Legendary / Mythic / Epic

Product Discussion

So, after some perusal, I've come across various things regarding Legendary levels, items, etc., and what I am wondering is this:

How do these things mesh and/or synergize with the Mythic rules? Are they completely different animals, are they compatible, does it all work out in the end...?

I am a bit on the fence regarding purchases of some of these things, and I'd appreciate input from persons who have experience in these systems. Thanks!

The Legendary Treasure series by Purple Duck Games has nothing to do with the mythic rules. We used the term Legendary Weapon, Legendary Armor, Legendary Item back in 2010. Dreamscarred Press also our terminology for weapons and items that increase in power alongside the wielder. Since that time the Mythic rules have come out and also used the term Legendary Weapon, Legendary Armor, and Legendary Item. Our approaches are completely different and do not mesh together at all.

We also have a series called Legendary Classes... but its name simply came for the fact that we were already using the term Legendary on several releases and we just continued the trend. Again no intention to mesh with Mythic in anyway.

Epic typically refers to 3X material (pre-Pathfinder) for advancement beyond 20th level.

Legendary Levels is a creation of Little Red Goblin Games. It was an effort to do "epic" (20+ level) before Mythic was announced.

If you are looking for Mythic content then:
- None of Purple Duck Games's Legendary series not be of use.
- Legendary Levels by Little Red Goblin Games will not be of use.

I may be wrong about Little Red Goblins Games's book and they can feel free to correct me.

If you are looking for Mythic-specific content you should look to Rogue Genius Games and Legendary Games as they are both actively supporting the Mythic rules right now.

Yes, at Legendary Games we have over 20 products available designed to expand and complement the mythic rules, and we are currently preparing for a Kickstarter to fund creation of not one, not Two, but THREE hardcover expansions for the mythic rules!

Of course, just to make things confusing, Legendary Games has no connection to Legendary Levels from Purple Duck Games! :)

Rogue Genius Games has five pdfs of Mythic rules, includng some very short and inexpensive options, and the bigger book of Mythic versions of every Core Rulebook feat that didn't get a mythic upgrade in Mythic Adventures.

The base theme of PFRPG is generally a high fantasy (lots of magic, readily available magic items, etc.) Mythic kinda boosts it a little more (think the tales of Hercules versus some of the more gritty fantasy tales out there) and is able to be used while leveling 1-20 (and beyond for that matter).

As stated above "epic" refers to levels past the normal 1-20 leveling experience, levels 21+. And often is something that is difficult to quantify in mechanics as each group is so different and the CR system pretty much breaks down completely at that high level of play.

Well, that certainly helps :) Are the approaches used in the Legendary Treasures so vastly different as to be 'nonconvertible'?

& with regards to the KS from Legendary Games- I'm eagerly awaiting the launch :)

I'm not necessarily looking 'solely' for Mythic content, but was mostly curious as to how these various legendary things work.

Drop me a message Changing Man and I will get you a copy of our legendary treasures line if you want.

As I read them...

[Paizo]
The Legendary Item rules by Paizo are tied directly into the mythic concept. In order to "activate" a legendary weapon you must select the (legendary item universal path ability) and then you get a number of abilities added to the item up to your mythic level (3/6/10). Because you need to select this ability multiple times to unlock the weapon/armor/item completely. Each legendary item has a number of uses per day. The item is bond to you so no one else can access the legendary power.

[Purple Duck]
From Legendary IX: Legends of Antiquity (the last in the series).

Advancement
• All legendary treasures have a base power level that is usually a +1 armor, +1 weapon or a basic wondrous item.
• The legendary treasures listed have requirements needed to attune them to the wielder.
• Legendary treasure advance in item level if the wielder has met the items requirements and reached the appropriate character level.
• Legendary treasure vary in power but typically have between 5 and 10 levels of advancement.
• Any spell-like abilities gained through the use of this legendary treasure are based on the wielder’s highest mental characteristic (Int, Wis, or Cha).
• Spell-like abilities are standard actions to activate that draw attacks of opportunity unless noted otherwise.
• Abilities that allow for saves that are not spell-like are based on (10 + 1/2 wielder’s hit dice + highest mental characteristic).
• The caster level required for any effects of the legendary treasure are based on the wielder’s total Hit Dice.
• Feats gained by the wielder of a legendary treasure can be used to meet prerequisites for other feats and prestige classes as long as the character possesses the treasure.

Variant Rule - Jealousy: All legendary weapons are jealous of the power they lend to their wielders. Once a wielder has met the requirements to use a legendary weapon and unlocked its second-level abilities that weapon forms a bond with the wielder. If the wielder uses another melee weapon in combat he suffers a -4 penalty on attack and damage rolls. Ranged weapon do not provoke jealousy from legendary melee weapons, but they will provoke jealousy in other ranged weapons.

With our legendary weapons you need to meet requirements to "bond" with the item's historic past and then it levels up alongside you. There is only a one-time investment.

Our first Legendary book - Legendary I: Legendary Blades I believe made it on to both Endz's and Dark Mistress's top 10 products for the year a couple years ago.
