Wow! Discussing all the new (unannounced) stuff in the 2013-14 catalog

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

Hokay, so. There are a LOT of new things in this catalog that I had not heard of yet, and i'm excited about a LOT of them, so I wanted to make a post about them. Here are the ones that, as far as I know, haven't been officially announced on the Paizo Blog or anything like that yet:

Pathfinder RPG Strategy Guide (Core book): This sounds like it will be great for those who are new to Pathfinder, but not brand-new to roleplaying (which the Beginner Box is suited for). It will have step-by-step instructions on making a character, guides to complicated systems like combat maneuvers, and even spell selection tips. This sounds awesome!

Bestiary 4 (Core book): Though this HAS been announced, I just wanted to make a quick point that the catalog says that this has stats for "the invincible Cthulu"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mummy's Mask 1-6 (Adventure Path): This will be set in Osirion, which is sort of like ancient Egypt. Lots of mummies (obviously) and sand (also obviously), so expect to make a lot of saves against heat stroke!

Inner Sea Gods (Campaign Setting): I've been looking forward to hearing more about the gods themselves, and I doubt that this book will disappoint. Being a 320-page hardcover, I expect to see a LOT of detail on the major and minor gods of the Golarion setting, and tons of new rule options for characters that worship them!

Inner Sea NPC Codex (Campaign Setting): I don't know about you, but I love the NPC classes such as the Hellknights and Red Mantis assassins that couldn't be included in the main NPC codex because it's campaign neutral, so I'm very excited for this one.

Inner Sea Combat (Campaign Setting): This one could either be awesome or "meh", we'll just have to wait to see. The description mentions the Aldori Swordlords, which means we'll probably hear more about them, but I don't know exactly what else they'll put in here.

Osirion, Legacy of Pharaohs (Campaign Setting): I have loved most of these books, and Osirion is where my first PFS character was from, so I'll be happy to see more options for characters hailing from this ancient Egyptian-style country.

Magical Marketplace (Player Companion): I'm all for more magic items, even though Ultimate Equipment made for a HUGE amount of info to search through when buying stuff for your character. This book will likely just be a drop in the pond, compared to the sheer amount of info that was in Ultimate Equipment, but I'll definitely be picking it up anyway.

Alchemy Manual (Player Companion): A book all about alchemy? Sign me up! Poisons are one thing that I feel like are glossed over by a lot of GMs, so maybe a large section on poisons will change that.

Bastards of Golarion (Player Companion): OH MAN! I love the half-races, as they're versatile while still having flavor (unlike us boring humans) so this book will rock. I love the idea of half-races having options that neither of their parent races can use, so this book will be up at the top of my list of purchases in January.

People of the Sands (Player Companion): This one obviously goes with the Osirion book and the Mummy's Mask adventure path, and so it'll probably just be a small supplement to the rules provided in those. This is one I'll pick up after some others that I'm more excited about.

Champions of Balance (Player Companion): Just seeing the cover image for this one makes me want to buy it in print form, as the image of Seoni in her (I assume) Nethys-inspired outfit is just awe-inspiring. I really liked the options in Champions of Purity, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one just as much.

Undead Slayer's Handbook (Player Companion): Everyone loves to kill undead (unless you like to make them, weirdo! :-P ) This book will give us a bunch of new options for going after undead foes, so I'll definitely want it as soon as it's available!

Tides of Battle (Pathfinder Cards): This one was a total surprise to me, and after reading the description, I HAVE to get it, even though I've never been terribly interested in the "cards" line of products. This one says that you make a custom deck for your character based on his or her talents and strengths, and that you can play cards during a game to help or hurt yourself, all based on the luck of the draw. I think this will be a wonderful injection of randomness into my games, so I can't wait!

Social Combat Deck (Pathfinder Cards): I tend to focus more on battles and less on roleplaying, so this one won't be as interesting to me personally, but I know a lot of other GMs who will definitely want to use this, to supplement their games with roleplaying challenges for their players.

That's all the new ones that I'm seeing (minus the novels and the non-Pathfinder items), so now, DISCUSS! :-D

I must admit, I am not really that enthusiastic about the 2014 line-up so far. When the only books I find interesting are mostly from the player companion line and the only interesting one from the RPG line will probably not be that big ( if the cover price of 19.99$ is any indication ), it seems like I won't be spending much money on Paizo stuff next year.

Cartmanbeck, every (or almost every) item you listed was announced at Paizocon and has its' own thread in the Product Discussions subforum, I guess it's easier to go there and talk :)

Really? Cuz I was watching the forums all weekend and didn't see a thing about most of these items. Don't know how I could have missed them...? Even looking over there now, most of the recent posts are talking about Ultimate Campaign mechanics... I see nothing about the Tides of Battle cards, or Inner Sea NPC Codex, or... well, any of these?!

Heh... figured it out. I had the "Product Discussions" section of the forums shrunk down for some reason. I was looking at the Paizo Products discussion thread. Totally different.

I apologize! Don't skin me! :)

Glad I could help. I'm not sure if every product you listed has a thread already, but they'll pop up sooner or later.

Where can the product catalog PDF be found? Would love to take a gander at it, particularly the new AP. =)

I'm less excited: I see little I want post-Ultimate Campaign. Mythic is okay, but since I'm going with APs for the foreseeable future this will get almost no use. And that makes half the Bestiary 4 "meh" as well. (Plus I already have more monsters than I will ever use.)
But I might run a "punch out Cthulhu" one-shot to make use of both books. You find excuses where needed...

While I like gods, my players have never been really big into the divine, and have shown little interest in learning about the worlds we pay in. So I don't imagine I'll get Inner Sea Gods. But I can see why people are excited about that; as my group plays more APs and gets to know Golarion this might changes, so it might end up being a "later" purchase.

And as someone who has been gaming for twenty years and is obsessive enough to have an entire room dedicated to the hobby, the Strategy Guide is wasted on me.
I was really excited to see what the spring book would be, and seeing a product that is something that I would have been iffy buying thirteen years ago when I was learning 3e... well, that was anticlimactic.

But I can't complain.
Mythic serves a purpose and is a great idea for an alternative style of game that does nothing for me, but is essential to others. And I understand the need for a book to help players get into Pathfinder, which is a pretty dense system for new RPG players, even those with a computer game background. So whining about not having any books would be incredibly selfish of me. I just have to suck it up and cross my fingers for something cool for GenCon 2014.
Worst case I save some money and can buy more Player Companions and minis.

I'm liking the 4th Bestiary, the new adventure path, the new mythic stuff, and maybe the RPG strategy guide for my players, but that's about it. There is more products than usual in the future line up I'm not interested in.

Like always though I'm sure when the time comes around I will warm up to them and talk myself into getting a good portion of the rest.

No Numeria stuff? I'm disappointed.

Pathfinder RPG Strategy Guide (Core book): Sounds Good!

Bestiary 4 (Core book): More critter is not always a good thing, but more options is.

Mummy's Mask 1-6 (Adventure Path): Glad I have a subscription.

Inner Sea Gods (Campaign Setting): I hope it will be more a Cleric, etc resource than stats. I would like to see Clerics reflect the deity they serve rather than be the cookie cutters belched out in 1999.

Inner Sea NPC Codex (Campaign Setting): I wasn't keen on the first, but its growing on me.

Inner Sea Combat (Campaign Setting): Hoping...

Osirion, Legacy of Pharaohs (Campaign Setting): I have high hopes.

Magical Marketplace (Player Companion): Hoping for a better system for creation costs.

Alchemy Manual (Player Companion): Argh!. Now I'll have no excuse for discouraging them.

Bastards of Golarion (Player Companion): Another Race book? Great!

People of the Sands (Player Companion): Again, high hopes.

Champions of Balance (Player Companion): Oddly, I would like a good Druid path here.

Undead Slayer's Handbook (Player Companion): Good.

Tides of Battle (Pathfinder Cards): From the description, I already make these, will be delighted to see a professional work.

Social Combat Deck (Pathfinder Cards): I will have to get these to cover my weakness in this area.

Oh great, gotta buy all of them!

I didn't see mention that the December WizKids PF Battles set was for Wrath of the Righteous.

It's really well hidden - it's at the bottom of the list of things related to Wrath of the Righteous (pawns, maps, cards etc) in the WotR section - p33ish

When do these come out? Please say soon. I'm always looking for stuff set beyond the usual European themed areas and this sounds like it could be fun.

Ooooo I'm not actually that interested in the NPC Codexes but does this mean there will be another pawn box coming out for this? I'm a pawn addict. >.<

Shadow Lodge

Initial Thoughts

Pathfinder RPG Strategy Guide (Core book): "meh"

Bestiary 4 (Core book): mostly "meh"

Mummy's Mask 1-6 (Adventure Path): sounds interesting, especially if it's sort of along the lines of Carrion Crown rather than Runelords or Shattered Star in Egypt

Inner Sea Gods (Campaign Setting): not sure yet

Inner Sea NPC Codex (Campaign Setting): extreme "meh"

Inner Sea Combat (Campaign Setting): so Ultimate Monk 3?

Osirion, Legacy of Pharaohs (Campaign Setting): wasn't terribly impressed with the Osirion Player's Guide, so we will see.

Magical Marketplace (Player Companion): So Ultimate Equipment is already going to be pointless as the go to book for (almost) all stuff?

Alchemy Manual (Player Companion): Why? I guess?

Bastards of Golarion (Player Companion):

People of the Sands (Player Companion): see the above Osirion book

Champions of Balance (Player Companion): []rolls eyes[/]

Undead Slayer's Handbook (Player Companion): Probably the thing I'm looking forward to the most since Champions of Purity the next few years. Might be great, and I hope so.

Tides of Battle/Social Combat Deck (Pathfinder Cards): unsure
