My wife and I are planning on driving the whole way from Monterey, CA. We will be doing this in one go, stopping only to eat, use restrooms, or pick people up.
The gas with just us is going to be $400 both ways. (Figuring 906 mile trip, at 23 mpg, with gas prices being at $4.50, rounding up to the nearst 100.)
So, if we ride share with one person or couple that will be $200 round trip, or two other people splitting the gas costs it will be about $130 each round trip.
We have a Dodge Caravan, so there is plenty of room two other people and all the luggage that will be packed. It would be a little cramped for us, three other people, and all the luggage. The gas mileage is actually a little higher than 23 mpg, but I expect some loss with it loaded down.
We also have a room reserved that we are willing to share with people. It is a single king sized bed (Sorry, we call dibs,) but it would help our budget if we could find a couple people to share it with, preferably the people we are doing the ride sharing with.

What days are you going there/back? If you're not full by the time you get to Portland, I'd love to share a ride for that part of the trip at least! I was planning on driving up Thursday, and back to Portland on Sunday.
We don't have times set yet for Thursday and Monday. I would like to be there for a Thursday night game or the Meet and Eat, but that would mean I would have to leave Monterey about 2am. I haven't really discussed it with my wife yet, but I believe she would be more willing to leave very early morning so she could rest and sleep in the hotel all Thursday evening and night.
So for right now assume I leave Monterey some time around 2am, maybe as early as midnight, so that we can arrive in Redmond some time in the late afternoon to early evening.
We are planning on driving up on Thursday and coming home on Monday.
Ah, bummer. Unfortunately, I have to work early Monday morning, so will have to leave somewhat early on Sunday.
We have a new car. Our van was totaled, and the insurance gave us enough money to put a down payment on a newer vehicle. It took a while to find one that my wife can feel comfortable in, but we finally found one that fit all of our needs.
The good news: The gas mileage is amazing, 33 on the highway, and that means a cheaper road trip.
The bad news: We bought a four door Ford Focus, and can only fit two people in the back seat. That isn't going to be as comfortable for anyone we ride share with, and it means we can only ride share with two other people or one other couple.
We can still do this though! If you are interested, just post here or message me.
