Some questions:

1-Who is in charge of the overall site?

2-How do I submit a bug/errata/obsolete info notification?

3-I see a "Donate" button, to whom does that go to, and what are any donations used for?

4-Can a section be added (if its there I don't see it) to make a list of player resources and useful links(like Reference_New Player Resources ; Cheatles Guide, Nihimonicon and PF HQ among many useful resources?

5-Is there a way to receive an email or text notification when the site is updated?

Thanks to everyone who has made this site so very useful and informative! :)

Mark Moreland is probably the most "in charge". Several of us from T7V have been working on it, and I'm sorry to say it's a little out-of-date. The reason we haven't started pushing it's usage yet is because we're still trying to iron out the kinks on how to store the data so it can be easily updated without overwriting user changes to pages.

Giorgio wrote:

There's a Discussion or Talk page for every page, so you can just post something there. But also, see above.

Giorgio wrote:

I'm positive those donations go only towards funding the hosting service, but Mark Moreland could probably provide a better answer.

Yes. Register an account and create that page yourself :)

You can "Watch" pages, but I'm not sure how that works.

Does anybody know why I have to provide a 50 word biography in order to participate? Along with requiring my real name?

This is a gateway to participation that is way more irritating than crafting achievements.

Goblin Squad Member

I guessed it was to avoid the typical Wikia-type problem of too many people's egos being splashed across pages without any sort of accountability. There at least you'll know something about the person when you see a name that's made a change, and Mark can decide, based on your 50+ words, whether to give you an account at all.

When we met Mark and Andrew at PaizoCon for the Wiki Seminar, Andrew (the tech guy for the wiki) recommended just filling in the biography with As and spaces.

And my "real name" there is Nihimon :)

Thanks, Nihimon. Based on that, I went with Caldeathe and a rambling biography with no content. It's not like my real name isn't all over the place, or that I care about providing it. It's probably mostly because I'm most of the way down the road towards curmudgeonly.

(edit: Hopefully using "curmudgeonly" won't get me labelled as a pretentious academic.)

(edit-edit: See. That's my curmudgeonlyness coming through again.)

(edit-edit-edit: Get off of my lawn you kids!)

I registered and confirmed email. Just waiting for a reply. If someone could fast track application, Id appreciate it. :)

Goblin Squad Member

I've registered twice under different "real names", but have never gotten a confirming email. How do I kick-start the process?

Goblin Squad Member

@Jazz,

My email confirmation request went straight to my junk folder. I know because it went from 0 to 1 a few minutes after I hit send on the application. Did you check to see if yours went there?

Goblin Squad Member

Yah, I always check it before getting rid of anything, for exactly this reason.

Goblin Squad Member

And I got my application approved, yay! :)

Goblin Squad Member

I saw your account get created, Jazz, I believe. Maybe send Mark an email. My account was bugged over there at first too.

Goblin Squad Member

I also always check my spam, and have never received a response.

Goblin Squad Member

I tried a password reset on my chosen name, which appears to have done something, though it did not (yet) trigger me getting an email. I will give it a while.

(Edit: Reset mail arrived and Gmail spammed it)

Goblin Squad Member

I'm sending to my personal domain's email address, as it's the only one I use. I hope that's not somehow a problem.

Goblin Squad Member

Yeah Jazz, I am looking at your user page right now, with your personal description showing WAYYYYY too much personal info!

"abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc abc ...."

You might want to consider the ramifications of sharing that sort of information with the world wide web...

;P

EDIT: I would definitely contact either Mark or Andrew and get them to help you out.

Mark is: yoda8myhead@pathfinderwiki.com

Goblin Squad Member

Thanks, I found Mark's address by hunting out the administrators, and sent him a note. We'll see where things go.

Yup, it shares a hosting cost with pathfinderwiki.com and most of the funding for that comes from our pockets. Since pathfinderwiki uses the community use policy, we cannot make money off of it, but we added the donation button as a better option than putting adds on.

Yup, thats the best thing about a wiki - if you can't find something add it! There's even a policy stateing that titled "Be Bold!"

I think the watch only lets you know when you log in if something on your watch list has been edited it adds a box to the top of the screen alerting you.

That is correct.

Goblin Squad Member

I am starting to read PFO Wiki and trying to figure out where to start (I don't see a "learn to edit here" or "start here" link).

1- I posted in "Pfo wiki talk:PFOWikiData"; is there a post or discussion forum that compliments this?

2- I want to start taking my Paizo "reference" threads and start formatting them for this page, need to figure out tables and editing. Will it accept copy and past formats from Word or Excel?

3- Can you work on a page as a "draft" then make it "public" once you are happy with the way it looks and can other contributors alter or edit it?

More questions later...

Goblin Squad Member

Giorgo wrote:

Yes, but it won't retain any formatting (bold, italics, etc.)

Giorgo wrote:

You can make a page and only link to it from somewhere else when it's ready.

I am reading the links in the Help Pages; please bear with me as I figure things out. :)

I don't see much outreach to the PFO community here for their input into making this a community project (looks like a combination of "I don't know how to help" + "I don't understand the data" + "I am burned out from Alpha" + "let Nihimon and Dazyk do it" + "Not my thing"), so I am going to be working on that part over the next few weeks.

Yes I know the current hot topic are PVP, MVP (or not) and the "100% guaranteed certainty & obvious fact that PFO will and has failed!!!!", but I have my eyes on other areas of interest and debate... :)

Goblin Squad Member

Still got like 20 more pages to read... sigh. For the three Admins and current editors, where can I find the policy info on:

1- How much info per page (can I use short place holder text "This is where info on x will be detailed later")?

2- Usage or not of dev quotes (Ryan said "x" or "copy & paste of dev quote)?

3- Using the PFO Forum threads to discuss ideas/feedback for a PFO Wiki page entry ("In this thread we will discuss ideas for the Glossary...")?

1. There is no hard and fast rule. Think of it like an article though: Too long and meandering and you will lose your audience's attention. Too short or technical and you won't do the subject justice.

2. You can create quotes and references by using certain code. You can Google 'wiki help' to find out more.

3. We could do this, however, the ' talk' pages are probably better suited for this as it keeps all the information in one place.

Goblin Squad Member

Can anyone access the website?

I can open every page in my favorites folder, except this one. :(

This page can’t be displayed

•Make sure the web address http://pfo.pathfinderwiki.com is correct.
•Look for the page with your search engine.
•Refresh the page in a few minutes.

Goblin Squad Member

I was able to get there last night, but not right now.

Goblin Squad Member

Nihimon wrote:

Thank you for confirming. :)

Goblin Squad Member

I added a few things. Will continue to edit and format data on my next day off from work (whenever that is...). :)

Sczarni Goblin Squad Member

Yeah, the server was having problems, once we pointed it to the IP host, thy restarted the server and it came back within 5 minutes.

Giorgo, for your first question, my personal rule of thumb for the regular pathfinder wiki is anything that I can have 3 sentences on is worthy of a page.

Feel free to ask wiki questions on the pathfinderwiki.com forums here we may not all play PFO, but for the wiki stuff we've been working with the same wiki engine for up to 5 years, so we may be able to answer questions

I tried to move the list of mobs / Levels out of the online landrush spreadsheet by putting it in the wiki. My table understanding apparently has a gaping hole in it. I'd appreciate if someone could check Mob Level Values in the PFO Wiki and make it be useful.

Done.

Goblin Squad Member

Request (since I don't have access to write):

On the main page, under "Mechanics" can you create a link called "Passive Skills - from Library"

And then on the page that links to, put a list of the passive skills from the library, and how those skills affect loot drops. I think it is 5% more loot drop chance per 6 skill points, but I don't remember which mobs are affected by which skill anymore.

Goblin Squad Member

Hmm, they are already on this page:

http://pfo.pathfinderwiki.com/pw/Passive_Feats#Armor

But they should not be. Or if they are the "role" named should be "loot" or something like that instead of General.

But that doesn't seem to be the best place for those skills either.

Goblin Squad Member

The Knowledge Skills are Skills. That's why they're listed along with the other Skills under Passive Feats.

Role refers to one of the Adventurer Roles (Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Wizard) or Aristocrat, Expert, or Freeholder. My understanding is that the Role associated with a Feat will ultimately determine whether or not you get the Dedication Bonus - that is, you can only equip Feats for a single Role (plus General) to qualify for the Dedication Bonus.

Goblin Squad Member

What is the "dedication bonus"? I have not heard of this before.

Goblin Squad Member

The Dedication Bonus is an as-yet-undefined benefit you will get for only equipping Feats from a single Role (plus General). It's intended to balance pure builds against the inevitable synergies that hybrid builds will discover. In essence, the developers want to make sure you're not at a significant disadvantage for playing a pure Role that doesn't multi-class at all.

You might try contacting Mark Moreland directly.

Goblin Squad Member

Mark recently responded, on the Goblinworks boards, to my similar troubles. He asked me to contact him at mark.moreland@paizo.com, and he's been very quick to get back to me.

I would like to help with updating and maintaining the wiki. I did submit an account request. Is this something still needed? Is there someone I could follow up with?
