Maximizing martial artist's exploit weakness

Advice

So I am thinking about playing a martial artist monk archetype in an upcoming campaign and I was theory crafting ideas on how to maximize the exploit weakness feature to have it occur more reliably. I don't particularly wish to speak about the over/underpowered nature of monks in this thread as that has been sufficiently accomplished in other threads.

When trying to facilitate the growth of this probably I came across the circlet of persuasion, which specifies that it gives a +3 bonus on all charisma based checks. My question, does that apply to ability checks or only to skill checks that use charisma?

The reason that this is even an question in this monk thread is that I see no reason why a similar item could not be created for wisdom based checks, and thusly apply a relatively cheap +3 to exploit weakness checks.

Let me know what ya think. Thanks in advance.

Well it does say "check" which is defined in the rules, so it should work. Not sure if it would be the same though since WIS affects saving throws (a check) and can affect attack rolls with guided hand (a check), so a bonus to WIS checks is more powerful than a bonus to CHR checks even without consideration of a MA monk's exploit weakness.

Not sure Wis saves are considered a check...nor are attack rolls...in the sense of the word that goes with items like that.

There are items that make wearers count as 4 levels higher for certain abilities (eg sorcerers cloak? Monks belt etc) so no reason you couldn't get the GM to price up (or match) a similar item. That would be +4.

Circlet of Persuasion has always seemed too cheap. Everyone should get them. Then everyone should recognize them, so everyone is at -5 (as everyone else expects to be manipulated).

And I agree that it says a wisdom check. So from Circlet (equivalent), it should apply. Just good luck! ;)
