an inquisitor troop I believe.
Perhaps I will look at making them bards - concern is they are already pretty feeble
I assume there perform would be oratory but they are about removing information not giving it out through speech...
Records Hall is an Inquisitor Troop that are doing pretty much the same thing as Redactors do so having the early ones be Inquisitors makes sense.
Or Bards.
Or Rogues.
Or whatever you want if you want to re-make them.
Personally, if I were to remake them, I'd make them a mix of classes.
