Movement and disarming traps in exploration mode

Beginner Box

Hello there!

I just bought The Pathfinder Beginner Box and I already love it. I haven't started playing yet. I'll play as a GM and I want to make sure I know all (or most) of the rules from this box. I still have some problems regarding the exploration part of the adventure and I can't find the answer either in the rule books or on this part of the forum.

As far as I've read, if your party encounters an unlocked wooden door, anyone of them can spend one movement action to open it. But why are they talking about "spending movement actions", since this is not during combat? Shouldn't all actions be free during exploration?

Also, when encountering traps and when trying to disarm them, why is it stated that (as an example) disabling a simple device takes 1round? Is this considered combat? If not, why does the concept of round exist in exploration mode and what does it represent exactly?

I would appreciate any detailed replies and I thank you in advance. :D

You are right that outside of combat it really doesn't matter how long these tasks should take.

Though if either situation were to come up during a combat then you have an idea already how they should be treated. It certainly is possible to have environmental interaction during a combat scene.

Thank you very much. :D
