Small sized aasimar (halfling) questions

Rules Questions

Hi, everyone! First post!

We're soon to start a new Pathfinder campaign. I'm building an archaeologist, and although I fancied aasimars, I decided to make it a halfling. But now I've seen that aasimars need not to be human, but can also be halflings! So I was thinking about building an azata-blooded (musetouched) halfling aasimar, which would actually fit quite well with my character's background of travelling with a Varisian caravan.

According to the rules, all statistics stay the same with the exception of size, which changes to small. What does having a small size exactly entail? I imagine bonuses to attack/AC apply, and also carrying capacity. Skill bonuses to stealth also? And I guess a speed penalty too? I can't find it in the rules...

Besides, aasimars have an alternate racial trait called "Scion of Humanity", which lets them look human and count as a human for race-related effects. If I'm a halfling aasimar, would that same racial trait let me look like a halfling and count as one for race-related effects?

If so, is the bard favored class option an effect? I would like to get the aasimar's option for bards, but I wonder if I could with the aforementioned alternate racial trait.

I hope those are not too many questions! Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Officially, no, it very specifically is for those in whom human heritage is especially strong, and specifically states that you count as a human for all race-related effects, not halfling, or anything else.

However, as a houserule, I would allow it, but then, I (obviously houseruling more at this point) would probably have halfling (and other non-human) aasimars be different from human born ones in other ways as well (I always liked the variant planetouched in 3.5, which were descended from elves, orcs, etc...).

Really depends on what your DM allows. Of course it wouldn't be Scion of Humanity at that point, but Scion of Halflings or something like that.

Well, the differences between medium and small would be...

AC/Attack +1
CMB/CMD -1
Fly Skill +2
Stealth Skill +4

Weapons have a smaller damage die.

As for movement speed? I think you actually remain at 30ft. Although I think this is where it may fall under GM discretion, because I don't think you can use a Halfling Aasimar in PFS anyway? So there's probably no official ruling on how non-human aasimar would work.

EDIT: And yeah, small characters have 3/4's of normal carrying capacity. Although the weight of your weapons and armor will be cut in half.

Thank you very much for your answers!

Can anyone confirm if small aasimars are illegal in PFS? We have a house rule that only lets us use PFS legal stuff (except for the 12 level cap), so if halfling aasimars are not PFS legal then I can forget about this concept altogether...

PS: No movement penalty really seems odd... do tiny aasimars (I would asume they exist, even if they are not playable) move 30 ft also? Weird.

Small sized aasimars are an "optitional" rule & I don't believe are allowed in PFS. You can download the PFS rules/allowances from the Paizo website to double check if required.

Lantern Lodge

From Blood of Angels:

"Not all aasimars are descended from humans. Aasimars can be born of any intelligent race, though human aasimars are the most common. Aasimars of other races usually exemplify the ideals of beauty and skill as seen by their base race. For example, halfling aasimars are small, beautifully proportioned, and display exceptional grace. ...

Non-human aasimars have the same statistics as human aasimars with the exception of size. Thus a halfling aasimar is Small but otherwise possesses the same statistics and abilities as a human aasimar—the difference is purely cosmetic."

UNFORTUNATELY, I don't think Halfling Aasimars are allowed for PFS play. You can look at the additional resources page and see what's allowed from Blood of Angels (I did). It doesn't say one way or the other, so I assume it's not. The other source would be the Advanced Race Guide, but that book doesn't talk about small aasimars, so the PFS additional resources don't allow for it. Even if allowed, remember that you'd need to bring a copy of Blood of Angels.

And yes, they move at 30' (there are many examples, including Halflings, of small creatures with 30' move, so this isn't an "unreal" stretch).
