Winged Marauder + Roc = Doable?

Rules Questions

The Winged Marauder gives you either a Dire Bat or a Giant Vulture, two companions that start at Medium and grow to Large; the Roc is a flying companion that starts at Medium and grows to Large.

Can a Winged Marauder select the Roc as its companion, or any other flying companion for that matter?

It says that they MUST select Dire Bat or Giant Vulture, so this seems like one that doesn't have a way around it. That said, I don't think its entirely unreasonable, unless Rocs have something else limiting their use.

The only thing I could find as a limitation was that the Winged Marauder is presented as a Goblin-exclusive archetype, which leads me to think it's either their size (which the Roc can easily take) or their culture (which in turn the Roc isn't part of).

Funny thing is that a hobgoblin could take that archetype, but would have to wait until 7th level to be able to mount either the Dire Bat or the Giant Vulture. I get that you can always houserule what companions are available, but when you're omitting a B1 animal when you pick a B3 animal, it feels odd.

Wait until a Pteranodon/Pterodactyl/Quetzalcoatlus or Giant Raven gets added as a companion :P

Hobgoblins can take Undersize Mount they then can ride both. The race itself is slightly better at being Alchemists because of favored class bonus a bomb every other level. Thy get a +2 to Dex and Con no minus have no problem reading books and are considered Goblin subtype allowing them to take Winged Marauder and the Scrap Bomb discovery.
I played a Hobgoblin Alchemist once and loved him. Monster Codex wasn't out yet otherwise would have played one.
