Yup, Mike has said the new Guide will be available for download tomorrow, though it doesn't take effect until GenCon.
As for precautions against getting sick, I wonder if being sick now will help. You know, getting it out of my system in advance and all that. I've been feeling borderline sick for two days now.

Shiny! Will be sure to have paper and ink enough to print it out. (Didn't print out the last version, just revised the one I had. This time is a full reprint.)
I'm right there with you, though my sinuses have been acting up for the past week. Thankfully on the upward trend now. Going to be healthy as can be for the Con! Bringing plenty of Zinc just in case.

Forgive me, I knew not what I created.
So, I tried this tonight. My gods is this good. I think it might need moar bacon because the maple overpowers just about everything. I know there is bourbon in there somewhere, but I can barely taste it.
For the first glass, I tried it plain, then with ice, then with cherry bitters (I only have cherry bitters. Vanilla is a definite and orange might work). My first thought was, "What can I cut this with?" and the only acceptable answer was ice. Or moar straight bourbon. You know, to let you know it's there. This will be my second gla-, I mean quality control sample.
Anyone interested in trying this is more than welcome. I am afraid of what would happen if I or only the people in my room drank it all. I am running Fortress of the Nail, Voice in the Void, and Ray Smuckles' bone bone bonekeep Friday evening. Look me up.

There are things Man was not meant to create...
I will make another bottle or two of the Maple Bacon Bourbon. I was thinking of ways to get more bacon flavor, still using the fat wash method. I love that phrase-- "Fat Wash Method." I think I know how to get the amount of bacon love that I want. It's all in the reflexes, Wang.
The last batch was nearly a 1:1 ratio of bourbon to maple syrup. This batch will likely end up being two parts bourbon to one part Maple. I may need multiple quality control samples to insure a drinkable liquid.

I do this for science
So last night I ran several glasses of quality control, looking for the right ratio of bourbon to maple. I knew 1:1 was too sweet, so I started at the other end of the spectrum.
My first sample was three parts bourbon to one part maple (3 Tbs : 1 Tbs).
Result: Good. You definitely tasted the bourbon. There was a nice after burn with just a hint of maple at the finish. Not enough maple. After the initial taste, I added a drop or two of cherry vanilla bitters. Oh sweet mercy, was this ever a good idea. She Who Rules the Known Universe declared "This is awesome! More." The vanilla and the maple made sweet love to my tongue as I finished off the glass.
The second sample was 2:1.
Result: We have a winner! This had the right balance of bourbon and maple, neither too sweet nor too much alcohol sting. This was delicious. Then I added the bitters. She Who Rules the Known Universe told me to add more of the bitters. So tasty. It almost brought a tear to my eye. In addition to making sweet love to my tongue, this version made me pancakes for breakfast the next morning.
The last step was adding the bacon love and refrigerating.
I give the container a good shake every time I open the fridge. In one weeks time I move the container to the freezer so the bacon love congeals, making it easier to remove. The last step is straining the liquid as I pour it back into a bottle. Can't wait.

Lots of good advice on this.
I am running the same mod 7 slots. Makes for easy prep. I am worried that it could become tedious by the 4th time running and difficult to keep it exciting.
I feel running the mod for the non pf group I am in an adventure path with would help discover any issues that myself or the mod might have.

So, Hurler and Silbeg, how was the Maple Bacon Bourbon? I already know it needs more bacon. I will need to "experiment" over the the spring and summer to get the right amount of smokey bacony luv into the mix for Gencon. One party goer thought the mix was still too sweet.
What say you all?
I say there wasn't enough!!! Was very tasty! Very dangerous... went down very smooth!
I'd agree that there wasn't much bacon flavor in it. Did you cut with the maple syrup before or after adding the bacon fat? Maybe you should soak some of bacon rashers in the bourbon as well as the fat (in a cheese cloth so that they are easily retrievable). Or, perhaps, just have some strips of bacon available as garnishes? That'd do the trick, as well...
I wonder... maybe I'll have to mix up a concoction with some Bourbon or Irish whiskey, and the ginger/lime/mint syrup we've been playing with. Let it age for a while... and let the ginger soak in the bourbon for a while as well. Hmm...

FEAR ME, FOR I HAVE SLAIN THE BACON BEAST!
With one third cup bacon luv and the strips of cooked bacon I have achieved smoky Nirvana (Korada would be proud). Since we will have two bottles of this for GenCon, I feel I must spread the love and indoctrinate all into the Cult of the Whiskey Porcine.
Seriously, this stuff is good. Sweet mercy.
