New Race Concept: Half-Orc and Half-Hobgoblin

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

According to the bestiary, orcs and hobgoblins share a lot in common, including living on temperate plains. I then got an idea of creating a half breed race of the two (there are stranger mixes out there) using the advanced race guide. I used the uruk hai from the LOTR films as a guideline of what they might be like. I'd like a bit of feed back on this race (and possibly a better name than uruk or hoborc).

Uruk (Advanced Race) Race Points:11

The unnatural spawn of orcs and hobgoblins, uruks combine
hobgoblin cunning with the primal ferocity of orcs. Uruks
are never the result of accidental mating between the two
races, but rather the final product of intensive breeding
between slaves and captives. They can have any combination
of orc and hobgoblin characteristics, though uruks typically
resemble a solid mix of the two races. They stand as tall
as an average human, but are far more muscular. Most people
mistake uruks as just particularly odd looking orcs or
hobgoblins.

Uruk Racial Traits

+4 Str, +2 Dex, +2 Con, -2 Cha: Uruks combine the strength of an orc with the swiftness and vigor of a hobgoblin. Though physically impressive, their brutal and violent nature makes them unpleasant company.

Mixed Blood: Uruks are humanoids with both the orc and goblinoid subtype.

Medium: Uruks are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.

Normal Speed: Uruks have a base speed of 30 ft.

Darkvision: Uruks can see in the dark up to 60 feet.

Intimidating: Uruks receive a +2 racial bonus on Intimidate checks.

Stalker: Perception and Stealth are always class skills for an uruk.

Orc Ferocity: Once per day, when an uruk is brought below 0 hit points but not killed, he can fight on for 1 more round as if disabled. At the end of his next turn, unless brought to above 0 hit points, he immediately falls unconscious and begins dying.

Language: Uruks begin play speaking Comman and Orc or Comman and Goblin. Uruks with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Draconic, Dwarven, Giant, Gnoll, Goblin (or Orc), Infernal, and Undercommon.

I'd say its a solid start but you need to rethink the stat bonuses. They're just too strong to match up with any of the typical races. I would say you could do +2 to all physical stats and -2 to Wis and Cha both. With that change I think you've got a solid PC-usable race.

I never intended for them to be a player character race, just an npc race along the lines as having ogres as a race. As for the unbalanced stats, I was only following the race builder by the book and used the advanced ability score modifier (I agree though that there stats are a bit rediculous). I'm a bit surprise that I hadn't heard of this concept before. Hobgoblins are practicaly just highly millirant orcs, and both races seem.to equally enjoy slavery, rape, and pillaging. I used to think hobgoblins were just goblins mixed with orcs.
