Class ability switches and fairness / function.

Homebrew and House Rules

I was curious how people feel about switching out class abilities for others and if they are fair switches. More specifically I was talking to my dm and I felt that the ninja class would be better suited with the monk ac ability instead of light armor proficiency and poison use as I detest all the poisons that are published and view their use as pointless. He said he was not sure that that switch was warranted and might be overly powerful.

I just wanted to see how others would feel about that switch and if anyone had any suggestions.

Thank you.

I also had a question about accuracy when it comes to weight and weapon types. If a weapon was historically a slashing/piercing weapon but in game it is only marked as a slashing weapon and it weighs twice as much as it does IRL is it wrong to ask for it to be changed?

Ninjas with monk AC bonus instead of light armor?

We did this very thing with the Ascetic Acrobat. Hope it helps. :)

As for asking about changing weapon damage types... Well, asking is never wrong... ;)

Verdant Wheel

maybe if it's just Wisdom to AC, without the +1 at 4/8/12/16/20...

omg are you going to keep CHA governing ki pool?

another idea is to keep monk AC as is, and shift back Sneak Attack and Ninja Tricks all a single level (SA at 'evens' 2/4/6/8..., NT at 'odds' 3/5/7/9...)

Welllll, if you check out the Ascetic Acrobat linked above, you'll see that's kinda what Elghinn Lightbringer did - though the progressions are swapped - SA at 1/3/7/9/13/15/19 and NT at 2/6/810/14/18. There are a few other ability swaps that changed the progressions. Anyway, something to look at... ;)

It's funny that you posted this, as I was contemplating asking my DM if my Oracle could trade out some of the revelations she would gain for bardic performances (kinda like the Evangelist Cleric archetype)- but I have no idea how to balance it to make it both fair and worthwhile.

@Lady Ladile - By all means take a look at the Multiclass Archetypes wiki for over one hundred class options and be sure to check our creative guidelines. Or bring your Oracle/Bard idea to our current working thread HERE. We can bump you up the queue to work out some performance for revelation swaps... doesn't have to be a multiclass archetype, just a quick discussion of the relative swaps for certain performances for how many revelations...

I did not even know about the Ascetic Acrobat. Thank you so much for pointing this out. I will ask my dm about using this.
