I feel silly asking this (no, really) but I just want to make sure I'm not crazy - adding Tensile Reinforcement to the android armor upgrade slot doesn't do anything right?
With rules as written it seems I could make the case that if you did slot Tensile Reinforcement that your android would get the benefits which include calculating hit points as if you were 5 levels higher. But that can't possibly be what was intended.

It does nothing. Androids aren't items.
Androids aren't armor either, yet they get a expansion slot as if they were. Even though the lead designer calls this 'silly', he acknowledges RAW would add hit points and hardness
No he didn’t.
An android is not armor, so even if they install that armor mod, it has no effect. RAW it would increase their armor's HP and hardness, since that's what the upgrade says it does, but that's fairly silly.
