Happy Halloween to various and sundry!
My boy started off the day happy because Darth Yeti woke him up.
Paid a visit to the newly opened Total Wine and More yesterday. I used to visit one of those when I lived in Philly. They have an excellent selection of beers, usually a couple thousand. This one was missing some favorites of mine, but I still had a good haul. And, apparently, they are taking recommendations.
Took the kids trick-or-treating last night. I was disappointed that many of my neighbors did not give out candy. F!&+ing pussies.
The kids had fun, at least. And we got plenty of trick or treaters. I used up most of my candy.
And so, today begins the task of taking down the Halloween decorations. I may try to get my lawn guy out to give the grass one last cut before I put my Thanksgiving decorations up.
Of course, the turkey day decorations are far less involved than Halloween or Christmas, consisting of a single, decorative pumpkin and a giant, inflatable turkey.
Speaking of giant inflatables. Lowe's had a giant (probably about 20 feet tall) inflatable teddy bear. It even looked to be kind of "furry".
I'd have bought it, if I didn't think my wife would murder me in my sleep.
Little known fact - when I search for "Weird News Stories", I try to find something that would make me question whether or not I had been given strong drugs.
My baby girl had a tummy ache, so she insisted on putting a Band-Aid on her tummy.
Go Cubs! It's down to the f**@ing wire! Game 7 tonight!
I figure, at this point, win or lose, Chicago is going to burn.
At least, parts of it.
Congratulations to the Chicago Cubs on an impressive and long-awaited World Series championship!
Also, condolences to the folks in charge of Major League Baseball. I seriously doubt you'll ever see World Series ratings this good ever again.
Apparently, Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake performed at the Country Music Awards last night. Further proof that what used to be Country Music is now just some half-assed extension of pop music. Very sad.
In other news, apparently the CMA's were on TV last night.
Making my plans to go see Doctor Strange tomorrow. I'll probably hit the 1030 am showing.
I gotta say, though, I also have a strong desire to see Hacksaw Ridge. It looks to be a truly inspiring film.
Out for my morning constitutional, and a thought occurred to me: How awesome it would be to have a sequel to the movie PCU. You could bring back the original cast and call it PCW (as in "World"). There sure is enough crap for them to work with these days.
Sadly, I don't think anyone in Hollywood would have the balls to make such a movie.

Woot! Got my ticket for Doctor Strange tomorrow morning!
Sometimes, I enjoy allowing my inner smart ass to come out and play.
Okay, more than "sometimes".
I've been trying to get mine to come in out of the rain for ages now.
Finished off a great Friday relaxing on the sofa, drinking a few beers, and watching first Dracula, then The Mummy (both from my Universal Classic Monsters collection. I love Lugosi, but for me Karloff will always be king.

Of course, with no disrespect intended towards Christopher Lee.
Other than grocery shopping, I have no clue what to do with my day today.
At least the phones and computer turn themselves back....
We left the gate at the top of the stairs open last night, and plan to take the gate down later today. This will allow the boy to not bother calling out to us (and waking his sister up) early in the morning when he wants to come downstairs.
Of course, now we just have to make sure he learns it's not okay to come downstairs at 2 am to sleep on the sofa.
Actually watched a bit of football today. The boy liked it. The girl, of course, did not.
Baby girl referred to her stuffed- animal Rudolph as her "precious". I am both proud and a bit worried.
Going to be a busy week.
I'm hoping to get some s$!& cleaned out and/or packed up and stored in the attic. That'll likely necessitate a visit to Lowe's for a sheet of plywood or two. I lay them across the joists in my garage attic (same way my dad did) so that I have more room stack things.
Tomorrow I'll vote and we've got parent/teacher conference for the boy in the morning. As well, I'll be watching my brother's three kids tomorrow afternoon while he and his wife go to the same parent/teacher conference event for their two oldest.
The remainder of the week will be filled with the usual - job hunting, household chores, etc.
I'm even tempted to try and fit in another viewing of Doctor Strange along the way.....
First, however, a little "breakfast".....
Enjoying a delicious Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout. Picked up that and some other beers from them on a visit to the new Total Wine and More. It's been one of my favorite brewers for several years now, ever since a buddy from back in Philly introduced me to their India Pale Ale.
That reminds me - I've got another coupon for two free stemless wine glasses. The wife already picked up two using a coupon from the mail. Then I got another coupon. So I've got to make my way over their and pick up the second pair.
I'm also going to bring a list of recommendations for their beer section.
Good luck on the job hunt!!!
Parent-Teacher conferences are being held at the boy's school today. Seriously, though, do we really need to talk for 20 MINUTES about how my kid's doing in Kindergarten. It's f&ing Kindergarten.
At some point I have to make my way over to the grocery store for more grapes. I alternate between that and blueberries for the boy's school lunches. And daddy needs more Blue Bell Vanilla Ice Cream.
Damn but the kids were cranky this morning. I blame not getting a good night's sleep. You can't make them get one, though.
At least, as an adult, I can supplement my lack of a good night's sleep with coffee.
My boy is doing pretty good in school, according to his teacher. She says he's really good at math, which I was hoping for. The only spots he needs work on are penmanship (alas, he inherited the Abercrombie bad-writing curse) and reading (mostly in being able to relay stories back and discuss various literary elements).
Since my usual three TV shows weren't on last night, the wife and I watched The Martian. Such a great movie.
I have heard that the book is even better.
That is correct. Especially if you're in to science and engineering.

The Martian was a good movie, agreed.
HAven't read the book yet,
My teenage daughter particularly enjoyed it.
Not surprising, since she has been to Space Camp 3 times and loved it. She wants to go back again, but that stuff aint cheap.
She is also in the soon to be released (I thought it would have been out by now?!?) Documentary that they filmed the last time she was at Space Camp.
It is called "The Mars Generation" and it is all about how this generation will be the ones that actually go to Mars. They filmed the majority of it at her session of Space Camp, and liked her group because they were having the most fun and being loud and interactive.
IE= Interesting stuff to film. ;)
If you get to watch it, Look for the teenage girl with the extremely long blonde hair, and probably being silly or singing broadway show tunes. That'll be her. :)

Is your daughter thinking of a career in science or engineering?
I was talking to a buddy of mine back in Philadelphia, and found out one of my former co-workers is getting a promotion to a position in Sasebo, Japan. So I called the guy up and congratulated him. He's a good kid, a great engineer, and a hard worker.
Plus, he gets to go live in Japan. If I were single, I'd have jumped all over that.
So that ends up being more good news today. I like good news.
Visited Total Wine and More today to take advantage of another coupon for free stemless wine glasses. While there, I gave the beer folk some recommendations - including Wychwood's Hobgoblin. It's been so long since I had any, I've been tempted to brew my clone version again.
G%%##@nit! I forgot today was bulk trash pick-up! There was s$*+ I needed to put out.
Oh well, there's always December.
