So i am contemplating on subscribing for the PACG...however i would just like to know if i can skip a step here and there if i pick up the item being shipped next ahead of time (i.e. im going to GenCon and i will most definitely be grabbing the new big box there so i can start playing asap)...so after i subscribe can i click a button or something of that matter to notify paizo to just wait till the next item to ship to me?
Yeah, you definitely want to go with the subscription pickup option at GenCon. It guarantees you will get one as long as you pick it up by Saturday. It will just be sitting there, waiting for you. No need to wait in a long line, come back later when its shorter.
Also, if you skip one, you'll miss the promo cards.

If you are already a subscriber and do not want the base set for Skull & Shackles sent to you as part of your subscription, you will need to cancel after deck 6 of Rise of the Runelords ships. We are working on a way for people to easily (re)subscribe with just the Character Add-On Deck as our current subscription set up complicates this.
Paizo's policies for subscriptions is that you cannot skip an item, you have to fully cancel your subscription and then restart if you do not want a particular release in the subscription line. This is not changing. You can cancel by emailing customer.service@paizo.com, phone (M-F 10am-5pm PST) or over on the customer service forums. All you have to do is let us know you want to cancel (you don't have to tell us why, but we do note the reason if you choose to).

The plan is that doing what you describe would not result in missing promo cards. The promo cards are based on month, not items in a subscription. The base set and character add-on both ship in August. So whether you get both or just one, you would get the August promo.

I just wanted to chime in that I really appreciate that friendly and kind attitude of pretty much everyone on this forum. It's great to be able to get a humorous response or to be wrong about something and not be taken to task for it. It's a great community attitude/environment.

Yea I've noticed that. This is one of maybe 3 or 4 sites I know of where the community is truly fantastic. I see at least one question nearly every day about things most people would consider simple and obvious, but not once has anyone ever treated someone worse for it. I hope to see the trend continue when we inevitably get more members once S&S and Organized Play begin.
Although to be fair, I don't think you have experience in the "being wrong" portion of these forums lol
Oh, I've been wrong quite a few times.
I was wrong about Lini being able to recharge an ally she discarded for her power when I played her the first time. (Though I'm not sure I posted that one on the forum.)
I was wrong about Valeros and recharging a weapon like the Dogslicer.
I was wrong about looking at cards when you play Cure.
I'm sure there are lots of others too.
I've got no problem with admitting I'm nowhere near infallible when it comes to PACG. That is why being part of such a great community is so awesome. We can all help each other.
This information is good to know - likely I will do the same thing because that's a big old box to be posting to the UK! Sara Marie, the sooner you can find a more permanent solution, the better :)
Yes cancelled my subscription due to posting to UK. Just waiting to start it again with S+S character add-on.
Does anyone know what the shipping costs are for a base set to the UK? It says on the website that we can add to cart, and see the details before we add payment details / confirm, but whilst this seems to work fine if I say I want to start with Adventure 6 of RotR, when I set it to Skulls & Shackles base, it just won't show the shipping costs.
It's something in the region of $50 if I recall correctly.
Try adding the RotR base set to your cart to check the shipping cost. They should be pretty much the same.
Looks like the option to start a subscription with the Character Add-On deck is live now.
