Just curious... which deities did Cayden Cailean and Norgorber worship before they ascended themselves? Were there any particular deities who had their portfolios beforehand, and if so, what happened to those deities? Finally, do gods get ticked at followers who ascend to godhood in their own right, or is it more like a parent seeing his child at graduation?

Have you read Mythic Realms? According to that, another deity would have had to sponsor them. Of course, what happened to those deities is unknown - certainly their identities haven't been confirmed.
Rumor ties Cayden to Calistria, and I wouldn't be too surprised.
If Norgorber's patron still exists - big if, given how secretive he is about his identity - I would guess it's Asmodeus. Look at Norgorber's various functions - that's the sort of thing Asmodeus would want around. And even if Norgorber isn't properly lawful, Asmodeus might have something on him - even as simple as the secret of his identity.
As for the latter question, I'm guessing it depends - most followers will likely make good allies with similar moral bent, though, and (most) gods love that. (Naderi is a good example of an exception.)

I think any of the gods who fought to imprison Rovagug would want a patron god of secrets around. If only to keep the secret on how to free the rough beast, or where any other artifacts of that war are hidden in case he is set free.
