Falling into a web spell

Hypothetical situation....

Take a 200 ft. deep pit. Cast a web spell in the exact middle and then make it permanent. Creature falls into the pit. Does the web break its fall? How much if any? Would it obscure the bottom of the pit (i.e. if a creature falls all the way through, would it hinder thing dropping into the pit or the character climbing out?

I realize that some of these questions are fairly easy to answer, but the repercussions of each "simple answer" is not so easy to adjudicate.

And yes, I get .01 every time I use a big word. :)

here's my takle on it based on reading the spell, some DM fiat amd the 3.5 rules.

Does the web break its fall?
easy answer is that yes it does, the harder answer is you have to treat the fall as a strength attempt to break freeby converting the weight into str. Example an wizard weight 260lbs gear and all vs a heavily armed and armored cleric weighing in at over 300 to 350lbs in full plate, heavy sheild, heavy mace plus gear that's allotta mass going through that web spell.

Easy solution the web reduces damage from the fall by 2d6 per 5 ft of web so it's possible the charecter might not fall though or he may barrell through like a runnaway wagon.

In either case you have to restart the falling damage from the bottom of the web spell for the next 80-90 ft drop to the bottom because a 200ft drop is 20d6 and thats terminal damage in mechanical terms. Yes I know in most cases people are going to shrug off 20d6 like it's nothing, heck we had a warforged go swimming as in total immersion in lava takeing 20d6 a round for 4 rounds then climbed out.

Would it obscure the bottom of the pit?

Most definatly, if you read the spell anyone past 5ft of web spell has cover, anyone past 20 ft of web spell has TOTAL cover and can not be targetted for any reason.
Hope this helps.
