Musket Master Build Suggestions

Advice

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to build a Human Gunslinger - Musket Master archtype, for a homebrew game. It's pathfinder rules, but you can have anything from 3.5 and PF.

I rolled for stats (4d6 pick top 3 - reroll 1's) and ended up with 17,16,16,15,14,12. Following the order that stats are listed in, I was thinking Dex, Wis, Cha, Int, Con, Str.

We're starting at level 5, with the gold that the PF core book says we start with, 10,500 gp i think.

Any ideas on changing stats, skills to put heavy amounts into, feats, weapons, armor, gear?

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advanced.

EDIT: This is only my second charater ever, and starting at level 5 leaves to many options open, hence the asking for suggestions.

I was also thinking of making him some sort of sniper that is far away from the thick fighting. So long range emphasis on feats/weapons/gear

For feats, the must-haves are Deadly Aim, Point-Blank Shot, and Rapid Shot.

You probably will want Precise Shot as well, although if you're starting at 5th level you can probably hit touch even with the -4 penalty.

Are you attached to the "sniper" idea? It is not really easy to do, and in 95% of situations it probably won't come into play. Just because of how the game is usually set up, it's rare that you're going to spend a significant amount of time farther than 40 ft from your enemies. You can do "sniper" stuff just by using the Deadeye deed - that is your best bet, I wouldn't invest anything else in sniper stuff unless you have a reason to believe long-range combats will be normal in your campaign.

As for skills, the most common skill check in the game (by far) is Perception, and you are absolutely built for it. You have good wisdom and Perception as a class skill, so you want to put max ranks into it and really shine. Then I would HIGHLY recommend buying an Eyes of the Eagle (2,500 gp) to get another +5, and since you're human I would also say take Focused Study to get Skill Focus (perception) at level 1, and that will give you another free Skill Focus at level 8. Every party can use a character with a champion Perception bonus - I would highly recommend you be that person. It's also thematic for the "sniper"-style character - you can't snipe someone that you can't see.

This last part is not going to work.

But for the built get point blank, rapid and precise shot, deadly aim and possibly Dodge so you are on your way to deft shootist.
Highest stat is dex and that is also the place to put every increase you get.
With dex 20 at level 5 you will be looking at somthing like +8/+8(vs touch AC) 1d12+10 at for targets within 30 feet.
get a mithral shirt(possibly+1), a Master work musket, some weapon blanch to get over DR, a cloac of resistance and some potions( healing, invis, fly, stuff like that) the featherstone step slippers are very good if you use a combat map since ignoring difficult terrain is amazing. For traits i am a fan of fates favored and never stop shooting.
Remember to put at least one rank in craft (Alchemy) and make a lot of alchemical cartridges the paper variant.
And good luck.
