Named armors and barding

Want to make sure I'm calculating this right, if it's even allowed. I want to buy the snake scale armor (from serpent's skull) as barding for a medium creature. First off, can this be done? Or are unique armors for humanoids only?

Next, cost. It is a +1 scale mail made of hardened snakeskin scales that counts as light armor. It normally costs 8900gp.

Scale mail is normally medium armor that costs 50gp. Barding doubles the cost to 100gp. Masterwork would add 150, but we can assume that and whatever enchantments make it special stay the same. So the final cost should be 8950, correct?

I would say no that is not correct.

From what you said if we back out the +1... Snakeskin scales would cost 6900 before enchanting. I would double that to 13800 and then add back the 2k for a total of 15800.

That's absurd. But I didn't post the full text of the armor, so my fault I guess. I'll go with a simpler one.

Mistmail. 2250 for a +1 chain shirt that can turn into fog once a day. If it's allowed as barding, it should come to 200 for the shirt (twice regular), so a total of 2350.
