changing of the guard

Curse of the Crimson Throne

We have a player change (already! rolls eyes)

But the new player wants to take over an existing character abandoned by the leaving player (with a gender change)

The Elf Ronin is now played by my daughter:

She wants to do something different with the character however. She has a PrC in mind: Battle herald.

She wants to go for one level of bard to qualify for the PrC and not sure if she wants to go samurai or stay Ronin.

Original character concept is an elven knight that has left the winter council after being disgusted with the policies and corruption. Finally settling in Korvosa.

the character is neutral aligned (as are most elves in my world, not CG like sacred cow elves)

She likes the idea and is fine with that, the whole idea of a knight at odds with other knights is really fun (ronin) and she wants to roll with it. But likes the "leader" spot that battle herald will eventually give her.

She is also intrigued by the TPP Order of the Griffon, as well as Order of the Seal (and to a lesser extent order of the tome)

So the question is given the AP CotCT they are in, what would be the best route for her build? Stay Ronin? Or Take on an order eventually as Order of the Seal?
Any synergy with her chosen path to PrC to b realized?

No one has done battle herald in our group before so it might be a bundle of fun, she envisions her character shouting orders in combat and keeping the team together and focused.

The rEst of the group is a ninja/oracle, dwarf bladebound kensai and half orc barbarian/inquisitor.

Looking at Order of the Seal, I think this would merge very well with the Campaign...they are "charged with the protection of a specific object (or dangerous magic item)..."

I think as a DM I would have loved to have Cavalier with this Order. The trick is finding an place or item that is relevant to the plot (or one that you can make relevant to the plot!)

I would think an Order of the Seal member to be a "stealth" commander in reference to the Battle Herald Prestige Class. Roleplaying wise, this works great, as being a commandoish leader is awesome in my opinion.

The abilities are cool as well! I see definite possibilities for easy integration into the Campaign is she playes an Order of the Seal/Battle Herald!

Dark Archive

I have one Order of the Seal in my campaign. He was "enrolled" magicaly by people he don't even know. SO he is under a quest spell. In fact the silver crusade is behind him.
The only side effect is the quite uselessness of horses in the two first books.

The character is a ronin, so the horse is less central than the standard cavalier. She pretty much uses it to get around town, but has used it in two fights so far.

Most notably: a Battle with an Otyugh that was almost a TPK. The Ronin was the only one left alive because she could stay away from the Otyugh and kite it. she then had to police bodies after stabilizing hem untrained (the half orc had sacred tattoo, arg! but stabilized on his own).
pack them on the horse and haul them off to a temple to get healed.

And battle with the cow hammer boys, she rode the horse, lept over the corral fence and charged down one of them, bashed through the doors into the slaughter room, managed to turn it around in time to chase the guy down who was fleeing and slice him up the back.

Classic.

Her Order is Ronin now. but the Idea is to change from 'Rebel with out a cause' to 'Samurai of a new cause'.

The "Secret" she could be guarding is the dragon fangs that Ms. Queen has found.

Guarded once by the Shoanti. But the Elves are old, and so the legend of this ancient and evil artifact could be known to them. So even though that point in the story has been revealed, the character could know of an ancient evil artifact located somewhere in the city, without a very specific definition as to 'what', yet.

How to transition her to Order of the Seal and when, without screwing up flow of the plot.

Another character, the half orc barbarian believes he is a descendent of ancient shoanti guardians that once protected castle korvosa. (but again doesnt know what, specifically)

Spoiler:
It is true that the Fangs were guarded by a Shoanti Shaman, but an elf received the responsibility to guard another artifact. Remember Mandraivus' group was separated afterwards and split the pieces of Kazavon up to prevent Kazavon's return to life. It could be that a secret order rose up somewhere as a counter to the Brotherhood of Bones, with the mission opposite of them: to keep them hidden and unknown and as far apart from each other as possible. And to ensure the Brotherhood doesn't get their evil, grubby hands on them.

She could be approached for something of the like, and have an interesting connection then to the campaign as a whole. Her mission would then be to complete the campaign then make the fangs 'dissapear' into anonymity again. Fun post-campaign mission possibility.

Well, I think it would fit quite nicely, and make for some interesting roleplay. He may not know about her order, and she may or may not know about his, so they play this game of "Oh yeah, you want to get the Fangs away from the Queen? That sounds like a good idea!" (Stupid Kuthites there's no way I'm letting you get your grubby hands on them). (Stupid adventurer, there's no way I'm letting them get away from me.)

hah unwitting allies could be cool!
