Druid Animal Companions and Magic Items

Is it RAW that animal companions are able to wear magical items such as belts, rings and amulets? Are certain items okay and not others? If this is RAW, is it also legal in Pathfinder Society?

Any creature can wear magic items since there is no rule limiting them to certain creature types.

My GM banned me from putting anything on my bear companion apart from an amulet and armour he had proficiency in.

I am all for houserules as long as they are stated up front. If he claims it is the official rule then tell him to show you where it the book that it says creatures X, Y, and Z can't wear magic items. :)

I've usually seen it done that animal companions can wear most magic items, but just slapping on loot you found in a dungeon isn't usually going to work. Usually it requires finding someone to a make a custom piece to fit the animal companion; not that hard to deal with in most cases, but most gear made for humanoids just isn't going to fit non humanoid creatures.

You might want to take a look at the latest issue of Kobold Quarterly magazine - the "Beast Masters" article talks a great deal about animal companions and has a section on how magic items and animal companions work together (there's even a new magic item specifically for animal companions!)

Think this would fly in Pathfinder Society?

I think PFS has less chance to turn you down than a DM at a housegame would. RAW is animal companions can wear magic items that they can feasibly wear, and there is specifically barding for animal armor, without the requirement to get proficiency.

An animal companions best friend is masterwork studded leather armor (including magical varieties). You take the armor check penalty on most rolls when you're not proficient, but the armor check penalty on masterwork studded leather armor is -0.
