Changing Alignment in PFS

Shadow Lodge 3/5

4 people marked this as FAQ candidate.

Have we ever worked out an official way to change alignments? It's been discussed here and here but that was pre-season 4 where it's now very much open to abuse.

I'm looking to get an alignment change only for flavour reasons (a gunslinger from LN to TN, no immediate intention to multiclass), but the "just do it" rule creates precedent for abusing certain boons these days.

I can talk about the flavour reason if anyone wants to know, but it's not really relevant.

I am very interested in this also.

I would like to do a Law vs Chaos switch and am currently writing it into my backstory as I just found drugs to start being viable for this character, but like you say, being able to do a good vs evil swap at will would be same as adding several thousand gold to your character in season 4 if you are a dubious player with a dubious character.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

When he played in Race for the Runecarved Key, he was playing with another player who has Profession (slaver), owns a ship, and has enlisted many others with the goal of creating his own faction.

He performed so well tactically that day, both ethically in front of our paladin and in the encounters we faced, which impressed my character moreso than any other Pathfinder he's seen throughout his career (he's level 10), so he offered to join him.

The character has always been a sort of a mercenary for the Pathfinder Society (Grand Lodge faction), and while working for the Society has been mundane and done the job, a new age has come upon him. It's an ambitious goal for a Pathfinder, but it's clearly his path.

He followed the Society to keep him where he is, always going by the rule of society. Now he's straying.

It's not evil, but that's another argument that the employer would be far better suited to answer. He's had to make it many, many times, and he's good at it.

What boons?

I assume the OP is talking about specific boon(s) which, if taken, move a character one step towards evil. So a player may wish to switch a neutral character to good in anticipation of such a boon so they get the boon, with no net change to their character.

If that's the OP is talking about, I agree it's kind of lame, but I also don't really think it's that big of a deal.

Spoiler:
One I know of is the wafer from Feast of Sigils. I think there might be another in Season 4.

These wouldn't happen to be the drugs from the GameMastery Guide would they?

Yes, and there are indeed quite a few more.

Rival Guide, although it may a duplicate, I haven't read GameMastery.

The Drugs in Rival Guide are not authorized for PFS play, though the Poisons are

Well #$%! while it is listed under poisoner's miscellany on a page where poisons are cited as legal, you are right it does have a different sub heading. That kind of blows, I was rather looking forward to this. I spent about an hour since my last game sorting out the best way to use harlot sweets without running the risk of addiction.

Well you can always have it as part of the backstory, even if you can't purchase them in game.

Silver Crusade

Derailed the discussion, I also would like to know what ruling there is for changing alignment.

Shadow Lodge 3/5

Rumour has it I can change alignments based on the fact that I'm making the choice to move to it and I'm not moving back to an original alignment, which would require atonement.

That's what I'll go with for now until there's some better direction.
