How does Vale have Double Slice?

Rise of the Runelords

Vale Temros from HMM has both TWF and Double Slice despite not meeting the prereqs for either of them. One of them is covered by his bonus fighting style feat, the other is not.

I'm wondering how this is possible... I might not have even noticed it if not statting him up in HeroLab. There are other threads talking about whether rangers can take any feats from their fighting style without the prereqs or if they are only able to when picking the style feats specifically. RAW seems to support the "Style feats only" argument.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts, guys.

Greetings, fellow traveller.

You're right, seems to be an(other) error.

There's a suggestion in the errata document:

Page 143
Vale Temros: Does not qualify for the Double Slice feat and includes an iterative attack for his offhand weapon. Statblock should read “+1 battleaxe +10/+5 (1d8+7/x3), +1 handaxe +10 (1d6+3/x3)”. Replacing Double Slice with Weapon Specialization (handaxe) keeps the damage in the statblock accurate. He still can’t make the offhand iterative.

Maybe that works for you.

Ruyan.

Thank you, sir. I appreciate both the clarification and the suggestion.

The fact that Vale (as published) doesn't meet the reqs for TWF or Double Slice won't break the campaign. In fact, it's doubtful your players will even notice or have reason to question his feats.

You can certainly drop Double Slice, or make any any other changes to you need to make the character as "rules correct" as possible. I don't bother because there will be little no impact to the error. I prefer to spend my time on things that will be meaningful to the players.

I might not have even noticed it if not statting him up in HeroLab.

Someone has done all of that work already FYI.

Huh? Is there an errata document for RotR? I missed that one so far.

There's an errata thread in this forum you can find. The Errata doc I've been checking is this:

It's not released by Paizo, but rather has evolved within this thread.

The full document can be accessed here (linkified from above).

Just change his stats so he qualifies

I've run into basically no issues at all ignoring all the minor stat block errata and running the encounters as-is. Your players will never know the difference; something like this would only matter if you hand off Vale's stat block to the PCs to use as a replacement character or a cohort or something.

I completely agree here. I regularly run NPCs with "illegal" choices. The players will never know, nor should they care.

While creating Vale Temros in TOS+ for my RotRL campaign and I came across the same prerequisite error...!

Since I'll be having one of the PCs run this character while in combat, (by giving him the .tos file generated by TOS+), I can't ignore this bug!

@RuyanVe THANKS for the small change! I'll apply wpn specialization to his handaxe to bypass this bug.

Paizo should really use an established tool (pointing at TOS+) to validate their characters... it looks bad when a publisher gets it wrong with its own rules hehehe :P :P
