Sandara (Player's Perspective) (minor spoilers for book 1)

Skull & Shackles

Silver Crusade

So I'm playing in a Skulls and Shackles game that my Fiance is running he is only gonna use the first book (we just finished it).

Anyway, I'm running a Besmaran Oracle of Bones who was raised on a pirate ship. Needless to say, he fell horns over tail for Sandara. Also he might have ended up knocking her up (hard to get Night Tea after being a captive for 2-3 days and in a storm before that).

What have been your experiences with this fiery redhead, as players? I can say I didn't expect Erkos to fall for her as hard as he did, he mostly goes for guys.

Also have you ever had a character pull something like that on you that made you stop and go WHOAH! you're MY character... where the flip did that come from?

I was the GM of a S&S game we just finished. One of my players was a pretty arrogant and overconfident charmer in stylish clothes with a sword cane and a foppy hat. He instantly recognized how similar he and Conchobar were and of course they hated each other.

Another player fell in love with Sandara, but had to watch her die close to the end of book 1 before he could even confess his love. Eventually he managed to get the clerics from besmaras throne on his side so they could help him to resurrect her, but that wasn't before the end of book 4.

The party really liked her from the very beginning.
My Sandara, instead of being "the voice of the reason" was a cocky troublemaker with a foul mouth and they loved her.
I GMed on Dragonlance, which caused her to change Besmara for Zeboim, who is a capricious CE goddess of the sea and storm. This probably shaped her personality to be a lot more wild.
As I only had 3 players, I added Sandara as a NPC to fight with them so they were very close to her.

I made, as a mistake that later stuck to the game, that it was Plugg instead of Scourge who had made a pass on Sandara. So the Undine Bard and her became lovers early on the game and they loved to kiss in front of Plugg just to dare him. But in the night they were afraid of being attacked while sleeping and slept together to protect themselves. That made that this two had a very personal relationship.

After the whole AP they were always occasional lovers, but always in a casual way. It looked that she was actually more interested on our swashbuckler, and they looked like they had a relationship for a while, until the swashbuckler's fear of commitment screwed all up.

Right now the Bard and Sandara are sort of officially a couple, even though they are really liberal about it.
My dear group of crazy pirates!

That is ADORABLE!

Yeah, the relationship between Erkos (my Oracle) and Sandara is not exclusive, considering he's Polyamours, Panromantic and Pansexual (his grandfather was an Incubus, what would you expect). So there's also a Nagaji that my Fiance created who Erkos is ALSO in a relationship with. It's fun. Oh and the Bard also wants to sleep with Sanadra (and in the words of his player is fine with a threesome). Our ship is... interesting.

Yeah at the end of book one Erkos saw her sink below the waves and since in combat he's a bit useless right now (low level spells and has the consumed (playing it as astmatic) curse he drops like a sack of bricks).
He used his pet parrot (who has the deliver trick) to send her a potion of water breathing. (she gave it to Giffer). So he spent the next round running to where she was, then the third round jumping into the water and freeing her before going to free Giffer. Freeing her def saved our bard's life.
Also, I think she started to get feelings towards him when he in response to Scourge whipping him across the chest BIT Scourge (with a critical hit) and took a chunk out of his arm. (then he bit Plugg and got a second critical hit). Then he got dropped.

Now I think that the monkey Goblin might be infatuated in some form with Giffer.

Yeah weird ship.

We're gonna call it the Slartibartfast

That are some cool things, Snowfang ^.^

Our pirates were also a liberal bunch, I guess it's a pirate thing. The sorcerer married a NPC on the second book, but the other two were extremely liberal, so Sandara, the swash and the bard were a bit of a threesome, a bit of an open love triangle.

When they went to rescue Sandara, they could have had their mutiny before, but they felt that Sandara deserved to have her revenge against Plugg, so they thought they couldn't mutiny without her.

The undine loved Sandara's tricorne, and when they rescued her, Sandara wanted the bard to have it, but the bard refused. So the rest of the story the one who was wearing it would put on the other's head when she was unaware and it ended being a shared hat.

At the end of the campaign (I don't want to make spoiler here) the bard got an item that could disguise itself as any kind of hat, and she always makes it look like Sandara's tricorne xD

About Plugg, they caught him alive and after capturing The Man's Promise (now the Mustakrakish) they made a three day party where Plugg was kept tied and alive, and they would make him watch while they celebrated before they keelhauled him after the three days.

Silver Crusade

Eh we're diverging from the AP now and kinda doing whatever we want. I know that the party is gonna get to meet my PC's dad at some point (I'm one of the only people to make a super detailed background). His dad is a CN Drow Cleric of Besmara (long story there) who is a free captain.

But right now we need to get more crew.

Yeah, but I don't know if your GM is going to pick some elements from the AP or just go all homebrewed so I'd rather skip spoilers.

Curious that you mention your character's father because I also inserted some plot involving the undine's family to explore the background that the bard had. I love inserting some personal stuff for the players, but the other players plain refused to get into personal quests.

The events with the undines was one of the nlast things that I wrote on my campaign journal.

Neat. I'm keeping a personal written version of the Campaign that isn't exactly SFW. (perks to living with, and being engaged to, the GM too)

The bard is my couple too and I cut the NSFW parts a lot... So I undersrand you quite well. Having a couple that enjoys RPing has some advantages!!!

Same when I start writing RoW, I'll have to deal with a lot of innuendo instead of telling everything...
I tend to lower down the tone of the stories to keep them PG-13 xD

PG-13 can get pretty crazy where I live. But I live in a country that rated Deadpool 14A.

Yeah, lots of sex jokes (and other) around the table. Lots of Monty Python jokes too.

I approve sex and Monty Python. Even at the same time.

Where are you from, btw?

Here in Spain PG-13 doesn't mean a lot as it is seen more as a guidance than a rule.

We had an undine as well. An oracle. It took all of five minutes of campaign for her eyes to get locked onto Sandara. (she used her clouded vision to pretend she wasn't staring. Sandara knew.)

Eventually they got together. I too made Sandara less of a voice of reason, and in our case, into more of a cocky swashbuckling alcoholic with a streak of "hold my beer" style bad decisions. Good thing she was at least halfway competent at what she did, or the party (oracle aside) might have appreciated her a bit less. (As the campaign went on, I had her take a Seashbuckler level--as befitted fit her style--before continuing on with her original class.)

As it was, she was likeable enough that they liked her, and (usually) not so much of a liability that they'd grow tired of her. They liked a lot of their crew, and were constantly switching their attentions, but I'd say Sandara was probably among their top 3.

We had a recurring joke with our Sandara, as she would roll a 1 each time she had to show some social subtlety.

For twice in a row, she was sent to gather information and ended getting on a fight (and apparently winning):

Quote:

The party split up to ask some questions about the temple and look for some rumours about the spies before meeting their contact. Darren and Kiani got some random information about the Temple, the town and Tessa Fairwind. She seemed to be not only respected but also loved in her homeport, as she kept it safe and used some of her raided treasures to make the city more prosperous. Fox didn't get any useful information and when Sandara came back she looked like she had been on a fight.

«I just asked about whores and, Zeboim knows why, she thought I was calling HER a whore, so I ended having to punch her on the face repeatedly and pushing her into the water» was all the explanation she gave.
Quote:

Fox and Darren didn't find anything useful and Sandara looked like she had been in a fight again.

«This guy told me he was going to arrange a meeting with someone who'd share some information. But he took me into a dark alley and the people I met there were only willing to share their knives with me. They tried to rob me, can you believe it? So I had to beat the crap out of them and loot them. They were poor as rats.»

She also was great at handling animals: (two triceratops charmed by Isabella)

Quote:

They didn't fear or mistrust her. She picked some leafs and they ate them from her hand. One by one the other pirates came down and approached the animals too. At first they were aggressive and attempted to attack, but Isabella interposed herself, knowing she was safe. It took some time for Kiani and Darren to earn the animals' trust, but finally they allowed their presence. Sandara, who had the lowest charisma score (with a +2 modifier!), didn't get along so well with them. As always, she was too straightforward. Seeing that it had been quite easy for her friends, she confidently approached them, holding some leaves in her hand and offered them to one of the animals. It backed away from her and made a menacing sound. She approached it again, waving the leaves in front of the animal's nose like a fan and hitting it with them.

«It is stupid! It won't open its mouth! Come on, silly beast, eat some leaves!»
The "silly beast" lowered its head and emitted a menacing sound again. If it wasn't for Isabella, who interposed again, the animal would have ruthlessly charged Sandara. Animals weren't her thing. After her glorious attempt on socializing with them, the beasts were too nervous to allow further attempts on taming them.
Also, Sandara in a temple/brothel for the God of Fire and Passion:
Quote:

But before they left the temple Sandara, as a woman of faith, wanted to make an offering to Sirrion. Even if Zeboim and Sirrion were enemies, she actually found the Fire God's faith quite appealing. So she pulled out her best tobacco leaves and dropped them into the main hall's brazier. A heavy aromatic smoke cloud filled the whole place. Kiani, thinking her friend had the best idea ever, followed her guide and poured her best and strongest bottle of rum (looted from Palanthas) into the brazier, causing a big tongue of fire to erupt from it. The priests didn't know if the two pirate ladies were very devoted people or just a couple of vandals, but punishing them for just feeding the fire felt somewhat heretical, so they didn't complain.

All extracted from my campaign journal. I have to admit I went wild playing Sandara xD

And she can also draw. As I was posting last answer I found that she has uploaded a very thematic artwork to her Deviantart account
Check the artist's name!

Sounds like me. I never regretted anything, though, so they weren't bad decissions in the end.
