shield bash with two weapon defense

Rules Questions

if i use my shield as off hand weapon in full attack with two weapon fighting AND two weapon defense feats, do i still lose the ac from shield for next round. is a shield considered an off hand weapon for twd, granting me the ac shield bonus? think this is going to be mostly gm discretion but im wondering if this has been clarified officially.

Two-Weapon Defense grants a +1 Shield Bonus to AC

A Heavy Shield grants a +2 Shield Bonus to AC and can be enchanted further[but for this, lets say it isn't +1 or higher].

Making a Shield Bash attack without improved shield bash causes you to lose your shield's shield bonus to AC.

Shields are weapons, can be enhanced as weapons, and are eligible for weapon-specific feats.

So, conclusion time:If you are Two-Weapon Fighting with a Shield and a Sword, with the Two-Weapon Fighting Feat and the Two-Weapon Defense Feat, and without the Improved Shield Bash feat, the Shield does threaten as a weapon, but if you attack with the shield you lose it's bonus to AC and resort to TWD's +1.

That said, I believe that for this sort of a build taking Improved Shield Bash is flat-out superior to TWD.

The shield bonus comes from the feat(two weapon defense), and you get that +1 no matter what at long as you are two weapon fighting.

Now if you are asking do you get the shield bonus from the shield itself, then you need to get improved shield bash, which allows you to keep the shield bonus from the shield that is being used during the attack.

Key word is shield bonus, which is a type if bonus which can't stack. So if you lost your ac from your shield from bashing, regardless if you did so as a off hand, the feat will cover your shield bonus to the +1 it grants.

The awful word "wield" is included in this feat.

Anyways, whenever you use your shield to bash you lose your ac. I think what you want is improved shield bash, and not to take two weapon defense because it'll be useless.

Every avatar has had a cloak on thus far in this thread. Winter is coming.

Rapanuii is correct. If you were trying to get the shield bonus from your shield and the TWD feat, they don't stack.

You have two choices.

You can take the improved shield bash which preserves your shield bonus.

OR you can take two weapon defense.

Two weapon defense grants a shield bonus which overlaps, but does not stack any shield bonus you preserve from your shield.

So if you're going to be a sword and shield fighter, there is no point to taking the two weapon defense feat.

i dual wield throwing axes but occasionally i like to throw one and then close and bust out the shield. just cuz its just dope lookin as all heck. so this way way i can still use full attack for two attacks with the shield and at least not lose out my ac too bad.
