Non-human character art?

General Discussion

My friends are starting a new Starfinder campaign and I made the critical mistake of wanting to play a ysoki; the first time playing a not-boring race. The problem now is trying to find character art for them. The vast majority of sci-fi art just has humans - the most you get are implants and tech added on. Maybe some robots. Otherwise it's just art ripped from the books themselves.

Are there any good resources for non-standard races in sci-fi settings? Particularly ysoki but if this thread can point out for any other races for future reference, that'd be great.

We need portraits as we play online, not least of which using them for tokens in combat. Helps a lot with visualising a character too.

Uhm, how about furry art?

You can find clothed ratfolk on furry art sites.

Do a Google picture search for 'starfinder ysoki'. That gives a fair selection.

create a rat gives you a bipedal rat without a lot of clothing options, but with an unreal array of colors and pattern combinations.

I'm going to guess you didn't name which sites because doing so would be against the rules due to the usual content on them.

Most of the art in Google image search is just literally ripped from the books themselves.

If it's only for use in a game, what's the problem? And a lot of the art is posted by the artists themselves in Deviantart and such.

A google image search for ratfolk, ratkin or even ratfolk turns out a ton of material, but you'll mostly have to replace their weapons with futuristic ones. Do you have image editing skills?

So whats your ysoki like? Class /archype personality?

As a GM I have found a lot of mileage from just using art out of the CRB for npcs and characters. The 3 example characters at the end of each class are fantastic material for this, and all have pawns already available and ready to go. The Ysoki soldier with the sniper rifle for example inspired a particularly nasty npc that my players have been hunting for a while.

Aside from that, you can also get some mileage with androids, Kasatha and a few other races from the iron gods pawn set from Pathfinder (weirdly a strong competitor for the best pawn set for starfinder games)

Actually, the furry art community does have a lot of good pics, you just need to realize that they project their fantasies through the art. Thus I can't name any sites that carry such art. Some of it is also very bad, and some are well rendered. But because they project their fantasies through the art, it's not something I shout from the rooftops.

As a furry myself, and someone who frequents those types of sites, they do often have a Safe For Work mode. And it is a good place to find artwork.
