[PFS] Can I assist other Pathfinders during downtime?

Pathfinder Society

I have the spell Crafter's Fortune (+5 luck bonus on next Craft Skill Check, duration 24hours/level).

At the end of a scenario, can I offer to cast this (and maintain it for the downtime) on those in my scenario party to assist their day job rolls (if they are using a craft skill to determine gold earned)?

That's a very good question. From what I understand, you can apply bonuses to your Day Job if you can be assumed to have that bonus for at least 8 hours each day (the "work-day" if you will). but I don't know if this is written in the rules or was the subject of a developer post.

If you were at my table, I'd allow it. But definitely expect table variation.

I got it for myself, as the Pathfinder Guide v6 explicitly states that this bonus does work, unlike all other temporary bonuses.

I guess its up to the GM, just seems like it would be a nice bonus to hand out for putting up with me at your table ;)

I've wondered a similar thing to the OP on occasion, though not with crafter's fortune.

My wizard isn't very strong, so likes the idea of getting a pony/horse/riding dog/etc to carry all his gear [insert obligatory reference to buying a handy haversack when funds allow].

Can I buy an untrained horse/etc and ask the druid I just went adventuring with to train my horse for me in down time?

My gut feeling as a player and a GM is the answer is no, because it boarders on the transfer of wealth between players, not enough to be significant, say 50gp for buying an untrained horse and maybe 20gp for helping someone with a dayjob check, but since wealth transfer except under very very limited circumstances is a no no, then my assumption is it wouldn't be allowed.

For thematic reasons, what if the wizard/alchemist/whoever is providing crafter's fortune wanted to go adventuring a couple of weeks before the person who they were providing the spell for.

Crafter's fortune assumes you are casting it each day in your downtime, since downtime is undefined, I don't think that you could necessarily guarantee that the spell had been cast each day. Take for example both people did The Glass River rescue together, the fighter takes a break while the wizard does Destiny of the Sands and they both adventure together again in The Merchant's Wake. I know downtime is undefined, but I don't think there is any way to say that the period the wizard spent doing Destiny of the Sands didn't happen for the fighter.

...I feel like I'm about to get into the problems with time travel so I will stop there :P

Because the time between scenarios is indeterminate, the crafter's fortune may or may not be active at the time of a Day Job check. If you can cast it, you can use it yourself, campaign organizers assume it is cast every day. In short: the spell lasts a finite time (day per wizard level), where as day job checks last an indefinite time. Note that PCs can help other players in other ways, particularly useful is cure poison, raise dead, restoration. Wizards are even assumed to spend time trading spells, which can take days.

Crafters fortune is explicitly called out as being usable for dayjob checks, so it can definitely help YOUR rolls. I think its up to the dm whether you can share it with your friends for the entire indeterminate time between scenarios.

I wouldn't allow helping other characters with their day jobs. Since the time during which the day job is performed is undefined, you also can't assume the characters stick together all the time.

As for helping with afflictions, this works because these checks don't happen in the time between scenarios, but are actually part of the scenario, happening after the main plot is finished.
The same is true for training other characters' companions/pets or copying spells. Those are activities that take a defined amount of time and happen as part of the scenario, after the main plot is finished. The character who trained the pet (and which tricks he taught) is listed in the notes section and the GM initials this.
