Help building a character to match the backstory

Advice

So I was looking for advice building a character. This character would be a human paladin of Torag who wields a dwarven longhammer. Now, as part of the backstory, this character was raised by a dwarven cleric of Torag after his parents were killed by giants while travelling in the five kings mountains area when we was a young child, as such he has a relatively strong hatred towards giants. Now the part I was looking for advice on is how to integrate this into the character mechanically. I was looking at either taking a level dip into ranger with humanoid (giant) as the favored enemy or maybe an oathbound paladin. What do you guys recommend or think would be the best way to do this? Thanks!

Ranger VMC would probably fit well, get Favored Enemy Giant and Favored Terrain Mountain

Liberty's Edge

If you're not sold on being a paladin, you might consider an inquisitor of Torag with the Favored Judgement feat.

I'm pretty set on a paladin, since it's my first chance to get to play one in quite some time, but I might look into an inquisitor.

My only concern with the VMC is the loss of feats, which I feel like I may be hampered by.

On another note, does anybody know if there is an oath for oathbound paladins that has to do with giants specifically? I've looked through my copy of Ultimate Magic and haven't seen it, so I don't know if it's just non-existent or if there is one in a different book.

Thanks again folks.

If you're going THF with a warpick you actually don't need all that many feats.

Nope, no oath against giants, though there IS an oath against dragons *glares in direction of The Hobbit*

Ranger multiclassing sounds okay, although I think oath of vengeance itself should work reasonably well on its own.

1) Choose the Adoptive Parentage alternate Human Racial trait, to gain Weapon Familiarity with Dwarven weapons. It will be better than getting the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat. Do not confuse this with the Adopted Social Trait.

2) Accompany your Longhammer, with a Dwarven Boulder Helmet, to threaten adjacent opponents as well.

3) You don't need a lot of Giant specific abilities, to hate, hunt, and kill Giants. You can do this with flavor.

Finally:

Is this for a specific adventure path?

Would your DM allow Giantslayer Campaign traits, if not running Giantslayer?

Did not know that alternate racial feat was a thing, but definitely will have to look at it.

Would this be recommended over carrying a secondary, non-reach weapon, such as a warhammer. (for flavor, of course)

I believe that this is a campaign the GM cooked up on his own, but he's quite flexible with traits as long as they're Paizo official, so it isn't unlikely that I'd be allowed to use those traits.

Grand Lodge

1) It's not a feat, it's an alternate Racial trait, from the Advanced Race Guide.

2) The Dwarven Boulder Helmet can strike adjacent fores, and can be wielded at the same time as the Longhammer. This allows you to threaten at 5 and 10 feet. The combination swells with appropriate flavor. Double Dwarven Weapons. You could even have a couple of Light Hammers, for Ranged Attacks. How more Dwarven does your fighting style need to be?

3) If that's so, nab a trait that gives you a Giant specific bonus, like +1 to damage, or +1 dodge bonus, or something like that.

Finally, don't get too caught up in the names of classes, archetypes, feats, and traits. You have the power to change the flavor, to fit your PC.

Even PFS allows for such reflavoring, within reason.

Grab a few throwing axes, you don't want all of your damage to be bludgeoning.
