Despite having a lot of fun at PaizoCon 2017, I had a hard time writing this - not because the experience was bad in any way, but partly because I had a lot less to write about, and I was in much more of a organizational role than before, as opposed to playing.
I ran a lot of the PACG Open this year (the qualifier and the final). It was a tad chaotic, but it wasn't bad. I probably had a bit too much fun as a GM here (evil grin), but the groups prevailed, which is the result I expect. It was close! Unfortunately, I have to keep the details a bit more vague than I'd like since we have another Open at GenCon. It won't be the same is what I'm going to say. And we have a two-time winner, Pirate Rob!
While there's no big box set this year, I'm hopeful because there's a commitment to another PFSACG Season (Season of Favored Factions) in the works, and even more story interlinking. And more class decks of course. And take a look at the "suggestions threads" in General Discussion to see where they want to take this game.
Last year we got to see the Season of the Goblins appear from cartmanbeck's and Theryon Stormrune's excellent We Be Goblins! module. This time, I got to play the We Are Kobolds! module and it was just as excellent. Very very fun, and hopefully everyone gets a chance to play it as a PFSACG season. The boon sheet you get this year isn't nearly as insane, but it's still very good.
There was a nice story about the Otyugh who liked hats in the module. One of the players got really into the roleplaying, it was awesome.
As for the actual playing, we still had quite a few tables fire off; some people got from start to 3-x during the con, which was quite impressive.
I didn't do much of the other stuff this time around, which was a shame. There was a lot of excitement around Starfinder this year, and with good reason. It's too bad we're not getting an SACG anytime soon, but all good things take time.
Well, back to the grind (and the local convention circuit). See you next year!
