It looks like Sandbox is the way to go... Might throw some competition up for you guys?

I think sandbox is 100% the way to go. I don't really expect to see any significant new sandbox games hit the market in 2013. I don't think Arche Age is coming any time soon (but it might).

I think, like with many asian games, it will be at least 12 months after the asian release that we see one for the western market.

It's interesting that you chose the one other game I was genuinely interested in.

According to their website, the OBT (?) was January 2nd.

Archeage is coming out in Korea soon. It's in open beta, but you have to be a Korean citizen to sign up :/

The company that's making it is Korean, and is in no hurry to get a backer for a western version of the game. Even when they find one, it'll be 1-3 years before anyone in the US or Europe can expect a beta.

Prior to finding Pathfinder Archeage was the only game that interested me, it has some cool features, but many things about it were typical MMO features that I tried to ignore.

Okay, after seeing the gameplay video HERE, I have to say the graphics are pretty impressive. Will PFO have the same style and quality of graphics, do you think?

I haven't read up on it, but I'm interested in giving it a shot (along with a few of them.)

I'm just hoping Nexon doesn't answer the call for US releases. They have really skimped on customer service, and they've about ruined my favorite game (mostly because they can't fix lag.)

They're already in negotiations with western publishers. I think I saw an interview on MMO.com.

This vid is good for upcoming sandboxes:

Sandbox MMO list 2013 video with commentary - Obzzarvations #2

List:

Greed Monger
Black Desert
The Repopulation
First Earth
Darkfall Unholy Wars
Origins of Malu
Salem
StarForge
Wurm Online
Xsyon
Mortal Online
Pathfinder Online
Archage
Dragons Prophet

There's a fair amount of "Hybrid" thrown around eg Wildstar and I wonder just how vague that is. The mmorpgs are NOT good at describing exhaustively their sandbox qualities.

Secondly, I hope Pathfinder Online will avoid wasting time on CGI trailers: Complete joke for me.

Thirdly, for me, Pathfinder Online looks most genuinely sandbox in all features(wurm, xyson, mortal online all been out and variously emphasised sandbox ideas), so it's design impresses me the most. I am concerned though by the tab-target and of course the final look of the game which we have not seen (eg UI, look of combat). Archeage vid linked above, the combat looks typical tab-target mess on screen, does not impress me so far, though the Unreal 3 engine has some nice things about it.

Finally, maybe it's just me, but Eastern mmorpgs I find hard to appreciate, because they are a different cultural heritage from art to myths and other nuances. Also I won't put up with having everything 2nd hand ie a year later etc as if the primary customer base is somewhere else: I've got a big chip on my shoulder about that ;).

they will just hit up ncsoft like they did with everything else not guildwars or city of heroes.

western civ does it to eastern civ with our video games.

as far as tab targeting goes, i for one am all for it. being a clicker i do like being able to press tab while i am clicking my hot bar and moving with my mouse so i'm not at a disadvantage.

Archeage did not appear to concern itself with friendly fire in that video.

I did think the combat was more convincing than what was shown in the PF demo, but then a demo is only a demo and will surely evolve. The combat in the Pathfinder demo was not convincing.

I did appreciate that the weaponry depicted in the Archeage video was not preposterously oversized.

Archeage also has a feature where you can plant crops, or trees that would grow into a harvestable item. Figured you would appreciate the ability to plant trees Being <grin>.

You can also raise livestock which (I think) reproduce and can be harvested.

Interesting features that I would love to see in PFO.

Planting and nurturing a Druid's Grove as a type of settlement or Neutral sanctuary seems it would be a boon to me, and an activity to bolster True Neutral alignment.

player ran farm with full live stock for the creation of leather and food, which can also be raided by enemies, yes please!

Druid Grove settlements would be awsome. Imagine the magic items you could make from those trees! /evilgrin

on a side note i have actually never heard of any of those games on the most anticipated list video that was linked with the exception of the neverwinter title (which i am avoiding like a plague), the elder scrolls title ( which i have mixed feelings about), blade and soul which i know of due to it taking city of heroes spot in the ncsoft line up, fire fall which is actually rather terrible the last beta weekend i played in, and drsgon prophet which is the new soe title being designed by the same people that made runes of magic. considering all of these titles are free to play its no shock really that I have not heard of the others.

Most of those titles are rather lackluster from what i have seen. Blade and soul i will probaly check out at some point, arch age looks interesting. phantasy Star online 2 is definetly on my radar now considering i spent many hours playing the last phantasy star game on the xbox 360.

I would pretty much play anything right now. Kinda in an mmo funk. Heck, I even bought Farm Simulator during the Steam sale.

in all honesty I am not seeing any games of interest being released this year.

I might dabble in Defiance and tESO this year, seems like my guild will be interested in them till there is a proper MMO out (we might try DF:UW for a bit, not sure yet)

ArcheAge has secured a russian publisher, but no word about Western market yet, there is also no info or details on how far they are with the translation. I don't see it being released till 2014 in EU so far.
