"Mating call."

Scarab Sages

Going back to Legend of Tarzan, there was a bit role played by some British dude, and I knew him from somewhere. Then it hit me...

...It was Simon Russell Beale, who played one of my favorite characters from the Penny Dreadful series - Ferdinand Lyle!

Scarab Sages

And I'm still pissed the showrunners cancelled that series. I really wanted to see them all go down to Egypt and fight Imhotep.

Scarab Sages

I kept wondering "Why is that arrow getting closer?"

And then it hit me.

Scarab Sages

Happy Friday to one and all*!

*Even the people I don't really like.

Don't sell your soul, Aberzombie! Besides, I doubt you would get much for it.

You used to be an engineer until you took an arrow to the knee?

Have fun! My internet is still out so I can't bug you when I get home.

What is this "soul" of which you speak?

Sadly, "used to be an engineer" is all too accurate these days.

Just got finished watching The Legend of Tarzan, with Alexander Skarsgard. Pretty f$#%ing cool movie. Lots of action. Great special effects. Good story. Great acting. A worthy successor to the Tarzan movies I remember from my youth.

100% agreed.

Actually one of the few movies I got to go and see in the theater with the wife. (Monkey isn't the ONLY poor late-middle-aged person still here!) ;P

It was a good flick, lots of action and adventure as befits a Tarzan movie, lots of interesting character development too.

And as the Zombie said, it made me feel like I was watching an old Tarzan flick as a kid again.

Wizard highly recommends, if you like that sort of thing. :)

Some of it is even mine.

Some of it may or may not be children's books that are really f!~&ing annoying.

You might be amazed at how many of those are out there.

Um,... All of them?!? ;P

(Speaking as husband of a teacher who also likes to happen to collect childrens books. Our kids are 17 & 13, and she still won't get rid of them!) :P

Scarab Sages

T'was a fairly Happy Friday all around. The boy finished off his school week with all good marks. Family movie night was Wall-E (a fantastic movie). Finally, both kids went to bed with a minimum of fuss.

Next up, mayhap some Diablo III.

Scarab Sages

Weird dream last night.

To start, there was a magic rat who kept trying to get in the house. Every time I started smacking at him with a broom, he'd run away while shrinking - first down to the size of a mouse, then down to the size of a lady bug.

Second, a rattlesnake had taken up residence in my garage. I was working on the pumpkin for Halloween, and kept hearing this weird noise. It wasn't until the wife came out that we realized it was the snake. Then he kept chasing us every time we'd get near him.

It zounds as if you are vorried about ze safety uf your houzehold. Ze animals invading your borders represent fears uf problems descending upon your house .Zome problems become smaller ven you face zem , uthers are harder to discover, and more dangerous.

Scarab Sages

Yeah, but...magic shrinking mouse? WTF?!?

Scarab Sages

Normally, I love it when my baby girl wakes me up on the weekends, because it means warm hugs and kisses from my sweet pea. Not this morning, however! She interrupted a kick-ass Star Wars dream, complete with Luke Skywalker kicking ass!

Scarab Sages

Also, HAPPY SUNDAY!

Scarab Sages

Used my rotisserie for the first time in forever yesterday, and then remembered why. It's just not as effective as the first one I had.

Still, the food was good.

Scarab Sages

Came across a nice turn of phrase....."Miss the point of a pencil".

My turkey soup became more of a turkey stew...still pretty darn good. I do need some oyster crackers to go with though

Scarab Sages

Found out yesterday my former employer has laid people off yet again. At this rate, the company may not be able to recover along with the rest of the industry.

Still, this pretty much confirms something I've been suspecting - the overwhelming number of layoffs (over 75% of the workforce), isn't just due to the downturn. There's been some bad management decisions.

Scarab Sages

There was a cat outside the house this morning. It was overly friendly and attempting to hang out with us while we were trying to get the kids in the car. Then, as the wife started to go back inside, the cat ran to catch up to her, prompting me to shout out a warning that it might be trying to get inside.

When I got back from dropping the kids off at school, the cat was still outside, sitting on the bench outside my front door. I haven't checked in a bit, so I don't know if it's still out there.

Scarab Sages

Needless to say, I will in no way allow the little hell beast into my home. And I'll call animal control if it keeps hanging out and trying to get inside.

Scarab Sages

1 person marked this as a favorite.

In case it's not yet clear.....I do not like cats.

Scarab Sages

Except for the one I had in high school, Stiffy. He was my Honors Anatomy and Physiology Class cat.

Him I liked.

Scarab Sages

I had considered brewing a beer today, but the recipe kit I had contained some expired stuff. Oh well.

Scarab Sages

I think, instead, I'll skip a recipe kit and just brew something out of one of my books. May that Young's Double Chocolate Stout clone. I made that one, a few years back, and it came out pretty good.

Scarab Sages

Plus, I love stouts.

Scarab Sages

When I drink them, I feel like I'm channeling my inner dwarf.

Scarab Sages

There is a program they do at the boy's school called Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students). The dad (or dads) come out to school and spend all day, helping out in various areas, and even getting to spend time with their kid(s).

I finally took the plunge and signed up for a day to go, the Friday before Halloween.

Scarab Sages

Apparently, some very enthusiastic dads sign up once each month. I think I'll follow my younger brother's example and just do maybe once a year.

Scarab Sages

I don't really like kids enough to do more than that.

Scarab Sages

My Diablo III efforts are moving along nicely. I've already beat the game once with my Monk. I'm on the Act V with my Barbarian character. And I'm nearly done with Act II with my Wizard character.

Scarab Sages

I've got the Barbarian and Wizard currently set to "Hard" difficulty, which is still pretty easy.

My Monk (in adventure mode) is currently set to "Master", which is also still pretty easy.

Scarab Sages

And I've got all but one ingredient needed to craft a Staff of Herding. This staff is needed to gain access to the secret level of Whimsyshire, where your character can do battle with Unicorns, Teddy Bears, and Smiling Sunflowers.

Scarab Sages

Whoa! I'm in a mini-blitz. I remember those.

Scarab Sages

Better times.

Scarab Sages

I should probably get my second cup of coffee.

Scarab Sages

And some "breakfast".

Scarab Sages

Apparently, the new Wolverine movie will have an older Logan going up against Donald Pierce and the Reavers.

I hope they make them cyborgs.

Scarab Sages

All right, I guess that's enough.

Scarab Sages

Thought it was going to rain on my during my morning constitutional, but I got lucky. Instead, the sun came out.

Going back to this, I'm a little peeved the final ingredient is proving so damned stubborn to acquire. It's basically a crap shoot whether the location you need to get the item from will show up, and another crap shoot whether the chest containing the item will appear.

Very annoying.

What little like of kids I have is being rapidly worn away by having to drive them home from school..

Oh sweet Jeebus now I know why all my bus drivers were so crabby

Scarab Sages

I got the liquid rainbow. The staff of herding is crafted. Soon Whimsyshire shall feel my bearded wrath.

Scarab Sages

There was bacon....and no kids to share it with! Huzzah!

Scarab Sages

Parent's night out courtesy of daycare. The wife and I went to see the new Ben Affleck movie, The Accountant. Very entertaining, and with a few surprising twists and turns.

What manner of game are you camping liquid rainbow in? You know that stuff is illegal in seven imaginary countries.

It's Diablo 3. The liquid is one of the ingredients needed to craft the Staff of Herding, which then allows you to access the secret level of Whimyshire and battle unicorns, teddy bears, and anthropomorphic sunflowers.
