No one knows who carved the cyclopean faces that perch on the cliffs below the city of Kaer Maga, gazing sternly upon the lands of Varisia below. Some say these visages depict the legendary Runelords of Thassilon, while others claim they represent deities far more ancient than the upstart gods of modern Avistan. Their depths are still unplumbed, their mystery still unsolved, for when you venture inside the mouth of a god, who knows what you might find?

This is a recruiting call from a new pbp DM for five 1st level PCs to take on the module 'The Godsmouth Heresy.' This won't be a first-come, first-served call out, so please take some time to think over your concepts. I'll leave things open for about three days before I choose my five players. If you're interested, please include a one or two paragraph write-up explaining your character idea. It would be best to include your PC's name, race, class, description, and a brief background (ending with the PC having come to Kaer Maga looking for employment, having heard that the Church of Pharasma is looking to hire adventurers for an important assignment). I really enjoy character interaction, so your willingness to write up a strong concept that tells me something about your character's personality will go a long way. This should be a lot of fun, if you're willing to give a new DM a shot.

Some ground rules:

Core rules and APG are available for your characters, with the exception of the Summoner class. No playtest material please. If you'd like to use any options from the PF Companion line of supplements, please check with me first. No third party material will be allowed. No evil alignments please.

Any questions, just give a holler! I look forward to finding some great players!

I look forward to reading along. I am currently running it myself, and it should be interesting to see what someone else with it.

Cool, I'll have to check out your game too.

You can count with me! But... is this a PFS game? I know that module is sanctioned for Society.

No, I wasn't really planning on making this a PFS game, sorry. I hope you'll still consider submitting a character anyway though!

Ok, here we go!

For the GM only:

"Damian is a decrepit old man without much life in his body... and his soul.

20 years ago, Damian lived with his grandson Erbilón. They were inseparable. Damian knew a few magic tricks and the boy loved to see his grandfather to perform it over and over again. The boy learned this tricks at an incredible rate. It was clear that the boy had a talent for magic, and his grandfather was determined to help him develop this talent. His grandson -all that was left in the old man's life- will someday became someone great, and Damian would help him in all he could. He had some savings, all he could save in the second half of his life, and he would make a good use of it. The next year was the 10º birthday of the boy and Damian would pay the loan for the local mage guild.

However, a couple of months before the birthday, a plague of unknown source ravaged the district. Many lives was lost that day in pain and agony. And the cruel destiny didn't take his life -a long and happy life-. The cruel destiny took his grandson's life instead, who barely endured the suffering. Damian was broken since that day.

Damian was crying Erbilon's death for three months. And then, he realized that this suffering will be the guide of the rest of his life. The gods stolen his grandson from his old hands. So, Damian has to make justice on his own way. He has to bring the children back to his side.

So, Damian used his life savings to earn the forbidden knowledge needed to bring back his grandson to life: the necromancy. Now, 20 years later, at the age of almost 80, he began to understand his darkest secrets. He could be playing with his grandson real soon, once again. Damian only wanted to live enough to see his dream come true."

Name: Damian Orthova
Race: human (79 years old).
Class: wizard (necromancer).

What do you think? Am I in? ^_^

Kevin Darlok
Human Fighter (Aldori Swordlord from Inner Sea Primer)

Background:
"Women. If there is a root of all evil, its women. Is it any wonder there is a goddess of madness, monsters, and nightmares and not a god? But how am I to resist? They smile and wink and I would do anything.
That’s why I am here, walking down this road with all that I own on my back, and not sitting in my fathers manor with my dogs by my side in front of a nice warm fire. No, here I am choking on dust, and staring at a horse’s backside. All because of a smile from one pretty girl."

Kevin hails from Mivon in the River Kingdoms. Son a minor noble, his days consisted of lounging, fox hunts, and sword practice. His nights, though, consisted of paying homage to his deity Cayden Cailean, womanizing, and spending his fathers money. After being discovered in a compromising position, a young lady’s betrothed challenged him to a duel of which Kevin was victorious. He believed that the rule that the outcome of a duel shall not be the cause for vendetta would protect him. Little did he know that the challenger was the son of a local crime lord who did not agree with this rule. Seeing that it would be better for his own wellbeing, Kevin decided to try his hand at adventuring. Hearing that the Church of Pharasma is looking to hire adventurers for an important assignment, Kevin makes his way to Kaer Maga.

Can't say yet. :)

Let's give it a couple of days at least, to see who your competition is.

I do appreciate your enthusiasm, though.

Kozaric, welcome and thanks for your character submission! Nice to see material from the Inner Sea Primer get tossed out there.

Thankyou for setting up the game. It looks to be a great adventure.

I've been scouring this board for a few days reading some of the description of the pbp games. I'm new to pathfinder, but an old hand at rpgs. I'd be interested in creating a character for your game if you'd be willing to allow a brand new player to the pathfinder system get involved. I'll check back on this post tomorrow and if interested I'll post a character and background history.

Liberty's Edge

Heya! I would like to put forward this character for your consideration. I have always wanted to run through The Godmouth Heresy.

Basic Information:

Name: Saoirse Palelight
Race: Human
Class: Paladin
Description: A fiery young girl out on her own for the first time, having only recently passed her training to become a Paladin. Has a few deep seeded issues with the undead and Urgathoa stemming from tragic events during her childhood. Looking to start her work as a Paladin in Kaer Maga helping the Church of Pharasma with their problem. Piercing emerald eyes with deep red hair, a strong physique built over years of practice. She holds a bastard sword strapped to her hip and a shield covers a backpack with her few possessions.

Saoirse Palelight Background:
Saoirse Palelight grew up among a crusading band of Iomedae Paladins with her father; raised a devout follower of The Inheritor after her mother and brother were murdered by Urgathoan cultists when they attacked the farmstead that her family owned. Before the cultists could complete whatever dark rites they planned to perform the Paladins stormed into Saoirse’s home and killed several cultists before the rest fled into the darkness of the nearby forest. The Paladins offered to take them to the nearest town but Saoirse’s father insisted on going with these men to avenge his family, having been an old campaigner before serving long enough to earn his retirement. Learning that the cultists were lead by a foul young man who had moved into the region recently and went by the name Lomar, the crusaders moved to apprehend him only to find that Lomar had already abandoned his home and fled towards the Gods know where. From there Saoirse saw much of the world from the back of a wagon, travelling wherever injustice, demonic, or undead activity grew rampant, and her father always searching for the man who took his life from him.

While her father was too old to be inducted into the rights of Paladinhood, he eventually assented to Saoirse learning from the Paladins who they travelled with. Seeing in the Paladins a chance for Saoirse to regain some of her youth, and maybe gain a future that he could no longer give her. Learning the forms and styles of swordsmanship and the honor code of a Paladin first hand, she practiced every day for years as she grew up. Eventually developing into a strong young woman with a rigid sense of justice and fairness, with a belief in the righteousness of her cause, Saoirse was given her final test towards becoming a Paladin. Finally tracking down Lomar, her father and her assaulted his new cabal of worshippers in the dead of night. Despite their best efforts, Saoirse learned the lesson of betrayal that night when they were ambushed inside a cave.

Barely fighting their way out of a deadly trap of tenacious and rabid ghouls, Saoirse lost her father that night when he took a bite to the neck, his life blood spilling out in moments. These ghouls were lead by one of the many Paladins she had grown up with all her life, learning too late that he was turned to ghoulhood himself and had been hiding his condition for many full turns of the moon, plotting with Lomar and other Urgathoan cultists to remove the crusaders Saoirse travelled with.

Barely defeating one of her former brothers in a climactic duel at the entrance of the cave, Saoirse was unable to kill Lomar and returned to the crusader’s camp to find that they were also betrayed, finishing off the last of an undead horde that attacked the camp while she was away. The Captain of the crusaders saw her disheveled and downtrodden appearance, taking in the state of her mind with a single glance.

“Where is your father Initiate Saoirse?”

Silently shaking her head, Saoirse allowed the tears that she had been holding back flow out with embarrassment. Putting his hand out around her shoulder, Captain Miphos spoke words that have stuck with her to this day.

“Then you have truly been tested Initiate. You have lost all vestiges of your past save one, and one day The Inheritor may give you the chance to remove that last piece as well. However, take this lesson to heart, we are all fallible, and the only chance any of us have to uphold our Code is to be ever watchful for the signs of corruption. We all failed in that tonight but to be a Paladin is to persevere and try again. That is what you will do as well… Sister. Now, help me with the wounded, we have much to do.”

Giving Saoirse a gentle smile, he moved off, and though Saoirse had much more to learn about being a Paladin, she was ready to take those steps on her own. This is why she decided to leave the crusader company that had raised her for so long. The memory of her father was too fresh for her to remain and so she took up an offer from the Church of Pharasma to take care of an important assignment in Kaer Maga.

Sorry for the length, but the ideas started to flow and I couldn't put my cursor down. :)

Absolutely, you should write up a background and character idea for the game! Everyone has to start somewhere after all. Your inexperience is not a barrier at all, as far as I'm concerned.

What do you think? Am I in? ^_^

Well well well, it would be amusing if you will be, 'cause I'm in for the ride as well (that is, if I get picked :))

Prodigal Sun - this is my character. It's not divided into character presntation/character bakground, but hopefully the tone of the text is enough to get the hang of the concept.

Spoiler:

Noriss Lowborn's my name. oftentimes when I reveal this to people they want to know if it was given to me when I exited (kicking and screaming, according to the tales I heard) from my mother's womb.
And yes, I'm a Lowborn by virtue of blood. Descendent of the brave Augustine Lowborn, hero of Sunwall. My ancestor was a shining example of humanity's resilience, and he dedicated his life to his people, slaying the bestial manace from the wastelands with every bit of resources he had.

So what?

My parents – wealthy merchants who started their life as adventurers, did their fortune looting Orcish outposts and eventually settled down, opened a business trading weapons, and parented an only child – yes, you guessed who.

They wanted another warrior, another proud heir to their lineage. Educating me according to that vision was one of the only fights they've ever lost. And what a defeat it was! Instead of a knight in shining armor they got a low life thief.

Or so they'll say. I certainly do not view myself as such. Believe it or not, I like to think I'm a keeper of order. Every time I organize one of those hilarious bank robberies and only empty half of the safes, I cause the halfwits who run it realize the holes in their security – and they tighten it. Every time I waylay a wagon, I take care to do so where the road is most under guarded and is in need of repairs and reinforcements. Because you see, law and order cannot exist without some mischief to make them necessary. Thusly it is that I pry to Abadar, the wisest god of them all, before each and every one of my endeavors, and I never forget to thank him for every job that didn't go astray.

It was during an ambush I set deep in a patch of woodlands not far from Sandpoint that I encountered Jeresine. She was beautiful, impressive, and far more cunning than the sort I am used to deal with. She managed to not only avoid getting robbed, but get the better of me as well. Instead of stabbing me or handing me over to local authorities she invited me to join her for the day. We rode together, jibber jabbering about all sorts of nonsense. In that night by the campfire she presented me with an intriguing concept: in order to farther my understanding of what order is, I should try serving a lawful deity other then Abadar. After doing this I will gain perspective, revaluate things. Have a better understanding of what difference there is between order and law.

Well she certainly had me thinking, and by that morning I reached a decision: I shall spend a year of my life serving Pharasma, a goddess of order who is as radically different as I can imagine from my own, in Kaer Maga, a place that is nothing short of alien to me. I set foot to the City Of Strangers, intending to seek better understanding of what guides my life.

OK, so the character is a rouge, specializing as a long ranged (probably long bows) skill monkey. If the adventure will go to a high enough level he'll probably grab a level or two as a cleric, but only starting level 3 or 4. He is a human, 27 years old. He probably has a slightly higher evaluation of himself than is strictly justified, and his cocky "better than you" attitude can sometimes upset people. He is under no circumstances above cooperation and diplomacy though – as a matter of fact he avoids direct violence whenever it is plausibly achievable to do so. In an adventuring group he'll not try to assert leadership, but will be offended if his opinion and advice on a matter will be disregarded. During stressful situations such as combat Lowborn never shays away from opportunities to prove himself and from playing dirty.

Eh! Lord Snow! Good to see you around here! ^_^

Spoiler:
Lord Thorin was sent by Bishop Keppia d'Bear to deliver a package from Korvosa to the chapel of Pharasma in Kaer Maga, The Mercenary Company known as "The Golden Dawn", led by Lord Thorin made it's way to just outside Janderhoff before being waylaid by a large group of highwaymen. Lord Thorin was defeated in battle and assumed dead. When he awoke, the package was missing, and around him lay the bodies of the people he had sworn to protect, every one of them cold and lifeless. Lord Thorin, now without a mount, and dressed in rags without sword or shield, spent a few days in Janderhoff, asking questions about his attackers and finding no answers. He worked his way up the western banks of the Yondadkari river, questioning farmers and ferrymen, and doing odd jobs for a few coin before nearly drinking himself to death in Sirathu. A Cavalier representing the Order of the Dragon, who has lost his station, his mercenary company, and his pride; Lord Thorin continues to search for those responsible for the deaths of his friends. Nearly a year later, he has now made his way to Kaer Maga, to redeem himself in the eyes of the Temple of Pharasma, for losing their delivery. Lord Thorin is now a very downtrodden man, who has taken to strong drink whenever possible to dull the pain and the memories of the lives he lost that fateful night. What future lies in Kaer Maga for our hero? Only time will tell...

it took me a little while to reference places and people in a campaign world I'm pretty unfamiliar with. If something doesn't fit or make sense, feel free to change it to make it fit the story a bit better. I would like to start out playing a Cavalier without weapons or armor. I know it's weird, but I've always like playing characters with some sort of handicap. I think it would be a blast to play a 40 year old alcoholic cavalier with nothing but the shirt on his back and enough money to keep him drunk through the week. Seeing a character develop like that through the course of an adventure is what great stories are made of.

This is Kozaric from above.
I did quick stats and fleshed out this character at work. He still needs some fine tuning.

Thank you for the consideration.

Good stuff, everyone! Keep it coming. :)

Good luck with your game, Prodigal! Like sunshadow, I too am running this same module via an email game with some old and new friends/players. I'll lurk along and see how it goes.

Sounds like a Good one! So here we go!

Name: Dr. Catila Eyesquint
Race: Halfing
Class: Bard(Detective)

Description & Background:
Warning, a bit wordy, for I too suffer from the 'keyboard runs' once an idea strikes ; )

Spoiler:

There's just no two ways about it, Dr. Catila Eyesquint has...'Presence'. Though she takes up hardly any space at all, when Catila enters a room, everyone knows it. This feisty, fiery, pint sized detective doesn't miss a tick. Within two heartbeats of entering a bar, for example, she can tell you who is all in there, what they do, where they're from and very likely what they had for breakfast. Everything is a mystery to the quick minded detective and if she has one purpose in life (and, let's face it, she pretty much only has one purpose in life), it is to solve mysteries.

Known as Squint or Squinty to her close friends and family, Dr. Eyesquint to her acquaintances and 'damn that woman' or something similar to her enemies or those she has put behind bars the young halfling has already begun building a reputation far beyond her young years.

Born to a university professor and rather famous tale-spinner, Catila was born with perfect pitch and has been musically inclined all of her life. She was also something of a child prodigy and wrote her first thesis at the tender age of 13. Gaining her doctorate in the relatively new art of 'forensic science' at the unheard of tender age of 17, and with a masters in biology Squinty is a mini engine of activity and cogitation. Although begged by her alma mater to remain at school to pass on her unique skills to others, a classroom was never the place for Dr Squint. For her the world at large was one big mystery and she was intent on solving it all.

Although she is what most would consider to be quite an attractive young halfling, and possessed of a generally happy demeanour, Catila has little to no care or concern whatsoever for her appearance. Although certainly not slovenly, as neatness and detail are very important to her, she is well known for wearing clashing colours and mismatched outfits. Basically she just puts on whatever first comes to hand. Her big bright green eyes never stop moving, as she is always looking everywhere, at everything. And, as well, she an interesting (and sometimes annoying to others) habit of humming, especially when she is thinking hard (which is almost all the time). This habit carries on into her speech and sometimes she actually sings her words, without seeming to realize it. Although she never really took the time to master an instrument she can play a lute passably. Her voice though has been said to 'outmatch the songbirds themselves' and, should she ever so choose, a brilliant career as a singing minstrel or court performer would surely await her. However the small sleuth has little interest in such things and so only uses her voice to aid in her magic making, which in turn is only used to aid in her sleuthing.

Having just recently finally escaped the clutches of those who urged her to stay behind and teach, Catila has, for the past few months, travelled mostly randomly throughout the Varasian frontier, falling into one crazy adventure after another. And so it was quite randomly (or so it seemed, anyway) that the good Dr. found herself in Kaer Maga, 'city of thieves'. Hearing the call for aid put out by the Pharasian clerics, Catila's interest is instantly piqued, for she is sure there is more going on than meets the eye (as, in her experience, there almost always is). Heading for the temple of Pharasma post haste, it is a supremely confidant (but never arrogant) young woman who presents herself at the temple doors with the words
"Dr. Catila Eyesquint at your service! And I am here to solve your dilemma!"

Hope ya like it! ; )

Thanks, hedgeknight!

Lord Thorin,

Spoiler:
I really like your concept, but it might be impractical for a couple of reasons...I wanted to give you a heads up. First, the game will be largely a dungeon crawl. This might mean a cavalier is not the best class choice, depending on how much you wanted him to depend on a mount? Second, if you want to go with this concept (and it could work just as well for a paladin or really any other martial character class), I would at least have him start with a basic weapon and armor. The mod pretty much dumps the PCs into the dungeon from the start, without much opportunity to head out and shop. I don't want to metagame too much, but I thought I'd at least give you a head's up. Feel free to make some modifications to your concept, if you'd like.

Hey all,

There are sure some good ideas percolating forth from your fertile imaginations, here! Nice.

It strikes me that I should let you know that this module is pretty much a straight dungeon crawl, however, just so you can make sure you submit a character concept that will be suitable for this type of game.

Carry on! I'm eager for more. It would definitely be great to see some more casters submitted, especially divine casters!

I would like to submit a character for this game.

Iron Will; Channel Smite.

Courageous: Your childhood was brutal, yet you persevered primarily through force of will and the hope that no matter how hard things might get, as long as you kept a level head you’d make it through. You gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against fear effects.

Indomitable Faith: You were born in a region where your faith was not popular, yet you never abandoned it. Your constant struggle to maintain your own faith has bolstered your drive; you gain a +1 trait bonus on Will saves as a result.

Spells Memorized:

0-level (DC 13) Stabilize, Guidance, Light; 1st-level (DC 14) Bless, Shield of Faith, Magic Weapon (D)
* - Already cast

Class Abilities:

Aura (Ex): A cleric of a chaotic, evil, good, or lawful deity
has a particularly powerful aura corresponding to the
deity’s alignment (see the detect evil spell for details).

Spontaneous Casting: A good cleric (or a neutral cleric of a good deity) can channel stored spell energy into healing spells that she did not prepare ahead of time. The cleric can “lose” any prepared spell that is not an orison or domain spell in order to cast any cure spell of the same spell level or lower (a cure spell is any spell with “cure” in its name).

Orisons: Clerics can prepare a number of orisons, or 0-level spells, each day, as noted on Table 3–5 under “Spells per Day.” These spells are cast like any other spell, but they are not expended when cast and may be used again.

Restricted Spells: A cleric can’t cast spells of an alignment opposed to her own or her deity’s (if she has one). Spells associated with particular alignments are indicated by the chaotic, evil, good, and lawful descriptors in their spell descriptions.

Channel Energy A good cleric (or one who worships a good deity) channels positive energy and can choose to deal damage to undead creatures or to heal living creatures. Channeling energy causes a burst that affects all creatures of one type (either undead or living) in a 30-foot radius centered on the cleric. The amount of damage dealt or healed is equal to 1d6 points of damage plus 1d6 points of damage for every two cleric levels beyond 1st (2d6 at 3rd, 3d6 at 5th, and so on). Creatures that take damage from channeled energy receive a Will save to halve the damage. The DC of this save is equal to 10 + 1/2 the cleric’s level + the cleric’s Charisma modifier. Creatures healed by channeled energy cannot exceed their maximum hit point total—all excess healing is lost. A cleric may channel energy a number of times per day equal to 3 + her Charisma modifier. This is a standard action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity. A cleric can choose whether or not to include herself in this effect. A cleric must be able to present her holy symbol to use this ability.

2 max uses/day, 0 used.

Domains:

- Law:
Granted Power: Touch of Law (Sp): You can touch a willing creature as a standard action, infusing it with the power of divine order and allowing it to treat all attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws for 1 round as if the natural d20 roll resulted in an 11. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

- War:
Granted Power: Battle Rage (Sp): You can touch a creature as a standard action to give it a bonus on melee damage rolls equal to 1/2 your cleric level for 1 round (minimum +1). You can do so a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

Equipment:
(50 lbs total, Light load)
Scale Mail
Lt Sheel Shield
Longsword
Heavy Crossbow w/10 bolts
Silver Holy Symbol
Vial Holy Water
2 Sunrods
Backpack
Bedroll
4 days rations
Waterskin
16 gp

Background:

Cole grew up on one of the many outlying farms from the plains/grasslands to the southeast. His childhood was pretty typical, except for the accident he had involving a runaway horse, a sharp hoof and bad timing.

When he was lying down on the ground, his lifeblood oozing out of him, he was waiting to die. He was told later he went into a coma, but one of the local priests of Iomedae was there to bring him back to living.

Since that point in time he knew he had a mission to see the clergy in all corners of the Kingdom. Surely this is a good thing for all citizens, to keep other young children from suffering and dying as he almost did.

Now, newly graduated from the trials of the priesthood, Cole is ready to make his mark on the world...and never mind those who disagree with him. They will learn better...

Now he is starting to have doubts about what his priesthood has become. Maybe it was the way his childhood accident was explained to him, an act of his god, but something doesn't seem right in his heart about that. Also to continuing persecutions against those who choose not to follow his churches way. True, the church has brought order, but sometimes at the expense of humanity.

Finally, his brother has been a vexing issue which his faith seems to have no answer for. He was delivering some sweets to a local lord. As Raff tried to talk his gang out of robbing his brother they turned on him, allowing Cole to make his escape. How he wanted to stay and fight those bastards! But Raff told him it would lead to both of their deaths.

Which is why when he heard Raff, his brother was involved with some gangs and thugs, and accused of performing criminal acts, knew he could not let his brother suffer for his crimes.

But what about his faith in his god, was his life a lie?

His BG was written for a homebrew, now defunct, so I can tweak it to fit into Golarion.

Thanks for your consideration.

So what if I have him in some kind of cheap leather armor, and using a homemade club? I figured I could probably equip him along the way. I'm not really caring about the mounted bonuses. I'm not big on paladins at all.

Honestly, I'm just itching to get into a game period, so If you'd like I can scrap him and make up a caster? I'll do whatever it takes just to wet my appetite to play at this point. you can contact me directly if you have any ideas as to what class or background would be most helpful to you in rounding out the party for this adventure. my email address is: sickboy667 at hotmail.com

I realize since I'm new here and have a low post count I'm going to have a difficult time persuading someone to give me a chance and let me into their game. Most of the other pbp games that are listed that are looking for players have some aspect of them that I'm not interested in. Your willingness to put aside the fact that I've never played pathfinder before is refreshing. I have been trying to get into a forum game over at storycrafter.com for the last few months, and it would seem that there isn't a whole lot going on over there. One of the people that I work with plays Pathfinder and he is the one who directed me over here to try and find a game I can get into.

Shoot me an email if you have something in mind that would get me in and better round out the group. Thanks for your consideration. :)

I am new to Pathfinder - but not PbP roleplay. I must say I like what I see. I would love to play in a campaign. I recently tried to make a character for desert campaign....I really want to play him...so I contrived a story for him to come to Kaer Maga. I hope you like it.

Brankh - Cleric of Sarenrae:

A lanky, tall, young half-orc with a face scarred hideously from burns sustained in early childhood. His flowing garments and head-dress are typical of desert dwellers from Katapesh. Simple, gold-hued embroidery and pale fabrics reflect warmly in the light of the rising sun. Despite his frightful scars, Brankh's pale eyes and are expressive and can show a kind concern when gazing good-hearted or suffering folk. His vocal range can resonate with deep bombast or trumpet at shrill heights.

Strapped to his back is a huge scimitar (Falchion).

Brangk spent his early childhood as a pauper in the filthiest slums of Katapesh. At the age of four he risked his life to rescue a young woman from a great fire which was sweeping through a tenement. Freeing the girl he himself became trapped when the structure collapsed. He was later found in the smouldering ruins - alive by the grace of the Dawnflower's Healing Light. Taken in by the Priests of the Order, he spent the rest of his childhood in the Temple of the Sun - where the ministrations of the healers became for him an education in the healing arts and in the rites of the faithful. But Brangk was a tempestuous boy - undisciplined, big in ego and bold in speech. Not knowing what to do with the young orcish firebrand, the church assigned him to the service of Nehruha - an old surgeon who travelled the world and made a living with his arts. Nehruha took the boy with him as his bodyguard on the long journey to Kaer Maga - seeking ancient knowledge at the Temple of Pharasma.

Just a few hours after their arrival in the city - Nehruha passed away from a sudden stroke - it was also unexpected, notwithstanding his old age. Brangk is now left to continue the man's legacy. But first he needs to find employment.

I have posted the Character. His profile is here to see.

Here is my bid. Please let me know what you think.

Kyras Acaman Half-Elf Ranger:
At about average height Kyras' appearance is typical of outdoorsman. Lean with dark hair and tanned skin he seems unremarkable until one sees the bright emerald eyes and slightly elven shaped ears. With his cloak thrown back, over one shoulder the worn hilt of a hand and a half sword can be seen while a longbow is slung over the other and a quiver, dagger, and handaxe are at his belt. Unfortunately the haunted look in his eyes and his tendency to idly finger his weapons while looking at someone tends to turn off someone from casual conversation.

Born to two retired adventurers Kyras learned early on how to handle the bow, sword, and the wild. However he did not learn how to deal with the sudden deaths of his parents. Lyrim had come running babbling about some 'things' attacking the woodsmen at the hunting lodge north of them in the hills. His parents followed Lyrim at a run to try and render what assistance the could and told Kyras to mind the house until they returned. Ten minutes later he was out the door bow in hand following after them.

As he neared the lodge, he heard movement in the undergrowth off to his left. When he stopped to determine what it was, two figures he recognized as locals from the village stepped out and were approaching. He called out to them asking if they knew what was going on. Only at closer look they looked like they had been gnawed on yet they were up and walking around. As they closed their smell hit him reminding him an animal corpse he had come across after the thaw one spring. The smell of sickly sweet decay. Just as the realization hit him of what they might be he realized they were almost on top of him and reaching desperately for him. He ducked under their arms and deeper into the woods. To his horror he emptied half his quiver into them before they stopped moving.

Upon entering the clearing he found it littered with corpses but no sign of his parents or Lyrim beyond that of his father's arrow fletchings in some of the bodies. He worked his way to the lodge picking up an axe along the way the owner would no longer need seeing as his arrows were not quite as effective as he would hope. Stepping through the door was like stepping into a slaughter house. Bodies laying everywhere, blood pooling on the floor and the stench overwhelming him.

After emptying his stomach he was able to better take in his surroundings. His father's sword impaling a body to the wall next to the door. His mother's quarterstaff broken in three pieces in the center of the room. Suddenly he heard a crunching sound in the corner of the room. Looking up he saw one of the creatures chewing on something. As anger and rage filled him he wrenched his father's sword and charged towards the monster.

Jerking awake, he panicked for a moment wondering where he was. The farmer that had offered him a ride was shaking his shoulder. They had apparently arrived at Kaer Maga. He gathered up his belongings, thanked the farmer, and set off to find where the Church of Pharasma was hiring these adventurers. Anything he could do to distract him from what happened would help. Hopefully this distance from it will as well.

Okay, everyone, I think we've given this long enough. It's time to close the recruiting window, and I've got some thinking to do. I'll have more info tonight after work as to who is in the game.

Thanks to all of you for your time and interest!

I built the character based on 20 point build, 2 traits and average starting gold for a cleric. Of course it can all be modified to fit the needs of the campaign....but it should give you a picture of what I would like him to be...a zealous young orcish holy-man who inspires his allies to be heroes and strikes terror in his foes!

Just click on his profile to see all the details.

Well blast it all...

I saw this thread last night before bed and came up with an idea for a Shaonti tribesman of the Skoan-Quah who ventures to Kaer Maga on a vision quest while I was at work today. Unfortunately for me, by the time I get here to post the idea you aren't taking any more submissions.

Skoan-Quah: The small and mysterious Clan of the Skull
travels widely through the Cinderlands and the northern plateau,
keeping record of the tribes that have passed and honoring the
dead in all things.

They area Shaonti tribe that follow, loosely, Pharasma.

Apologies, Tempestorm, maybe next time. :)

All, I've had a day from hell, and I need to get some sleep. Thoughts are still percolating in my head as to who to take for the game. Sorry for the delay, expect the announcement tomorrow.

No worries bro, take your time. We need our DM's well rested after all don't cha know! ; )

waiting with baited breath...

Hungry for adventure!

I made a few adjustments to Brankh's character background and build. Some corrections, etc.. nothing that changes the kind of character he would be.

Still with us PS?

Yes, but some things have come up the last couple of days which look like major drains on my time. I'm second-guessing now whether this is the right time to take on a commitment like running a pbp. Hang in there another day or so, and I'll let you all know for sure one way or the other.

Sorry guys. :(

No need to hurry at this point, PS. You don't want to burn out before you even start, eh? Perhaps we can relax the posting expectations a bit so you can balance things out with with real life. We can do it.
I'll bide my time, make some characters and keep checking this thread. Good luck!

There are some very good character builds here; I hate to see them put on the "back burner" for some other game. Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, I currently run Godsmouth Heresy in an email game. And it is a lot of fun for me as the DM; I think my players are having fun too - they should be, they are kicking the crap out of my NPC's! :)

I haven't ran a PbP in a few years - my last campaign was on another website called Online Role-playing. If you scroll down the forums page you'll find my name and my campaign.

Having put myself out there, if Prodigal Son is unable to carry forward with this game...and...since I'm already familiar with the module and setting...and there are some very good character builds...oh, I said that already didn't I? Er..well...I'd have to figure out a way to do maps and such...dice roller is already in place...rambling aren't I?

Everyone, as you've likely already surmised by how quiet I've been, I fear I will not be able to proceed as DM of this game at present. Rather than try to bite off more than I can chew (as I suspect happens to so many), I'll just bow out before going any further.

That said, hedgeknight is correct. There are some really nice character ideas here. It would be a shame to let it all be for naught, if there is another willing DM to step in. So, hedgeknight, if you would like to step in and take over things, you have my blessing.

Thanks for your interest, everyone, and good gaming to you all.

Another thing I would like to add is there are a LOT of great DM's on these boards that might want to take on this game too. As players, you might want to advertise your group on the boards. Just my 2 cents.

I wish to avoid playing more than one game at a time. And I am slowly putting together a homebrew to run some day down the road. I just committed myself to playing a character in AJ's Dad's Runelord campaign.

However.

I would make an exception for my cleric. I am pretty excited about him. I feel most comfortable playing clerics...and I really think I put some soul into that half-orc.

Let us know if you're starting something here.
I am looking over the profiles and thinking of a way we can entice a DM to take us on if you don't....but I took a quick look at your campaign....I`m game if you are!

I could probably run another group through the place if you need a dm, as I already have most of the maps. Give me a day or so to look over the character submissions and decide if I feel up to the challenge of running two games of the same module at once.

Tempestorm, what class did you have in mind for your shoanti?

I never put him on paper since it looked like the game was full. He was either going to be a Ranger or Barbarian, truthfully I hadn't decided between the two.

I don't think I am going to be able to run this one until I finish the group already playing due to the way I have my maps setup being problematic if both groups stumble into the same room at the same time. Hopefully you can find someone to run it for you; it's a fun mod.

Any of you who submitted characters still around? I've read and re-read through the character submissions and am wondering if some of you might have moved on to other games with your characters.

Edit: Geez, how many times can I use the word "character" in a paragraph?

I am actualy trying to get into two different ones right now. Doesn't look like this one is going to go anywhere.
