Oracle's Star Chart

Dark Archive

Ordinarily "Commune" costs 500gp to cast, however am I right in saying that an Oracle with this revelation (Heavens) can do it once per day at no cost?

Star Chart (Ex): Your copious notes contain a working model of the night sky expressed in artistic scribbles and arcane mathematical formulae. Once per day, you may spend 10 minutes contemplating your star chart to gain the benefit of the spell commune. You must be at least 7th level to select this revelation.

Seems pretty good to me :-)

Incidentally, anyone care to express an opinion on how this clause from the Commune spell should be interpreted in this case:

The answers given are correct within the limits of the entity's knowledge. “Unclear” is a legitimate answer, because powerful beings of the Outer Planes are not necessarily omniscient.

There are quite a few ways to circumvent the cost of Commune. Several of the Improved Familiars can do it as a spell-like ability. But the Star Chart is one of the best.

Normally you'd address your Commune spell to your patron deity. Not all oracles have a clear patron deity though; you can have a Mystery without a clear deity granting it. I'd say that's just like a cleric of an ideal, not a deity.

So would an abstract Mystery know stuff? I don't know. I guess that would depend on the quest. "Will doing this get me in trouble with you, Oh Mystery?" is something the Mystery would know. "What is Asmodeus up to?" is less likely to get a useful answer, because the Mystery of Heavens might not know.

GM fiat some stuff May be clear later or pehaps you need to consult the southend hemispheres Stars for that question.
I find the revalation a bit silly because it assumes a Big load of notes on the stars. But often the art of divination in the nigth sky requier several books to be accurate for modern and ancient belivers.
