Create a Demon Lord

So I was pondering making a homebrew demon lord. So I thought a i'd share leave room for others to share. Here goes...

Sagira-valn
Female Demon lord of Freedom, Survival, and Wastelands
Domains: Chaos, Evil, Destruction, Liberation

A new demon lord just risen from the fringes of the World Wound, Sagira-valn values her freedom and survival above all else. She brooks no threat to these from mortal and demon alike.

She bears a great disdain for any who would debase themselves before a master, be it a lord, a god, or ideological construct and laughs at those who claim true freedom while slavishly adhering to their tenets.

Her cult is largely made up of lone survivalists and small resistance cells who will do any and everything to ensure their group's freedom. The irony of the cult is not lost on her and that in addition to the occasional fun it affords her are the sole reasons she lets them continue.

As with any demon lord secrets and rumors abound. For instance, though she is said to have arisen from the World Wound it is rumored that she was originally a Rahadoumi who crafted herself demon in order to be the master of fate. One secret is her connection to the Elves of Kyonin. Though what this connection is is unknown her name is spoken with whispers and venom by the elves. Stranger still is how she has managed to arise with little interference from the other factions within the World Wound. True her domain is not as large as it could be and she keeps her business out of the way of Deskari it is whispered though that her relative peace in this demon blighted wasteland is due to some weapon or secret.

Nothing? Nobody has their own demon lords they want to share?

That Corner of Woe certainly looks inviting...

Give me a few and i'll post a demon lord of mine. Well in a sense.

Armel Demon Lord of Fire, Shadow, Darkness
Domains: Fire, Darkness, Evil, Chaos

In my homebrewed world Armel was a powerful demon lord that brought a great darkness on the world until a mighty paladin struck him down. Unable to kill the demon lord the Paladin scarficed his power and his allies to forever trap the demon lord in an eternal prison of no escape.

However; a number of years ago i ran a game where the party paladin Prince Keith Essorexx heard the whipsers of the demon lord. To save his Kingdom Armel promised Keith the power to do so, but only if he could be released from his prison.

When the heroes arrived; they interrupted the ritual to free him completely. As a result Armel now shares the body with Keith who has now become an anti-paladin, but instead of having his full demon power, he acts as a Nascent demon lord.

I've been tinkering with the stat block for a bit. But i'll get it done and post it here.

Lord Armel Essorexx
Human Nascent Demon Lord Possessed Anti-paladin

I would rather people NOT share their homebrew demon lords as they are often Mary Sue type characters...all super powerful and nigh invincible.

Do you believe mine is?

Hey The NPC, did you abandon your other thread on the mechanics for this demon lord? I wanted to see how she was coming out.

No I have not. Right now i'm using the benchmark chart and estropating backwards while using the three published nascent demon lords as a reference. Luckily adding the mythic portion later will be easier.

Your desire to see it will add incentive :)

Scarab Sages

Nightbringer: The Twilight Lord

Domains: Chaos, Evil, Loss, Deception

Empires crumble and fall from the corruption within. Prosperity and peace lead to decadence and hedonism. Those who burn the brightest fall the furthest.

Nightbringer will spend centuries raising an empire to the heights of power and prosperity, leading it to a golden age where anything its citizens desire can be had. Anything.

In their end days, empires willingly accept his embrace.

I assure you, Nightbringer would never be so crude as to reveal himself before a society is beyond redemption. Nor would he cause a conflict that would galvanize a society or prod it to closely examine its own moral center. Quite the opposite, he often mentors would be heroes, directing their attention towards external threats.

Sounds insidious. I like it. Did he enjoy watching Not-Rome burn? :)

But of the ones I have seen on the web they certainly are.

On d20pfsrd there's a good list of demon lords and arch devils (mostly statted up by Frog God Games). They're mostly just beefed up outsiders with absurd amounts of, well, everything (see Orcus). In a campaign that was a mix of homebrew and Rapan Athuk, my party took on the archdevil Alastor, the demon lord Sonechard, Orcus himself (albeit he was significantly weaker after they had destroyed the three temples), and they also had the privilege of having Maphistaal thrown at them by a barbarian who was under control of an intelligent item (who also happened to be a minor god).

As for designing them, just stack them up with as many outisder hitdice as you think appropriate, and then load them up with feats, SLA's, prepared spells, and special abilities (third party or otherwise). You need to remember that demon lords / archdevils are practically demigods, and that means their powers can be as varied and strong as you deem appropriate.

During the early days of 1E, I was struck that there were no female demon lords other than Lolth and her measly 66 hps...so I did made some female demon lords to even it out, so to speak.

One I did was Echidna, Demon Queen of Serpents. She resemble a type V demon with two arms. She also has four snakes protruding from her back and her snake tail ends with a snake head.

She was a fallen goddess from the Seven Heavens and all her stats revolved around the number 7: AC-7, HP 277, Psionics 277, Magic Resistance 70% and so on.

Later with the advent of 3E and with the real Echidna being imprisoned in the Wells of Darkness (curse you PAIZO!!), I revamped my version to be a daughter of Demogorgon and Malcanthet, second in power only to Arendagrost (she would be CR22).

With the real Echidna imprisoned, she took the goddess' name and try to siphon power from the goddess' worshippers. She also try to gain power to masquerading as other snake cult deities. Her real name is unknown.
