Acid Splash

Rules Questions

Hello,

Acid Splash is a lvl 0 Sorcerer/Wizard (and some others) spell... In it description it states that the acid disappears after 1 round... This makes me feel like there is a lingering effect on the square I threw the acid at.

Is this true or am I reading it wrong?

Cheers,
Sorrol

I... have no idea, and I'm also curious about the answer.

That said, judging from the spell's base Instantaneous duration, and the lack of text defining how a character can interact with an Acid Splash after initial impact of the ranged touch attack, I would guess that the 1 round description duration exists for flavor reasons.

At the very least, the rules are silent on how a character interacts with an Acid Splash after the attack roll.

The 1 round comment is basically meaningless. It is an instantaneous spell with instantaneous damage.

Sometimes the fluff of a spell doesn't quite mesh with the facts of the spell. This is such a case.

Wizard action: Cast acid splash.
Rogue action: Scoop up acid in flask, give to alchemist.
Alchemist action: Throw!
???
Glorious victory!

That line is there because as a conjuration spell it could be construed as permanent (many conjuration spells are), and you would have had someone trying to make a fortune with apprentices chained up in the basement sweat-shopping acid flasks.

I concur. No multiple castings of acid splash into flasks to provide free and infinite supply of splash weapons is probably what was intended.
