Well, the phone number *is* for the benefit of text-messaging. The only people who call me are my two brothers. And they talk. And they talk. And they talk some more. They talk so much during phone calls that my phone listening time allowance is overdrawn for . . . at least the next five years. Yeah. Sounds about right.

My brother doesn't call. My father on the other hand could talk for hours. Though he apparently loves me to annoy me by calling and asking what interesting I have to say.
*sigh*
Nothing. I have nothing interesting to say. We spoke just a few days ago and nothing changed since that time.

Well, they're only speaking from what they know. Phone calls aren't how most people operate these days. (Myself included.) Still, it was poor foresight on their part to not adjust their planning once they learned you aren't on Facebook. My Roll20 crew has two guys that don't use Facebook, so we got the crew on Telegram to keep them in the loop.
I'm an e-mail guy, and everyone knows it. So e-mail invites (NOT E-VITE) are the way to go.
But I have a cell phone I never use except for the express purpose of receiving text messages for those for whom e-mail is a thing of the past.
So it's like Kim Possible says: "Call me. E-mail me. Text me. If you wanna reach me..."

Well, to me, Facebook is just like being back in high school.
"Well, if you really liked me, then you'd follow me on Facebook. So if you don't follow me on Facebook, it means you don't like me, so I don't want to hang around with you."
It's all passive-aggressive kid stuff I left behind 30 years ago.
Nowadays, if you tell me, "If you don't sign up for Facebook, you'll never get to come to any of my social events ever again," I'll just respond, "Oh, well, it's a price I'll have to pay..."

What is it about Facebook users that their fundamental belief seems to be, "If you're not on Facebook, then you really don't like me?"
Yet again, a couple of our friends who are "Facebook-only" communicators sent out an invite via Facebook, this time for the wife's 40th birthday party. So I don't use Facebook, but NobodysWife explained that they invite other Facebook users, and an alert shows up on your personal Facebook page that you've been invited. But what about those of us with no Facebook at all (myself, Hi's player) or who rarely ever check it (NobodysWife, Shiro's player)?
Well, it turns out that the conversation goes like this:
Hurt celebrant: Why weren't you at my party?
NH: Er... because you didn't invite me?
HC: But it's been on Facebook for two months now!
NH: I don't use Facebook.
HC: A look of comprehension dawns on her face. Oh! You should get Facebook, then! That way you won't miss my parties!I was talking with NobodysWife about it this morning. She was talking about how much more effort it is to have to contact everyone individually, so she can understand people using Facebook invites exclusively.
Call me old-school, but if you don't care for me enough to CC: me on an e-mail or give me a quick call, you really don't need me at your party...
EDIT: And yes, this is the same pair of friends who were appalled that we didn't know the wife was three months pregnant. "We posted it on Facebook as soon as we knew! Don't you follow us?" (Big hurt looks at us...)
more proof of Facebook's evil.
We must stand against it, lest we be assimilated into their infinite hive of likes and shares.

In case of my friends it's more of being lazy and forgetful. And honestly I can empathize with that... Sending sms with invitations is pain in the ass... Whom I have already invited? Whom I missed while scrolling through contact list? Argh. Whom I don't have on my contacts lists?!
EDIT: To clarify, that "blackmail" thing was a tongue-in-cheek. Though I admit that facebook helps organizing events.

You know how in Pathfinder you hit a certain age and BAM! Your Wisdom goes up by 2 for no particular reason?
I must have just hit that threshold.
I just hid the "Rules" and "Advice" forums...
I just adjust my settings to "Ozzy" and throw out a few nonsensical aliases to see who bites.
Edit: Not sure which is more hilarious, Ozzy's hair, or the obviously and terribly blue screened V-Neck Guitar "flying" down the tracks. :-D

I'll make a wild guess that he isn't using Facebook either (or at least not often), and she does not see him because of her focus on using facebook to connect with people.

Just another person complaining that, "Oh, I haven't seen XXX in ages!", even though she has his e-mail, phone number, and mobile number, but since she does all her socializing on Facebook, he doesn't exist.

I think after analyzing my last two trips to the local game store, that it is not other tabletop gamers who smell so g*~!&&n f~&*ing awful.
It's the Magic the Gathering players.
That's just mean, dude. I bathe. Regularly, and well. Exception proving the rule?
sigh
Though you're not wrong, entirely. Last Saturday's LGS trip introduced me and Darth Heathen to a new world of funkiness -- detect stench at Close range without spending any spell points/slots! And the offender in question played tabletop minis and M:TG.

As many of you know, I have no patience for computers not working.
This weekend after months of negotiation, I got an old computer(4 years, which to some in the field means it should barely be able to run dos), from my friends mom, who formatted the hard drive and gave me a ride over to my house. I removed my ancient desktop computer
(Legit, it runs windows 98) and put in the new one, the new monitor, keyboard, and everything and fished out the windows 8 usb my friend got me a month back just for this occasion and tried to get it up and running.
No go.
I am not the most technologically savvy person on the planet so I chalked it up to dullwittedness on my part at first. Went to Google, YouTube, everything I could think of. It seemed to be relatively simple, just make some changes in the bios so that the usb would be recognized. I cannot say I became an expert under any circumstances, but I learned more about bios in the next few hours than I have in my entire life. Nothing worked.
I was about to put my fist through the shiny new monitor when I realized that I was going down the wrong road. I would never be able to turn myself into one of those weird computer people no matter how hard I tried, but I had infinitely more patience with people than with machines. My computer friends didnt return my texts, but I had the information I needed to be able to contact the company and get some answers, or at least be able to eliminate some useless questions. One 15 minute phone call later and i have the worst possible answer - the computer won't recognize windows 8 as the bios simply won't work with it. I need to get my hands on a windows 7 cd somehow.
This is disappointing news at best, but at least i was able to find the answers I needed. Now to do what my wife has been begging me to do and call my unsavory brother in law to see if he has a windows 7 anything lying around...

windows 8
I think I found the problem right there.
Eight may be a favored number by my family, in general, but that particular OS is... not.
(It sucks, is what I'm saying, from my limited experience with eight: everything broke, nothing worked.)
windows 7
A vastly superior choice in all regards, from my experience. I wish you the best of luck, especially as Microsoft is doing its darndest to destroy everything they've ever done with that OS, including making any positive strides annulled in 10, from what I can tell. And I still can't find a way to reset back to 10, no matter how much they totally swore that I legitimately could at any time.
This is after they stealth-"upgraded" me - against my will - to 10 without warning in advance.
Not that I'm bitter.

NobodysWife had the choice between the pre-made mass-produced generic cosplay Lulu costume, or, for $80 more, getting one hand-made by a lifelong cosplayer based on NobodysWife's exact measurements.
Guess which one we chose?
Life is good...
I, uh, I didn't see this post!
Congratulations, though, NH! And NW! :D
Now you just need to run RotR and/or CotCT as an FFX expy, with bonuses to those who wear costumes based off their character export...
(Though, uh, you may need to supply a be the Wakka... so choose carefully.)
:D
(Other options may include Jade Regent, Skull and Shackles, and Iron Gods; and/or maybe with some setting re-fluffing a solid Kingmaker, too.)

Tonight on Vaguely Asian Game of Thrones Legend of the Five Rings:
So last week, when I was out of town and couldn't play...
After my manipulations to cause a clan war between two clans by framing the Mantis for a murder in Hare Clan lands when the Crane are visiting, the Mantis member of our party is sentenced to death by the Emperor. He is given a Summary Judgment of Execution and the Voice of the Emperor is sent out to Mantis lands, to his own homeland, to have his wife killed as a member of his family. He and the rest of the party rushes there to save her, because his wife is cousin to the Emperor, and sister of the lover of another party member (a former Crane clan ronin), and because the other two of us are Scorpions and will be owed a favor by the Emperor's cousin (the sister - not the one being executed). We have to beat the Voice to the island to smuggle her out for plan to work.
Today: The ronin comes up with a huge convoluted plan. He also sends a letter bragging afterwards, more or less saying, "Ha ha, we got the princess out, and I'm responsible for it," claiming credit for what is about to go down, to be read the next day by the Daimyo.
The plan goes down well enough, with a few complications. I'm charged with smuggling the princess to the harbor.
The thing is - the princess was never supposed to be killed. They were just doing that to trick her husband into showing up because he was wanted.
It's that moment I choose to reveal I'm not actually a Scorpion clan member at all but a deep cover Spider clan member (total villains), and I yell out "For Daigatsu!", I kill the princess, the other Scorpion agent, and almost kill the ronin before escaping.
Best part - the ronin gets all the infamy from it, nobody actually knows the Spider did it, the clan war continues, and I assassinated a princess.
So I'm retiring my character (he's now an NPC villain), and I got to fulfill my Dark Fate by assassinating a royal family member (and I got THIS CLOSE to taking out the Voice as well).

I was very useful - I started a clan war between two minor clans, another between two major, murdered an heir to the throne, and best of all, it all fell on the ronin, so nobody even knows the Spider had anything to do with it (the yelling out part - anyone who heard that died). I weakened a LOT of potential rivals.

Strange... 4 year old computer should be able to work with window 8. I run it on a computer that was much-much older, practically assembled from random parts, had 1 GB of memory (and that as far as I can tell was the max I could put into it as any bigger memory was too new for it), and a gfx card that had 128 MB or VRAM, I think... It's bios was ancient. Still, the windows 8 worked. Slowly and crashing often, though it might have been caused by the fact it was the pre-release free version.
It must be an issue with the particular type of bios being not supported by windows 8 :/
