Masterwork Naginata

Silver Crusade 1/5

Why would a chronicle sheet list a masterwork naginata? I understand a magical naginata is not on the always available list, but isn't a magical item and it's in ultimate combat. That looks like it is in the always available list? Am I wrong?

It's always available for normal PFS games, but someone playing Core would appreciate getting access to a MW weapon from a non-core book.

Now that Core campaign is a thing having non-CRB items of any kind on a chronicle is great.

A: Core campaign players will apprectiate it.
B: Exchange characters might be able to buy it at a discount, and there are a couple of player boons out there with similar effect.

Indeed, a recent chronicle had blunt arrows on it making it a great Core game for any archers.

Not trying to be cute, but I think there's an irony in wanting to get non-core toys for your core game :p

Well, sometimes it's about flavor. Glaives are cool and all, but what if I want a Minkaian character?

The unintended joys of core :P

Then don't play core

I actually bought a masterwork naginata from a Chronicle sheet - I liked the idea of having something tied to my adventure. I thought it more flavorful that just getting a spear.

So noted. Thanks to this chronicle though, there's a way!

I thought it was about getting the more "traditional" experience of equipping your character with what you find during your adventures, instead of just going to the Everything Store, and getting exactly what you need. Sure you can continue to ignore the chronicle stuff and just go with what is in the Core Rulebook, but for at least (haven't played Core yet), the appeal of the system would be to see what kinds of characters I'd be able to build with what I find.

I think there are multiple different incentives for Core.

1. Limited options means less time needed to research all your choices.
2. Chronicle loot becomes more meaningful, because you cannot buy it any other way, which can be cool for some people.
3. Less pressure to buy all the latest books to stay competitive with other players.
4. You have already played everything standard, so you don't really have a choice.
5. It can be less intimidating to GMs, in that you are less likely to be surprised by what a PC can do.

I'm sure there are more. But given that different people are playing for different reasons, responding to "I want to do X in core" with "then don't play core" is neither helpful nor useful.
