Big news on Twitter?

Paizo General Discussion

So I got a Twitter message from Paizo today saying "Big news is about to hit Pazio.com!" Was that PFS announcement it? If so, uh, a bit lackluster IMHO.

Oh. Ok. That is pretty big news. Cool.

And I think it just about confirms a Rise of the Runelords re-release.

With respect, Liz, isn't the WizKids news kind of old for today's tweet? I'm confused, was there something else afoot?

Liz had the wrong link (which may have been my fault). The correct link is here.

Yep, that's better.

And here's hoping about Cibet's Runelords prediction!

Well considering this: "The second set, Rise of the Runelords, will release in June 2012 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the very first Pathfinder Adventure Path."

I doubt Paizo would want to create an entire set of "Pathfinder" minis for a "Dungeons & Dragons 3.5" Adventure Path now would they? :) So I assume sometime between now and then Rise wil be updated to PFRPG.

Doesn't mean much to me since I've already DM'd Rise for my group but I'm happy for those that want it.

An out-of-print adventure path, no less.

I'll be finished with it by then, but I will probably pick it up anyway. It will make a far better "coffee table" book than the 6 loose issues, and it can serve as sort of a memorial for my former PCs to flip through.

I have mentioned it in other places, but since they already redid the Nualia artwork in Inner Sea Magic. This is just extra confirmation for me.

They ARE still all available in PDF form though

Quick question on the minis for the Paizo crew...

Has anyone seen the minis we'll actually be pulling from the boosters?

I've owned a ton of heroclix and mage knight figures and, while they're serviceable minis, the paint jobs never come anywhere near the showroom models they use for the advertising. DDM figures were the same way. I'm just wondering if the bulk Pathfinder Battles stuff will look as nice as what we're seeing in the announcement.

No actual minis have been manufactured yet. We have seen the paint masters for the Beginner Box Heroes, though, and WizKids tells us that they have production processes that will ensure that the production figures are as good or even better than the paint masters. If that bears out, I think these will be some of the very best prepainted plastic fantasy minis ever produced...

how old are the clix you have? around the ultimates, or mutant mayhem set they upped quality almost 100% and when NECCA bought tthem from topps, the quality jumped to bigger hieghts again. I would say they are almost 300% better than when mage knight was in production

I think I stopped collecting around the time the Avengers set came out. I know it was well after Ultimates. I'm not saying anything about the figures was awful. I'm just saying that, in comparison to what you'd see on the promo posters, the paints weren't as nice. I've seen more than a few really nice pieces come out of boosters for both games but, overall, the quality wasn't even close to the masters.

I only stopped playing and collecting the game because it was just getting too expensive and it was getting harder to find tournaments. Sold nearly every heroclix I had for around $900 on ebay.

I'll buy the Pathfinder figures regardless. I just wanted to know if anyone had seen any production models. I really hope they make a few with that transparent "hard light" plastic they used for laser effects and ghosts and stuff like that. Those minis always look really cool on the table.

It doesn't seem to make any sense to me to have the new miniatures line supporting an out of print adventure path for Dungeons and Dragons 3.5.

Surely it would be a better idea to support one of the Pathfinder adventure paths that they are planning to put out in 2012.

I wonder if the minis come with stat cards like the D&D ones did. I suppose the need for stats for a Runelord figure might explain why they updated Thassilonian magic to Pathfinder in Inner Sea Magic. Seems like a lot of effort just for that however.

I guess it's a strong hint that Paizo will announce hadcover collected PF updated ogre leather cover* RotRL at GenCon...

* not really. well, hopefully.

I am a bit shocked as well. At this point we know something is coming for Rise but why not support a newer AP with the mini line? I know, as someone that has already run Rise, I have no interest in the reprint or the minis for it. However releasing minis for an AP I have not run would certainly help sway me to run that one next.

Right now I am on the fence on what to run next but if Paizo announced a mini pack for CC or JR or even SaS I would consider running one of those instead of KM. Why not try to drive the sales of a newer AP instead of a reprint? You figure demand must already be in place for the reprint, otherwise why bother doing it.

Also, statistically speaking, since (I believe) Rise has been the best selling AP for Paizo you have to figure it's also the one most people have already played and as a result would generate the least interest in a line of minis. Conversely something like SS (which most likely is one of the worst sellers) might actually benefit from a line of minis in that groups might want to give it a shot in order to use the minis when they otherwise would not.

I don't think that is feasible. Let's say there is a generic 2012 AP which runs from January to June. To release a miniatures pack to coordinate with that release, the miniatures would already have to be chosen, sculpted and production work in China would have started.

That hypothetical AP has probably been outlined at this point, but the adventures are far from complete. Among other things, the developers would want to use the Advanced Races Guide to promoe that product. The first draft of ARG is probably a couple of months away.

The lead time for miniatures is too great to make this practical. Cardboard tokens are a different story.

I look for a Runelords follow up in 2012 to coincide with the miniatures. Probably update the AP for PF. Kaer Maga (sp?) has popped up in more than one later product, so I would not be surprised by a "super-dungeon" product in that area.

So, what heroes and monsters are in the Heroes and Monsters set?

Apparently Wizkids don't tend to release their lists until much closer to release. All we know is there will be a Troll, Frost Giant, Gnome Fighter, Succubus & Dire Rat, with a huge Black Dragon as a promotional/limited mini seperate to the standard line.
