Arcane Discoveries

Rules Questions

Running on way too little sleep, but I gotta toss up a question: Is there any difference between a stock wizard feat and an arcane discovery. I have a strange idea that there is no difference and want validation, clarification or derision.

Arcane discoveries work like feats with a pq of wizard levle X.

Other than the following, they have no relation to one another at all:

They really should have just been feats. They work in almost every way like a new subtype of feat would have.

Are they effectively 'Wizard only feats'?

Milo v3: Thanks for the quote, I was thinking it had to be a bonus feat only.

Effectively but not exactly. If you have something that specifies it functions 'with feats' you're hosed on getting the synergy between those things.

Yes, only wizards can take them. Kyrt-ryder is also correct in that they don't synergize with abilities that affect feats.

Doh! Was not meta-thinking on Bonus stacking. As if my players wouldn't have exploited it some way...

I built a wizard that took nothing but arcane discoveries except for maybe one or two feats. I loved it. I had the GM asking "you're doing what" almost every session. Ahhh, that was great.
