Extend Metamagic on an Instantaneous Spell

Rules Questions

I've searched the forums on this but couldn't find it. Is it possible to use Extend metamagic on an instantaneous spell you apply lingering metamagic to? Such as a Lingering Extended Colorspray?

No. Even under the effects of Lingering Spell, Color Spray still has a a duration of instantaneous, and so is not affected by Extend Spell.

Basically, Lingering Spell doesn't extend the duration, it just causes parts of the spell to remain. A Lingering Fireball doesn't re-burn anyone standing around in it, only people who enter the area.

I'd rule yes,as it would create a cone-shaped area in which entering creatures should be influenced by the spell effect (but not extending the duration of the effect on creatures already inside it).
But it would be an Extended Lingering Colorspray. ;-)

Hey thanks for your imput Grick, golem101.
