I know that this has been asked, and the opinions on the message boards are very mixed. I have not seen an official ruling on this, and given the confusion about it, we really need one for PFS.
My current understanding is that if you give an eidolon gear, that gear does not go back with it when the eidolon is desummoned. My reasoning for this is that, first, eidolons are treated as summoned creatures (page 55). Second, here's a James Jacob posting that indicates clearly that items taken by a summoned creature (in this case, swallowed) do not return to the summoned creature's plane when the summoning ends:

However, this has made a player in my game rather mad. I've houseruled that the eidolon can keep magic items its wearing that are not in slots that conflict with the summoner's slots, and that it can keep its "signature" weapon. Given my ruling, I suspect that I'm violating the rules even allowing this. I do know, however, that other GMs allow the eidolon to take all kinds of stuff back and forth, allowing the eidolon to act as a particularly convenient pack mule in addition to everything else, and making STR an even more attractive dump stat for summoners than it is already for wizards and sorcerors....
We really need an official ruling on this so that players and GMs alike can point to it when these debates come up.

I'm going to stick with this interpretation for now, on the assumption that it counts as official for PFS. This really should be added to a FAQ somewhere.
