Questions on ROTRL Sinspawns

Advice

Shadow Lodge

I am a newish GM and i am doing Rise of The Runelords as my first Campaign. It has four players and they seem to really be enjoying it. They are getting close to the Catacombs of Wrath and i have a question with the Sinspawn:

1. It lists that they have 2 claws and a bite. So im assuming that's 3 attacks. Or is it just two attacks and they are saying the sinspawns first attack is two claws at once (just rolling one atk roll) and than its bite. And i assume it falls under the rules for using more than one weapon.

2. It lists its init as +0. But its Dex is at least a +1 bonus and it has the improved initiative feat which gives it a +4 bonus so it should at least be a +5 bonus but for some reason in the beginning its listed as +0 and i dont see any reason (at lest any listed reason) why its not listed as +5. Im a little confused. Do i apply the feat and Dex or just keep it at +0.

Thanks for all they help.

One more question is there a GM area besides the one in the Pathfinder Societies Forum. I'm not sure if i can post questions there for non society gaming. Thanks again.

1) Three attacks: two separate claw attacks and a bite. The sin spawn can make any one of these attacks as a standard action, or all three as a full-round action. It is not treated as two-weapon fighting.

2) It's listed as +5 here. I'm not sure where the sinspawn stats you're looking at are found.

There are no other separate GM areas. This is a fine place for your questions, though. ^_^

Assuming this sinspawn (wrathspawn) is what you're looking at...

1. 2 claws and a bite are three attacks, all of which are primary natural attacks. Primary natural attacks are made at normal BaB+Strength and add full Strength on damage rolls. If they use a martial weapon along with their natural attacks (a ranseur in this case), all natural attacks in that round are considered secondary, which imparts a -5 penalty on the attack roll and they only add half Strength bonus on damage rolls. In addition, since the sinspawn's claws are it's hands, and it requires it's hands to hold the ransuer, it cannot make claw attacks on the same round it uses the ransuer. If it had a one-handed weapon like a longsword, a sequence such as longsword+bite+claw is possible.

2. It's initiative bonus seems fine on this stat block, so there shouldn't be a problem. The one you're referencing may be misprinted? Or maybe there's another factor affecting it I'm uncertain of.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Kalindlara. Nice new avatar! Seoni in armor will be missed.

Regarding #2: it might just be a typo. It looks like you're running the original Rise of the Runelords rather than the Anniversary Edition. Those books are highly out of date, as they're using the 3.5 D&D rule set rather than Pathfinder. When your budget allows, I highly recommend picking up the Anniversary Edition. ^_^

Even if you don't, many of the rules and monsters have been updated to Pathfinder rules. Try using the search function on this page.

Yes this is a copy a friend gave me to use. He got it in 2009 so i can see how it can be out of date. So ill need to make some changes as i go. THanks for letting me know about the attacks all being primary
. And thanks for the link to the search function Kalindlara,
