Best zombie rpg / Shooter for XBOX360

Video Games

Broke out Left for Dead last night for XBOX 360 after shelving it for a long time. I'm now looking for shooter/RPG that has zombies in it and looking for community advice on some games

I played fallout 3 which had ghoul's and monsters and i liked that i could switch between first and 3rd person plus as a RPG was fun

How does Dead Island/riptide stack up against left for dead and does it have enough RPG to be satisfying?

Does Fallout New Vegas have enough Ghouls in it or will i mostly go up against human factions/super mutants

Any other recomendations. I'm a big walking dead fan but i've heard that the game is really about choices that influence combat and it may not be what im looking for

Have you played Dead Rising? If not, you should probably play Dead Rising.

Dead Island can be somewhat glitchy and the rpg features don't seem too amazing imo, most of them being flat numbers. Most fun with friends. I prefer left for dead myself, but I don't think I'd ever think of L4D for RPG stuffs. They feel like 2 different games to me though.

There are mostly humans in New Vegas. Mutants and Ghouls are definitely in the minority. There are probably mods that add more areas with zombies though, if you get for PC. I know there were some zombie survival mods but I forget if any of them were worth it or not. I know monster mod added mostly zombies and mutants.

Check out State of Decay - it's on Xbox or Steam for PC (MAC version coming soon as well). It has some RPG elements - although I guess you call more of a zombie apocalypse resource management game as well.

It has two modes. One is a story mode wherein you are given a basic plot to follow and certain high-points to try and accomplish to finish the story. That being said, some quests are optional and they will expire if you don't complete them within a certain time limit.

The new mode is more sandboxy - no storyline per se. However, it is based on the idea that once you have mined the area of resources and defeated the zombies, you move on to a new map. Each map is progressively harder and resources are more difficult to obtain. You can however gain "hero" survivors who are stronger, etc. The only goal is basically exploration and how long can you go.

Bottom-line is that has been really well done and can be very challenging if you screw up early. It may not be as "shootery" as Left 4 Dead or Fallout 3 though. It's more like Dead Rising in approach, but not as over the top. I would say that it does emulate the grittiness and more practical vision of Walking Dead.

Dead Rising/2 is a definite must try.

I actually really like Dead Island and Riptide, but only if I have at least one friend to play with.

It's basically "Zombie Apocalypse Borderlands" with a lot more glitches.

Liberty's Edge

State of Decay. Gritty, realistic resource manager. LOTS of fun. Ooh! And Permadeath! That's always fun!

Dead Rising.

That is all.

I may check out state of decay. With dead rising arent you stuck in a mall with zombies and isnt it mostly just finding new ways of killing them? More of being silly than survival horror?

I enjoyed dead island and look forward to playing the sequel.

Dead Rising has the zombies as nuisances - everywhere. The dangerous threats are the surviving humans. Damn good game, though.

Started playing the demo for State of Decay. If this had better graphics and a little more polish this game could have been game of the year.

That's definitely part of it with Dead Rising. Sissyl's spot on in saying part of it is dealing with the crazed survivors as much as the zombies. Just found it was too much of the same thing after a while when you have to cross the main zones so many times.

Because it was originally just released as an Xbox arcade game, I can't determine if State of Decay looks that way by necessity or intent. On the one hand, I could see it being a case of budgetary costs and setup as a console only game. On the other hand, the sort of gritty look of the graphics could be as much an homage to the Romero style of zombie flicks. I started out just playing the demo as well, but got into it enough to spend the Xbox points on it just to see where it went.
