Very technical question incoming!
I'm trying to reverse engineer a level 1 Amiri (iconic character, built to be playable, found here http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/npcCodex/iconic/amiri.html ) to get a nice, fairly finished character - I'd like to know where all the values came from so that I can enter the stats properly, and know what needs changing when I level up. Trouble is, Amiri's page doesn't tell you *how* Paizo arrived at the values they did.
Some I've managed to crack (I think), like her damage with a Bastard Sword is given as 2d8+6. 2d8 rather than 1d10 because it's a large weapon, plus strength modifier (+4), plus HALF of strength modifier (+2) because the sword is two-handed. Right?
BUT there are other values that either seem too high or too low, and I can't work out what rules I'm missing. For example, her attack bonus is given as +3, but I've worked it out as +4; base attack bonus of 1, +4 strength modifier brings it to five, -1 for a size penalty.
And why do her attack bonus and damage go up, by +1 and +3 respectively when she enters Rage? If strength modifier is the only relevant value that changes during Rage, should they not both increase by +4? Her attack bonus should come out as:
BAB (+1), plus strength modifier (+4), plus rage increase to strength modifier (+4), minus large weapon penalty (-1).
What am I doing wrong? Are there some rules that I'm completely failing to take into account?
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm very curious!

Using a Large bastard sword imparts a -2 penalty to her attacks, not just -1. So BaB 1 (+1), Str 18 (+4), Large weapon (-2) = Total Attack Bonus +3.
When Amiri rages, her Strength (and Constitution) increase by 4 points. This leaves her Strength at 22, meaning a +6 in that ability score. Using her bastard sword two-handed, she gains a +2 to attack rolls above non-rage (so +6 plus BaB etc total). For damage, since using a weapon two-handed means you deal Strength and a half, she deals 9 because, again, Str of 22 = +6. 6 / 2 = 3. 6 + 3 = 9.
I hope this makes sense and clears up some of your confusion.

Right.

The penalty for wielding an inappropriately sized weapon is -2 per size category difference, not -1.

Her attack bonus increases by +2 when she enters rage (from +3 to +5) because she gets a +4 increase to her strength score, not to her strength modifier. Her strength starts out as 18 (+4) and rage increases it to 22 (+6), giving her an additional +2 bonus to her attacks. Damage increases by +3 because it is based one-and-a-half times her strength modifier: the bonus her strength gives to her damage increases from +6 (1.5 x 4) to +9 (1.5 x 6). I'm not explaining it very well, but I hope that helps.
