Warlords of Choon |

Bruno walks into the Pit with confidence, Esmeralda at his left. His chainmail and her studded leather barding shine in the light. In his hand he carries a finely crafted lance. A wicked looking pick is at his side, and a pair of Pillum protrude from his back under a cloak. In his other hand, he holds a heavy wooden shield.
He eyes the pits with a familiar ease and stretches a bit, preparing for the fight ahead.
Init. : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Initiative: 20

Llaelian's gladiator 1 |

Almost in asymetrical way, Liane enters the arena for the first time. she is now fully armed and armored. Her leafcloth armor seem to absorb all the light. On her back protrude a long dark wooden lance and a small scimetar. In her left hand, a finely carved recurved composite long bow is ready while a buckler is strapped to her left arm and she holds a potion in her left hand.
On her left, Pearl her roc companion hops on the ground, fully kitted with a dark saddle, wings half open.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Liane Initiative 15
As we are not mounted, should we roll the initiative for our companions as well?
Bruno is in A10 and Esmerelda in AB 11-12 while Liane is in L11 and Pearl in L10.

Warlords of Choon |

I never have, honestly
::Suprise round::
ride: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Move: mount
Swift: challenge
Bruno glides into the saddle, urges Esmeralda to the side, and stands in the saddle. He holds his lance high before shouting Have at ye!, and launching a massive wad of phlegm across the arena.
Now in A-B/10-11

Llaelian's gladiator 1 |

Surprise round
ride check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
Well... Move action mount, swift action activates ranger focus, target Bruno
Barely a second after Bruno, Liane takes a little time to look Bruno up and down then climbs into the saddle and Pearl takes flight, climbing up to 25 feet in H4 (flying up at 45° with half speed).

Warlords of Choon |

::Round 1::
Bruno mutters a curse under his breath. Ting skal bo på den blodige bakken.
He spurrs Esmeralda into action. While he directs her around the western pilar, he stows his lance and draws a Pilum.
move to D4

Llaelian's gladiator 1 |

Round 1
From her mount, Liane store back her potion, freeing her hand and casts a spell.
Then, reversing in flight, Liane directs Pearl to the other side of the Arena, disappearing in G17.
Pearl Move action: Fly to G17

Warlords of Choon |

Bruno continues to mutter to himself in Dwarven. He gives chase, mirroring his foe's move.
Move to D17, will attack liane if I see them. Assuming -4 due to range increments
attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Move D17
Attack:Nat 1. That sucks
Damage: irrelavent

Llaelian's gladiator 1 |

Round 2
Liane is in G17, 25' up
Liane easily dodges the pilum then retrieves the potion she has previously stored and drinks it. Directing Pearl again, she swoops back to her previous position and diappears in G4.
Choon, in my reading of the rules, unless Esmerelda has a 70 foot move, you action of this round is not possible. You've moved 65 feet, which is a double move for Esmeralda, that means you can only fire a missile at the middle of you move and with a -4 penalty. again, if you've found a way to overcome this rule, just tell me and ignore what I've just said.

Warlords of Choon |

Round 3
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Bruno continues to try to get a line on his foe. He moves toward Liane, but where exactly he stops is obscured by the pillar.
I was unaware that the attack had to happen mid-way. Nothing really happens the. As Bruno would not have an angle at that time. The attack was a miss anyway so no big deal.

Llaelian's gladiator 1 |

Round 3
Hidden by the post, Bruno hears Liane casting a second spell, then she moves back G4, H4, I5 then all the way to I19.
Move action push Pearl to get pearl to use full defense: handle animal DC 25: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23, miss
shield 9/10, shield of faith on Pearl, 28/30
No pb on the previous round, I just wanted to point that rule to you for the rest of the fight.

Llaelian's gladiator 1 |

Round 3a
As Liane rounds the Pillar (I6) she is met by a flying Pilum from Bruno who was directly beside the pillar, waiting.Bruno in F-G/6-7. Readied Attack (Distance already factored)
Attack:24
Damage:14
The pilum seems to fly true, but a strange wind just veers it aside.
It's a miss.
How do we proceed from here as far as initiative is concerned?

Warlords of Choon |

Bruno has one left, which he draws now
Bruno starts roaring, Come down 'ere you [redacted] [redacted] of a [redacted-redacted-redacted] and fight me!
He keeps pace with her all the way across the arena and chucks his last pillum as she arrives at the opposite wall.
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Move to I-J/16-17 is exactly 50' by my count.
Attack:16
Damage:13
I doubt that's a hit

Llaelian's gladiator 1 |

round 4
It is a miss
Now that you are close, you realize that Liane face has changed. Her eyes are raptor like and feathers have grown on both sides of her head.
Answering with a bird like cry, she draws an arrow from on of her quiver and let it fly towards the swearing dwarf.
Then Pearl and Liane fly over their ennemy to the other side of the arena.
Standard action:bow attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22, damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6,
Move action, handle animal to get Pearl to use full defense DC25: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16, miss
Bow attack 22, damage 6, move to I3

Warlords of Choon |

The arrow finds its way around Bruno's shield and lodges itself in his thigh. With a grunt of pain Bruno removes the offending stick, draws his lance and rides for cover, trying to lure his foe down from the ceiling.
Move to F-G/17-18. Draw lance.
Now I get to wait. :) I wonder, if I go to where liane was when I attacked could I pick the pilims back up?

Llaelian's gladiator 1 |

Round 5
I hope you're in F-G 17-18, otherwise you're half-fused with a wall :)
Liane moves back into full view of Bruno in K17 and fires again at the dwarf.
Move action, push Pearl to use total defense 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18, DC25 and a miss again
bow attack 20, damage 6
Concerning the pilums, I'm not sure. In their description, it is said they break like ammunition on a hit and ammunition have a 50% chance of breaking even if they do not hit. That's a question for the arbiter.

Warlords of Choon |

1=broken, 2=good to go
Pilum 1: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Pilum 2: 1d2 ⇒ 2
The second one to be south of me is good.
Bruno spots his Pilum in tact in the sand a few feet away.
He rides out, secures his lance, dismounts, but his shoulder wound prevents him from immediately retrieving his Pilum.
ride check 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
ride check 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage so far:12
Bruno in I19, Esmeralda in H-I/17-18, Bruno is unarmed, about to pick up Pilum.
I have never failed so many ride checks. Personal record!

Llaelian's gladiator 1 |

Round 6
Inspired by her success, Liane flies to C19 and send another arrow into Bruno.
Move action, push Pearl to use total defense 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16, DC25, miss
Bow attack 22, damage 5. I can't seem to roll higher than a 1 on a d6

Warlords of Choon |

:: Round 7::
Im perfectly fine with that. :P
With a third arrow now protruding from him, Bruno roars and leaps back onto Esmeralda, Pilum in hand. He urges Esmeralda over to where the flyer is swooping and hurled his last hope for victory into the air.
ride: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Overall damage: 17
attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Now in C-D/18-19, directly beneath you, and in the only position where I can throw with no penalty, and the dice crap all over me. D:
Attack:15
Damage:13
break?: 1d2 ⇒ 2
But apparently this pillum has the Durable quality. :P

Llaelian's gladiator 1 |

Round 7
Dodging once again the pilum, Liane directs Pearl to F6 and fires another arrow at her opponent.
Move action, push Pearl to use total defense 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31, DC25,
Critical hit1d20 ⇒ 18, extra damage2d6 + 8 ⇒ (4, 6) + 8 = 18
Bow attack 29 critical threat, damage 7
critical threat confirmation 27, extra damage 18

Warlords of Choon |

Doesnt matter, but good to have precedence for.
The last arrow dips just under Bruno's upturned chin, dives into his neck, and bursts out the other side, killing him instantly.
Good fight. I'm so buying a big 'ol crossbow for next time. :P

Llaelian's gladiator 1 |

Good fight. I'm so buying a big 'ol crossbow for next time. :P
Thanks for being such a sport :P. I know my build came as a surprise, but I'm going to hurt in my next fights, as every one will rush to the shop to buy ranged weapons.
I'm sure you'll do better in the next fights.
Grogg Fire-Bringer |

Ahahahahahaha. Boom Boom Time!!!
Hey Rolg, let me know what speed you want the freeze out at. I'm pretty much free until Monday so I can post as much as necessary. Also just to make sure I've got this right, G is before R in the alphabet so I take it I'm up top and you're on bottom?
Initiative:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Grogg bounds out of his gate a little more excited than anyone going into a gladiator pit should. His attire is typical of a goblin, ratty shirt with some shinys underneath. His weapons however are not in the least bit goblin make. He has two weapons that look impossible for anyone his size to wield: a massive hammer and a hollow stick which Rolg would most likely recognize as a fire-arm of deadly proportions.

Gladiator_Eben |

A few questions. THe over-large hammer… what is it? And what size? Same questions for the firearm. No armor? No shields/buckler? Are there any potions? Scroll-case? Spell component pouch?
The red-maned dwarf steps back into the new pits, decked out exactly as he was for his last match. (For full appearance, and gear, look in the profit.) The small army's worth of weapons and armor hanging from his stocky body clatter as he waves to the crowd. Then his eyes fall on his tiny opponent, and they turn to a dour scowl.
"Vel de bare la noen gå inn i disse dager, er de ikke?" he mutters as two of the polearms clatter to the floor, and he sets the butt of the third in the sand, the same small vial occupying his left hand.
Initiative 20 (Dang! Missed it by that much…)

Grogg Fire-Bringer |

eh, its a musket (medium) and a lucerne hammer (small but still big for a small creature). as for armor :) Grogg has his shiney to protect him. :) (yes there is armor but its under what can best be described as a raggedy shirt.) Cool thanks for the heads up I've done pbp before but more story and less map so if something looks fuzzy I'll do my best to explain it and if it still doesnt make sense I'll defer to you.

Grogg Fire-Bringer |

upon seeing the fuzzy red dwarf, Grogg lets out a squeak of delight that could curdle milk. Ahahahahah, Dwarf it! Dwarf it!
Grogg sets his sights on the dwarf and fires at the mass of hair and armor.
Deadeye (1 grit) double range increment vs touch
Attack: 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 13 - 2 = 27
Damage: 1d12 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
27 vs Touch AC to hit
6 dmg if it does

Gladiator_Eben |

No problem. I trust you on the numbers, and Rolg's flat-footed touch AC is far below that, so you'd need a handful more penalties to worry about missing. :)
.
I do have a couple of questions, though. You're firing a musket. Does that mean you dropped your hammer (a free action)? Secondarily, do you have an ability that lets you fire a medium musket? THe musket is a 2-handed weapon, so I don't know of a way to wield a Medium one for a small character.
Let me know on these before I make Rolg's actions.

Gladiator_Eben |

Oh, gotcha. I had no idea that existed.
Surprise Round
The impact knocks Rolg back half a step, but he holds his ground, shaking his red-haired head briefly before downing the contents of the vial in his hand. His muscles swell as he begins his advance forward.
Drink the vial (contents PM'd to you)
5' step forward to K.11
Drink the contents of vial. 5' step to K.11
You're up.

Grogg Fire-Bringer |

hmmm, I just figured its the closest interpretation to sheathing a big hammer. If that doesn't work just let me know and we can treat it as dropped on the ground
Seeing the Dwarf unphased by is amazing shooting skills, Grogg pounds his chest, levels his rifle at Rolg and fires again.
swift to reload (bandolier)
move to increase range increment by 10 ft (this should put the range to 50 ft and as far as I can tell we are 50 ft apart)
Attack:1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
Dmg:1d12 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Touch Attack: 26
Dmg: 3
Wow, if my bullets keep doing that much.....and I'm still in A11

Gladiator_Eben |

Round 1
Another of the pesky projectiles pings off his chest plate, and Rolg clearly has had enough.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!" He explodes up to twice his size and he roars across the arena sands, finishing with a vicious horizontal swing of his massive hammer.
Charge to D/E 10/11
Rage strike with the lucerne hammer
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
3d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 2, 2) + 12 = 20
Double in size, charge to D/E 10/11, Lucerne Hammer strike
Attack 22; Damage 20
You're up

Grogg Fire-Bringer |

ahhh, looks like someone likes to get big. Random question(s): Since you are large, where would you say that you threaten around the pillar in c12. I ask because I can see you threatening quite a few squares but with a pillar in the way, i figure there are a few squares that you wouldn't be able to hit. Also, just so I make sure I understand Reach with large weapons, you do not threaten a 10 ft radius around Rolg right?

Gladiator_Eben |

Sorry, yes, your second shot hit. It just didn't' hit for much, so i fluffed it in as a 'soft-hit'.
.
Enlarged and with a reach weapon, Rolg has a serious reach. Over on that side of the map, he threatens all the way over to the 14 row (A-H), as well as the 15 row (C-F).
.
Within the first 10 feet, Rolg threatens with his spiked gauntlets.
.
And there is no square in which you'd have complete cover. Though you'd get cover by moving into B.12, B.13, B.14 (I think), and C.13. Basically normal cover rules for ranged cover.
.
Let me know if any of this is unclear.

The Arbiter |

I'm not positive about B14 being cover, since technically a line from the bottom-right corner of E11 to the top-left of B14 does not pass through a barrier (it just touches a corner). I'll look somewhat into it.
EDIT: Based off of the chart here, and the explanation of why the rogue does not have cover from the ogre, I believe that B14 gives no cover from rolg in DE1011.

Grogg Fire-Bringer |

Ok, I think I get it, though I'm not quite sure how you can be wielding spiked gauntlets and have the two handed reach weapon ready for AoO. In any case, Grogg is in for a world of hurt.
The hit from Rolg brings terror to the now blood filled eyes of the tiny goblin. Grogg crouches low in an effort to hide and again pounds his chest, points his gun and fires. as soon as the gun fires and smoke rises, Grogg makes a break for it.
swift to reload (magically so no AoO there)
Attack Defensively: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 11 - 4 = 24 (AoO here)
Damage: 1d12 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Move (AoO here)
touch attack: 24 (provoked aoo)
damage: 5
move to B17 (provoke aoo)
