Yet another item creation question.

Rules Questions

In our current campaign I am playing a level 8 Hexcrafter Magus. I went with a dervish build and thing are working very well. I'm getting to the point were I will be able to afford Celestial Armor soon, and I was wondering if the armor can be modded out a little differently and if so the cost difference. I read the following thread and it seems legit http://paizo.com/forums/dmtz3aj4?Can-you-augment-specific-magical-armor-and

My questions are.....

1) I took the fight hex and don't need the built in fly spell. Can I replace it with Haste?

2) Could I put the same template on a breast plate instead for the difference in price between chainmail and a breastplate?

3) After reading the thread I am confused a little. Can you make the item +5 instead of +3, and what would be the difference in price if you can.

I know these are subject to DM's approval, but are they legal in pathfinder (not necessarily pathfinder society)?

No love huh. Anyone?

I tend to look at other magic armour with added abilities - Mithril Plate of Speed for example - and work out the armour plus magic bonus price if it were normal magic armour.

So for questions 1.

That is, what is the difference between +1 Mithril Full plate and the Speed version. That gives a rough idea of how much the added abilities cost. In your case that could give an idea of how much adding haste to Celestial Armour and help working out how much the fly component of the standard version is.

Question 2.

Don't see why not. A breastplate may not be "celestial-like" but come up with a new name for the item.

Question 4.

I'd add the difference between +5 and +3 armour - 16k GP.

Specific weapons and armor are usually a group of abilities, I would say the fly 1/day cannot be removed or replaced, but you could always add "speed" on the armor later (if the gm is ok with customizing specific armor he is ok with enhancing it).

In another thread the price for "celestial" was approximately priced at 13,300 gp for medium armor. In a supplemental ap or something celestial full plate was priced out around 30k gp. Hope that helps.

Edit: Think of Celestial as a special material akin to mithril.. you can't remove the increased max dex to boost base ac... same with fly to haste.

There are no hard and fast "rules" for this sort of thing. If you ask the developers they'll say this is a "homebrew" question. In fact I'm surprised this is still in the "rules" area.

Instead of modifying an existing item, I would work out a new and unique item and use the "similar items" guideline (note, not "rule") to come up with a price.

Flight and haste are not equivalent value in armor and weapons, weapons or armor of speed are usually higher priced than armor with flight. So as a GM I would expect the version with haste to be more expensive than the version with flight.

This way you can create something expressly tailored for your needs and flavor it however you want.

You are essentially creating an entirely new piece of magic armor, I'm not sure why you would use the celestial armor which is a chain shirt that gives you fly to create a breastplate that give you haste. Just use the rules for creating magic items to get to where you want to go.

Mithril Breastplate +3, haste 1/day Max Dex +5, AC penalty 1, Arcane Spell Failure 15%, light armor

MW Mithril Breastplate - 4,350gp
+3 Armor Enhancement - 9,000gp
Haste 1/day command word - 1,800gp

Total Market Value 15,150gp

Done and done.

1/day cost is spell level × caster level × 1800 ÷ (5/charges per day) , not just 1800

Haste is 3rd lvl, and the CL of the item often determines caster level unless otherwise specified.. (haste 1/day vs haste 1/day as a 5th lvl caster)

Assuming minimum its 3x5x1800 for 5 rounds a day, all used in 1 shot, not throughout the day (unlike boots of speed)... 5400 gp

Correct, clearly goofed on my math there. Although its funny that the celestial armor costs less than this, yet fly and haste are the same spell. If you break out the cost of the celestial armor, the math isn't correct for the item based upon the formulas given. Of course you can say that about 50% of the magic items in the book.

So the item should be 18,750gp market value
