Avoiding UPS Mail Innovations

Is there a way to ensure that my packages don't go through UPS Mail Innovations? Both packages I have been sent thru this mailing system have been lost. UPS claims no responsibility. The USPS claims no responsibility. Both insist that my only option is to go back thru y'all, and I don't think it's fair to Paizo. I'd really like to avoid this service in the future.

I ship via UPS ground delivery...and haven't had any problems since I switched.

I'd like to keep something along the lines of "cheapest option *other than* UPS mail innovations".

UPS ground is great. USPS is fine. UPS mail innovations is a +5 destroyer of packages.

That service literally has no tracking. They really don't know where your packages are. The cheap rate comes with the understanding by the shipper that this will happen and ups/usps will not care. In fact, the service has in its details that it will destroy shipments that have labeling errors rather than send them back or forward them. But, it is super cheap and good for the environment!

I asked one of their senior managers if there was anything I could do to ensure that I received my packages in the future, other than boycotting UPSMI and suggesting that others do the same. He was unable to answer.

I am very irritated by the whole thing. My wife has also ordered two things that were to be delivered thru UPSMI, both of which have also been lost. I imagine I'm just hugely unlucky, and that I'm seeing patterns in things where they don't belong, but 0 for 4 over a course of 6 weeks has pretty much burned that company for me.

Wrath is my favorite sin. So up side, this gets me plenty to work with - down side, it exacerbates my high blood pressure.

Anyhow, again, I love Paizo, I'm not going to stop ordering from them - I just never want another dollar of mine going directly or indirectly to UPSMI.

Hey Shining,

Mail Innovations is a subsidiary company of UPS, and operate by delivering packages to postal offices local to the recipient who then fulfill the final step of the packages delivery. On occasion they may deliver it to a postal office a ways away who should then forward the package to your local postal office for delivery. Packages shipped through UPSMI should be trackable all the way up to the point where its transferred to a postal office, at which point the postal office may not be able to provide additional tracking information.

My best recommendation would be to check the available shipping methods for your next subscription shipment on your My Subscriptions page. When you toggle between the shipping method the shipping costs should calculate in real time for your upcoming subscription and sidecarted items, letting you determine preemptively what shipping method should be best for you each month.

If your books are arriving with significant damage I would encourage you to shoot us an email at customer.service@paizo.com with pictures of the damaged books. We take the quality of our products seriously, both in their production and in the quality they arrive at your location. :)

If I understand correctly, his issue is "destroyed" as in "obliterated entirely from the known reaches of the multiverse at a molecular level" ;)

The OP mentions "lost" shipments, with neither side accepting responsibility for the botched hand off. UPSMI says "we gave it to USPS" and USPS says "we never received it from UPSMI." Both sides point the finger at the other and neither accepts responsibility.

Skeld has it right.

The particular shipment is for AP 77, which y'all already sent a replacement for once because it never reached me. I don't think it's right to ask for a third copy of an item that UPS and the USPS keep losing, so I'll stick with my digital copy. I guess I'll also revise my shipping options from cheapest option to something else - I just wish I could choose cheapest option excluding the one crummy option that occasionally pops up.

Edit: I'm pretty sure it's AP 77 - it's definitely the second to last volume of wrath of the righteous - but I'm on my phone at the moment and checking is a pain.

If you choose UPS, it will go only by UPS. If you choose Priority, it will go only via USPS.

Rgr Vic, thank you - I've now updated to default to UPS ground. Could I please get Order 3039688 swapped to UPS ground as well? I can't find a way to change that one. (perhaps because it is already pending?)

Lantern Lodge Customer Service Dire Care Bear Manager

I've changed the pending order to UPS ground and put a replacement of 77 in the order as well. Please let us know if your packages still have issues.

thanks

I had a similar situation happen with my copy of Rappan Athuk back in January. Though I was more inclined to believe the USPS when they said that they didn't receive it, because of the simple fact that UPS-MI didn't update the tracking for 5 days and then tossed a retroactive update on to cover their butts. The update on Jan. 10th said it was ready for post office entry, but then there were no more updates and the USPS had no record of it. Then, on the 16th, UPS-MI changed their tracking to say that they handed it off to the USPS on the 11th, with the USPS still not acknowledging receipt. Any time I see a retroactive update like that, it makes me suspicious. Because that's a shady way of doing things.

A little over a week later the package got returned to Paizo, after having been shredded to pieces. At least it didn't vanish into the aether, but it was still a very disappointing experience. Thankfully, Paizo customer service was quick about remedying the situation, and even cracked a joke about the state that the book was returned to them in. I bet Erik was secretly crying inside after seeing such a magnificent book torn to pieces though. The joke was probably just some black humor to lighten the somber mood.

Thank you all very much for your assistance with this. Customer service like this is one reason I am loyal to Paizo, and the reason I am always floored when I see threads saying y'all have been horrible/tyrants/etc.

I look forward to our continued business and, انشاء اللہ, UPSMI will not be as problematic for other users as it has been for me.
