Between Scenarios Question

Sovereign Court 2/5 **

Hello all

I have some questions regarding scenarios/in between scenarios in society play. I really like how each scenarios is linked to a specific spot in the world of Golarion, it really add character to each scenario.

I understand how the scenarios are random based on which sessions the shop/conventions are running, but in game (for a character, story wise), how do characters explain constantly being in a different location's over time? Does the society pay for there travels? Are they dispatched to different locations after each scenario or do they meet up at the grand lounge everytime to start a scenario?

Read the Society guide and still a little confused about the subject . Thoughts?

It's one of those grey areas that really has no answer. As there is 'unlimited' time between adventures, it's really up to the player to decide.

Society characters travel at the speed of plot, so to speak. Explain it however you wish, really. It's one of those things that benefits from being waived in a living campaign.

I just flew in from Tian, and boy are my arms tired.

I feel you explain it however you would like. Be it gettings dispatched constantly or you travel and check in at a different Pathfinder lodge

Ok cool, Just making sure i didn't miss anything.

With that said, how do you interpret this time between adventures, or do u just ignore it?

I largely tend to ignore it. It's one of the downsides of an OP campaign, in which you can play geographically-dispersed adventures in any order. If I had to actively describe it, I'd assume that my characters have a home base in Absalom (or wherever), and just travel out (at Society expense) when needed elsewhere.

It depends on the style of adventures.

I've run Pathfinder Society at conventions, its natural environment, and we assume that the PCs have been "at rest" for a while. It's the same kind of thing with comic books: Let's say that Spider-Man issue 202 wraps up a three-issue story arc in San Francisco. In issue 203, there are establishing shots about what Peter Parker is doing today (painting Aunt May's house, or grading his students' final lab reports) and then he catches wind of the latest call to adventure, and he's off. Unless there's a reason to interlock the storylines, he doesn't start the issue in the San Francisco airport, trying to get his webshooters past the TSA, and then spend three pages on his uneventful plane flight home.

In the same way, PFS Scenario 2-02 leaves your party gasping for breath after a rousing fight, thousands of miles from Absalom. The next scenario doesn't detail your begging your way down rivers and across the Inner Sea. Rather you start with the establishing shot of Venture Captain Drangle Dreng rousing you from your bedchambers in the Grand Lodge.

On the other hand, I've also run a continuing "PFS campaign" on Thursday nights, and for that campaign, where there's much less chaos, I've tried to provide more coherent transitions. You've uncovered a madman's plot in Andoran and your next stop is in Cheliax? Well, there's this dwarf in the border mountains who needs help.

But that kind of "bum-pa-dee-dah" travel doesn't cost resources.

I just remember to age all my characters one year every Gencon :P
