Quickdraw shield Switch Hitter idea.

Advice

Hi everyone!:-)

i was thinking about an original "sword and board" Switch Hitter idea: a Ranger with the Divine Tracker archetype (of Nemyth Vaar: Chaotic Neutral deity of Betrayal, insanity and revenge) that would be fight, beside the usual bow, with a quickdraw Shield and a bastard sword; switching between two handed weapon in order to attack his foes in melee and immediately switch to sword and board to increase her AC during the foes attacks.

Can that work? Can you help me build something like that?

Thanks! :-)

I suggest that you start

Here

and then look

i already checked that guides: they are really nice; but none of them consider my idea. :-(

I'd skip the bastard sword and just go with a scimitar unless you're a human or half-elf and can pick up the exotic proficiency as a bonus at lv1.

Edit: that being said, I do have experience with the quickdraw shield 'style' and I have to say it is awesome. Mine was melee-focused, but I think it could work pretty well with the switch hitter since that build already includes the main thing you need to make shield dancing work; ie quick draw.

Sorry I didn't realize what point you were on for your PC.

I think the switch hitter you described can work fine.

Considerations:
1. The quick-draw shield

Spoiler:

Quickdraw Shield (Light Wooden or Steel)

This light shield is specially crafted with a series of straps to allow a character proficient in shields to ready or stow it on his or her back quickly and easily.

Benefit: If you have a base attack bonus of +1 or higher, you may don or put away a quickdraw shield as a swift action combined with a regular move. If you have the Two-Weapon Fighting feat, you can draw a light or one-handed weapon with one hand and a quickdraw shield with the other in the time it would normally take you to draw one weapon. If you have the Quick Draw feat, you may don or put away a quickdraw shield as a free action.

2. The quick draw feat
3. The TWF feat

The shield is usable with neither feat, but offers the most bang for the buck with both feats....

However the +1 boost to AC is easier to get taking the Dodge feat

Sovereign Court

Really though - switch-hitters aren't needed since Point Blank Master came out. Though admittedly - my home game house-ruled it away as it does away with the primary disadvantage of the game's most powerful combat style. (archery)

yep...i forgot to say that Nemyth Vaar has the Bastard Sword as Favored Weapon; and the Divine Tracker archetype makes the character proficient with his god's favored weapon. :-)
